The Road to Nowhere
#TheRoadtoNowhere is a polish independent feature film. Produced by @GreenMountainPictures
For some, end of the world starts sooner than others...
πContrast is a powerful tool that the film maker can use, whether it's contrast in the image, in the audio loudness or contrast between the characters, it often creates a strong emotion in the audience. Contrast is one of the best tools to engage a viewer and create meaning within a single frame or scene. π₯π For example a sad scene shoot in a beautiful, dreamy scenery can have much bigger impact, than the same scene placed in bleak depressing landscape. π
Almost every day of production was documented by our behind the scenes crew. π₯β But little did we know there is even behind the scenes of behind the scenes of behind the scenes footage as you can see. π
Do You have any favourite "making of" materials? For us it's whole BTS of LoTR trilogy.
Dear future viewers of "The Road to Nowhere", the Christmas is around the corner. We hope that You enjoy our Christmas tree. π Share how Your decorations look like! βοΈβοΈ
πChristmas is quickly approaching and believe it or not, there is a Christmas theme in "The Road to Nowhere." π In one of the scenes, a character will be sporting a beard and a Santa Claus hat, although it's unrecommended to expect any gifts from him. π€
πAt the same time, this character appears in a scene that was filmed on a very climatic location - an old, abandoned concrete bridge. π₯π
Recently our team was involved in recording an original song for the film. π₯π€πΈ Song titled "Trapped" was written to reflect the story shown in the film and relate to the protagonist states of mind and soul. The track was recorded in our new studio with talented Aleksandra SieroΕ βοΈ In addition to the song, a simple music video was recorded. It will be released as a teaser for the movie. We hope that You will enjoy the end result. π₯
πThe Road to Nowhere will feature a number of artificially created landscapes that will help bring the vision of a destroyed and abandoned world to the screen. In many cases, these landscapes will be combined with real footage created by the film crew. π₯π
πIn the video below, you can see an example of 3D camera tracking process that will allow to create digital set extensions to enhance the recorded drone shot. The postproduction team plans to test a novel tool in the VFX industry in order to accelerate the works. Namely Unreal Engine 5. π₯πͺ
In every post-apocalyptic story, there is always a beautiful world at the beginning. π It is the world in which most of us live now. It is the only world we know, and we can lose it too. Regardless of whether the fate of the world is in our hands, we should appreciate what we have and not take it for granted. π
πWhen creating a film that is set in such distinctive reality as a post-apocalyptic wasteland, one of the most important elements of the entire production is to create believable traces of the history of this world and the history of the characters living in it. π
πIn order for the viewer to believe in the presented story, the costumes and make-up of the characters must be very elaborate and carefully thought out. If the characters of the film look as if they live in this world, other elements such as set design and special effects become more believable.
πThis is especially true in the case of "The Road to Nowhere" because the film's story focuses heavily on the main characters. π
On the road to nowhere, you can always count on the reliable Defender. πͺ
Creating a film set in a post-apocalyptic world often involves shooting in remote locations that are difficult to access. π« Mud, roadless areas, potholes, debris β all of these can cause serious logistical problems for production. π€ That is why an off-road car is an invaluable asset to have. The car that You see in the picture has helped us immensely to traverse the overgrown forest roads of Chernobyl Exclusion Zone β’ and many other locations. π

πThe world of "The Road to Nowhere" was destroyed in the 1970s because of the war that began in the East between the two largest communist states. The conflit, because of its scale, spread around the world and at its climax led to a desperate nuclear war. β’οΈ Areas that were not affected by nuclear annihilation were swallowed up by anarchy. Whether nature will recover from such a blow remains to be seen. The remnants of humanity are fighting for the last scraps of food and resources. β οΈ It is not known whether civilization has survived anywhere in the world, but no one hopes for it...
πIn such setting, the choice of locations, which create most of the film's cllimate and style, is very important. In pre-production, we tried to choose the right locations for each scene. Many of these locations will also be enhanced with the use of CG effects. However, a properly prepared real location that allows for a sense of destruction, decay and stagnation is irreplaceable. π
In the film we tried to show the hopelessness of the destroyed world, the makeup was a very important part of this, because it allowed us to show characters who are destroyed, tired. This allows viewers to immediately subconsciously understand that everyone has had to suffer a long journey in this world.

Unique props are a key element of any film! They are what give depth and atmosphere to the whole story. π₯β¨ Here you can see a specially made shopping cart for those traveling through the post-apocalyptic world. It includes a lot of details that represent a broader story.
You can't stop this force anymore! BRDM-2 coming in hot. π₯
The camera must always be ready, because you never know when an opportunity will arise. π₯π₯ While filming one of the scenes, we encountered a herd of running deer. π¦

Summer's gone, our hearts grow cold,
As winter creeps in, dark and bold,
We long for days of sun and light,
But now we face the longest night.
We're very excited that we managed to feature some heavy vehicles on the film set! πππ Our team has been hard at work to ensure that these vehicles bring an authentic and thrilling experience to the big screen. π½π
The post-apocalypse doesn't always have to be grim. π Photo from the very last day of shooting.
Sometimes a situation on a film set can get out of control and the FBI has to come. π And maybe it's about crop circles? π½
On to Berlin! βπ
"Jeep Willys" is a classic American car that was used extensively during war world II and beyond. It's a timeless vehicle that we decided to include in one of the scenes of the film. It's one of these cars that could be still going strong even after the end of the world. πͺ
Did You know that The Road to Nowhere will have miniatures? π₯π’ Come behind-the-scenes to see one of the miniatures used in the film. π
Miniatures have been a great tool for creating amazing new locations in film for many years now. They allow the creation of entire buildings, cities and landscapes. π This particular miniature was incorporated into the landscape of the abandoned city of Pripyat near Chernobyl. The main advantage of this miniature is that it allows for very realistic lighting. π¬ Golec Jan

Creating a movie is the art of waiting. β± Almost the entire film was lit using natural light. π½π‘ All scenery was prepared with a consideration of providing adequate lighting in scenes without the need for lamp lighting. πͺ The use of many different light sources such as campfires, lanterns, candles, and flares made it possible to achieve a very grounded and raw atmosphere, but at the same time visually aesthetically pleasing. :)

We have been shooting night scenes with natural light and recreating a storm for the film. π½β Our crew is working hard to capture the raw and gritty atmosphere of a world torn apart. It was a challenging shoot, but the results are already breathtaking. πͺπ
We kindly invite you to like the page of Green Mountain Pictures studio, which is directly responsible for the creation of the film. π₯πππ₯
The studio creates various feature films and documentaries, as well as smaller productions, so everyone should find something that suits their taste. π
Actors can have a hard time with makeup because they may have to wear heavy, uncomfortable or intricate makeup for hours, which can limit their movement and expression. π½π¬ This can require spending hours in a makeup chair before shooting, and the makeup itself can be uncomfortable or even painful. But not our actors, they just need to get their teeth dirty. π
Lamp Man is the ultimate superhero, fighting crime by night and working on film sets by day. πͺβ Armed with his trusty lamp, he brings light to even the darkest corners of the city. π‘π½π
We believe that on every film set there should be such a "lamp man" π
