Absolutely adored this beautiful old city.
One of the most famous of the “white villages” dotting the countryside when Andulusia was occupied by the Moors.
Not only did the white color reflect the sunlight to keep things cooler, it was also made of limestone which is alkaline, that kills bacteria and kept the people free from many of the diseases plaguing other parts of Europe. Plus, it distinguished them as Muslim villages when the Christians started migrating their way. Check out the magnificent bridge built over that gorge! A fortified city for a long time, needless to say. They also have one of the most complete and preserved Arab bath houses in existence. Just fascinating.
Once the Christians took over, it became known for bullfighting and Sherry production.
So much history and culture, yet so laid back and peaceful. I could have spent more time communing here.

Cadiz, Spain. The oldest continuously inhabited settlement in the world! Settled by the Phoenicians in 1100 bc. Operated as one of the most important seaports in the world for centuries, connecting Europe to Africa, Asia and the New World.
