A new lap record has been set at Germany’s Hockenheim circuit by the McMurtry Speirling, an electric vehicle, which outpaced the Mercedes-AMG One by 14.1 seconds. The Speirling completed the Grand Prix course in 1 minute and 24.4 seconds, surpassing the AMG One’s time of 1 minute and 38.5 seconds. Although the Speirling is a track-only car, its performance is notable as it used just 75% of its power. The lap was driven by former F1 driver Max Chilton. The vehicle, set for limited production in 2025, will cost over $1 million.

Gravity Charging unveiled a new design for EV charging stations, called Distributed Access Energy Points (DEAPs), which resemble trees. These tall structures have charge cables that hang down from swivel arms, much like those at self-service car washes. The design prevents tripping hazards by lifting the cable back up after use. Capable of delivering 200-kw or 500-kw power, DEAPs can add up to 200 miles of range in just 5 to 13 minutes without needing utility upgrades. Gravity aims to create a vast urban fast-charging network, potentially outpacing Tesla's Supercharger network in both coverage and power.
