~ Envision Festival ~

Somatics - Workshops - Embodiment

So much to dive into in such a short amount of time! It really feels like each day at Enliven is an entire weekend on its own.

So many passionate facilitators, entertainers, and speakers, sharing their lifes work, crafts, and culture. So many different avenues to learn about the energies within you and around you. Your spirit, your chi, and your alchemy to help achieve harmony.

Find your voice, find your rhythm, find your power. It's all within us. Sometimes, we just need to activate that spark within ourselves to spotlight our unique gifts to the world.

This type of atmosphere provides so many different ways to harness your light, and share it. We all have different gifts, and we all have different ways in which to inspire them.

Learn from each other, and support each other. Integrate and facilitate!

Dance is one of the ultimate forms of expression. Its where you can explore the freedom of your soul and movement of your body. Creatively connecting with one another, as you vibe together and just feel each other, creating a space of pure joy, and collectively transforming the container in which you're moving in. Its a place where your practices come into play, be it the mobility of your body or the way in which you listen to your spirit.

There are so many different ways that we communicate with eachother other than speach. So many micro transactions with everything around us at any given time, if we are concious to them to or not. Through dance and intentially connecting in this way, we can tap into conversations with each other and learn and understand each other by feel. Can you pick up on your partners intentions or desires? Are they playful, intimate or just want to release and express themselves? Can you sense their consent and their boundaries, and play within the perimeters?

Some of my favorite conversations were with people I never spoke to in the moment at all, and I left feeling like I knew more about them than many other kinds of settings could have provided.

There's somethin' special about an intimate festival that's primary theme is connection. It's like waking up in a mystical forest playground where everyone is your best friend and alive and strivin to help you ascend. Ridin the waves of the high vibrations through the days and recharging and nourishing our souls in the best kinds of ways.

Photography and Art are inspiring because they can provide us with imaginative links to parts of ourselves that might otherwise be inaccessible.

I am inspired by the most beautiful places on our planet, nature, the snow-capped mountains, the flowers that spring from the grass, the mighty waterfalls that teach us about freedom, the sky that surrounds us, and the cities that are the work of our hands.

Sea turtles are a symbol of going with the flow. They prefer to live their life with ease, as they will almost never swim against the current. Instead, they choose to be carried away, but still being mindful of their surroundings and potential threats in their habitat.

~ Vancity Time Slice ~

I really like the concept of putting together an image that represents a span of time. This image being 2 hours long and each slice shows 2 minutes of time that has passed for a total of 60 (60x2=2hours). It can be any amount of time you choose tho, with any amount of intervals. I like an hour on either side of sunset because it displays all of the colours that occurred between daylight and darkness. Also if your shooting the same time of year this shot was taken, it's far too cold to stay in 1 spot for any longer than that, especially after the sun goes down!

Peyto Lake is a lake in Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies. The lake gets its colour from the large amounts of glacier rock flour that is made from glaciers grinding the mountain granite into a fine powder and flowing down the runoff into the lake during the summer months. The way the light refracts and reflects off this powder in the lake helps determine the colour it is perceived to be from above. The color varies depending on the season and even with the time of day. Rocky Mountain Lakes like this attract a massive amount tourists through Icefield Parkway. Spots like these are some of the most photographed places on earth and for good reason, I'm just not a huge fan of the crowds they attract. If your looking for seclusion in the mountains I would steer clear of places like this in peak season.

~ Imagine Complete Darkness ~

I still remember, wandering around the Chilcotin forest service roads felt like we were navigating a labyrinth. By the time night fell, our old backroads map book led us astray. We thought we were heading to a highway when we found an old cattle ranch in our way with 5 decaying abandoned houses and a fully equipped hunting cabin. It was a hyper-clear night perfect for star photos on top of the plateau. Exploring the old houses was really eerie too, especially when we stumbled upon an old bull face to face in the dark. All we saw was his glowing red eyes at first, where the wall of the house was supposed to be, then a cloud of steaming hot breathe enters the room and we realized it was a massive mammal staring us down. We stayed in the house and let him be as we explored deeper into this haunted old cattle ranch. He later popped up again in the field while we were taking this photo, I remember being fairly nervous and small while feeling his dark presence lurking around us as we played with our cameras. We really lucked out this night, not only with our shots but the hunter's cabin being unlocked and stocked full of wood. The alternative was a much less comfy sleep outside in our tents just waiting to be trampled by our hooved and horned friend.

~Bucket List Shot~

I've lived in the Vancouver area for an accumulative decade now, and ever since my first slr camera I have imagined when and where and how I would capture the full moon over the city. Nowadays there's apps for that, but back in the day I spent many nights out tryin to get in position for the perfect shot relying on nothing but luck and timing.

This shot came much easier than both those options tho. I just happened to be in the perfect spot, packing up from taking some mediocre shots of a maple leaf on a rock during sunset. I saw the bright light in the corner of my eye, a super red sliver, just above a building downtown. At first I didnt have the slightest clue to what it was, I was thinking what sort of rooftop light show could be that bright? I wonder whats goin on.. Then it clicked, so I frantically unpacked my gear again knowing how quickly these moments slip away. By the time my camera got on the tripod the moon was almost in the position it was for this shot, but I couldnt get my shutter speed fast enough to make it sharp.. Duh! The nd filter! So I quickly unscrew the filter and chuck it in my bag, nearly missing and smashing it on the rocks. I managed to adjust the settings just in time as it just pulls into position between the 2 tallest buildings. Another couple minutes pass and the moon fully disapears behind the cloud cover, and its all over.

To be honest I thought I mucked it up, and in some ways I did. I drastically under exposed the scene to preserve detail in the moon and later realized that for the first time since I've owned this camera I switched it off raw when I was shooting the leaf, just out of curiosity. I was kickin myself on the way home for messin up a rad opportunity, but in the end it turned out alright. The shadows and exposure of the city seemed to come up just enough to pull it off without degrading the quality of the photo. All in all, Im striking this 1 off the bucket list in my head and am walking away happy 🙂

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Literally the only source of water for us on the WCT came from waterfalls. Swim in the pools and gather from the falls. This is actually the first trip I've had to filter my water. I'm so used to carrying enough water to make it to the glacier, or close to it, and fill up from there.

We're pretty spoilt here in Western Canada when it comes to water quality, but you have to be careful. The lower the elevation you are the higher chance something upstream can harm your drinking water and make you sick. Some parasites are no joke and can really kick your ass long term. Good thing companies like platypus and salomon are making it easier than ever to fill up with filtered water in no time flat.

Waterfalls were also an excellent source for Berry Family Photos! Swipe right, can you tell who are syblings and who are partners? 😄

Whens the best days to take off work for adventures? For me, I have always loved to extend loong weekends. Hit the trailheads of the most beautiful and popular spots late monday afternoon/evening and spend the night after everyone has packed up and gone. This shot was taken at Joffre Lakes the day after Canada Day long weekend, and aside from 1 other tent we had the entire place to ourselves. If we were there the day before it would have been a verry different story.
