Storm cleanup info for Omaha:
Noon Update: We will offer a curbside collection of tree debris in addition to the five drop-off locations that opened this morning. This citywide collection is expected to begin early next week, once all streets have been cleared of debris, safe and passable. Due to the volume of debris, the curbside collection could take 2-3 weeks to complete. Tree debris should be left on the curb by Monday August 5 to ensure collection. Small limbs can also be put into the FCC garbage cart for collection. If you are able to use a drop-off location, we encourage you to do so. We will continue to provide updates on storm cleanup on the city website homepage, https://www.cityofomaha.org, Facebook, and Twitter, https://x.com/OmahaOfficial. You can also sign up for alerts on the city’s mobile app, Mobile Omaha, on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
The dumpsite at the Papillion Public Works Department, located at 99th Circle and Portal Road, is currently open today, Thursday, Aug. 1, and tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 2, from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The dumpsite will also open Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The dumpsite will ONLY accept tree and vegetation debris. No trash will be accepted. The site is open to Papillion residents, Papillion water customers and La Vista residents only. Bring an ID or a copy of your water bill to prove residency.
Curbside Pickup - Open Only to Residents Inside Papillion City Limits
For residents who may not be able to transport debris to the dumpsite - Starting Monday, Aug. 5, City of Papillion crews will come through neighborhoods inside Papillion City limits to pick up residential tree and vegetation debris from the storm.
By Sunday evening, residents should place the tree and vegetation debris they would like to have picked up along curb lines, not impeding sidewalks or streets. Debris should be cut to be no more than 6 feet in length and should be no more than 4 inches in diameter. Note that our crews will not be able to make repairs to sod and landscaping that residents may have in the curbside right-of-way.

If you're thinking about aerating your yard, spring is a great time to do it! Aerating loosens the soil, and when followed by fertilization and overseeding (and watering of course) can yield a lush, green lawn in no time.
Mid-April is a good time to aerate lawns, especially ones that are slow to drain after a rainstorm or where foot traffic is high. After aeration, let the soil cores dry out for a few days, then run the lawn mower over the area to chew them up and allow the material to gradually filter downwards and mix with the thatch.
