CIEE Twin Cities and Surrounding Areas - Allie's Group
This group is for anyone (25+) interested in hosting a high school exchange student! We welcome families of all shapes and sizes to join and participate!
Good Morning!
Who do you know that I don’t? I’m hoping to talk with: single individuals 25+, retired couples, and single or dual parents with kids about hosting one of our exchange students this year. Please share this post with your personal networks and PM me if you are interested in learning more about our program! There is a student for every family – here are my top 5 favorite kiddos:
• Rodrigo (M) from Mexico has a 4.0 GPA and is into hunting, fishing, football and soccer
• Ana Clara (F) from Brazil loves listening to Taylor Swift, taking pictures, doing makeup, fashion, shopping, going on walks, reading and hanging out with her older sister and cats
• Kanta (M) from Japan is an experienced student, having lived in Canada for a year already. He is outdoorsy and loves watching soccer, baseball and basketball. He says his strengths are communication and building relationships
• Silvia (F) from Ecuador comes from a single-parent household and loves volleyball, cooking, painting/drawing, watching movies and eating at new restaurants
• Udval (F) from Mongolia is all in for trying new activities and clubs while here – since Mongolian schools do not have many opportunities for extracurriculars. She is active, tidy, enjoys watching sporting events and enjoys traveling and spending holidays with extended family
We offer our host families scholarships to help send an American high school student abroad on one of our summer programs, offer 24/7 support during your hosting journey, and a host family is simply responsible to treat the exchange student as part of the family, ensure they have food, a place to sleep and study, and transportation from school & activities. Thanks for your help!
Neighbors: Have you ever met an exchange student? Did you go abroad when you were a teen? Join me for an info session to learn more about CIEE - a nonprofit focused on international educational exchange!
We will answer questions like:
- How does hosting work? Do I randomly get a student?
- Can a single person host? What if I don't have an extra bedroom? Can I host two students?
- Can my own high school student go abroad? (hint: YES!)
- I can't host right now, how do I get my $200 for helping find a family?
- Learn what to expect from Coordinators and CIEE, and ask all the questions that will help you learn more about our programs and students!

Happy Thanksgiving! I am SO thankful for the families that are hosting students this year, and know the students are deeply appreciative of the experience living abroad!
Does anyone have connections to people in the Rosemount, MN community?
I currently have an Italian exchange student attending Rosemount High School, and through no fault of her own, may need a new host family so I'm exploring some options for back-up families.
I'm looking for people in the same district I can connect with who may be interested in hosting her or has a network to share the information with!
Emma is an involved student and already has a great network of friends at Rosemount High School, speaks fluent English, is respectful and sarcastic, social and friendly, and mature beyond her years! She loves kids of any age, animals, camping, adventures, and is easy to talk to and connect with - a really, really great girl!
Send me a FB message or email me at [email protected] for more information.
Please share this post with your own network too!

Luisa from Brazil is looking for a host family for this spring 2023 semester!!
She says, “ I am an extroverted, emotional, caring, companionable, responsible and positive girl. I am the youngest in a family of 3 children and I was born after 15 years. When I have free time I like to play sports, listen to music and hang out with my friends and family. In my program I would like to participate in a volleyball or soccer club, which are the two sports that I practice the most in Brazil but I can participate in any other as well. For my future I intend to exercise some profession related to health, and my first option is medicine.”
CIEE kids are smart, motivated, and ready to engage with their American host families! Just look what people are saying about our current students! Know someone that could host Luisa? Send them my way and get a $200 referral bonus!
Luisa loves books and is only here for the spring 2023 semester - the PERFECT indoor activity during MN’s Jan-May months 📚
CIEE exchange students & families from all over the Twin Cities had a great time during the Welcome BBQ this weekend!
Families come in all shapes and sizes, and these kids are EXCITED to be apart of their local communities - we have kids playing tennis, acting in school plays, joining various school clubs, volleyball players and more PLUS each student will complete volunteer hours throughout their program!
Are you an individual (25+) or family that likes to plan ahead? So are our students! We already have student profiles for kids coming during January 2023 semester and the 23-24 school year!
Reach out if you’d like more information about our program and students 🥰
Do you know anyone with NO pets at home?! I have two kids that have pet allergies looking to come to an American high school for the 22-23 school year.
Refer a family that ends up hosting to get that $1,000 referral bonus!
Hosts can live ANYWHERE in the United States! We have 151 students still looking for their chance to come abroad for the 22-23 school year. Feel free to share to your personal page and put them in touch with CIEE! Apply online to become a host family at ciee.org/hostapply
Good morning!
With how Covid has affected exchange the past two years, CIEE is working hard to find more families!!
CIEE just rolled out a new incentive Friday and is offering a $1,000 referral bonus if you successfully refer someone else to host! That’s ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS for anything you want to save for or spend it on!! This will be paid out once a placement with the referred family is approved. Families can’t have hosted within the past 2 years. You cannot get this bonus if you choose to host a student yourself.
If you know ANYONE that would be willing to open their home to an exchange student that lives in ANY US STATE - please talk to them and see if they want more information on hosting! Think of neighbors, parents, old coworkers, friends, relatives, etc. the list goes on and on!
Please DM me if you’d like help wording something to send to others or post or your page!
A host family recently shared this sweet photo of their exchange student and two young boys!
Know anyone with little kids wanting to host? I have multiple students still looking for homes that would LOVE living in a family with young children at home.
Young kids help students with confidence - kids look at you like you’re the greatest thing ever! They help them with English (what is that child trying to say??) Families are always on the move and students want to be apart of it all!! Having a teen at home can mean an extra set of hands to entertain the littles, help cook dinner, or walk the dog while you take care of things at home. Kids learn from another culture, can make a friend for life and learn how to interact with different cultures and new personalities. Your family creates contacts in other countries, celebrates diversity and explores your community through a fresh set of eyes. Win-win!
Summer is a great time for doing in-person tabling events and outreach :) If you have an event you're attending this summer and think it would be a great place to help spread the word about international exchange, please let me know!
We’re in the heart of placement season and schools still have openings for the fall!
Please share with people you know ❤️
Hosts provide:
- A place to sleep and study
- An extra plate at mealtimes
- Transport to school (bus is fine)
Students speak English, have insurance, personal spending money and are ready to learn and grow during the 22-23 school year!

Meet Helena! She is a 17 year old girl from Brazil
She writes, “I am a very calm person and when I can overcome my shyness I usually take a leadership role. I love to read, explore new things and places, and listen to music, I usually spend most of my day listening to it while I do my tasks. I also enjoy sports, I always find time to watch volleyball matches, that is my favorite sport, soccer, skating, or any other game that is being broadcast. While on my program I would like to join a volleyball team and explore new possibilities. I did a school-to-school exchange to Canada that lasted one month. I have an older brother, a younger sister, and a little dog. I intend to course Architecture and Urbanism at the college.”
We have 200+ smart, motivated, and unique students looking for homes this fall!

🇳🇱🇩🇪🇵🇰🇪🇸🇲🇽 🇵🇱 🇧🇷 🇰🇼 🇮🇹 🇸🇰 🇲🇳
All students deserve to feel and be treated less like a guest, and more like another member of the family ❤️
Host families can be single, retired, have kids of ANY age, or no kids at all! We work with all kinds of different family structures
Does anyone have friends/family/contacts that deal with Celiac disease? I’d love to reach out to them to see if they have connections within that community!
Rebecca is a 17-year-old girl from Italy:
Allergic to soy, milk, eggs and has Celiac Disease (gluten free diet - no wheat, barley or rye)
She says, “I’m a radiant and friendly person and I like laughing: I often use the irony to relate me to the world, of course by positive way. I’m hard-working and determined: I care about what I do and when I want to do something, I do it. I like listening to music and if I feel sad or bored, I take the headphones and I leave myself will be transported by the music. Since I was young, I've danced in a dance school, first the ballet and then modern. While on my program I would like to play volleyball at school or became a cheerleader, that I've always dreamed. Finally, I love travelling with my family and my friends, and the best trip that I’ve ever taken was the one to London in 2019.”
Today I saw my first profile from the Netherlands! 🇳🇱
Loes is a 17 year old female who writes, “I love laughing and I am an active and sympathetic girl. I love to stay busy by participating in a soccer team. I also enjoy skiing, baking and cooking. While on my program I would like to join a soccer team. I have two brothers and a dog who I can have lots of fun with. I am looking forward to cooking and baking traditional Dutch foods for my host family”
I wish I could post pictures of all the great kids I write about, but I cannot!
ISO families with horses interested in hosting a German exchange student 🐴 🇩🇪 Let me know if you have connections I can pursue!
Perada, a 16 year old girl from Thailand would be a fantastic addition to any family looking for a perfect blend of active activities and independent relaxation time at home!
She writes, "Hi!! You can call me Pink. I love exploring nature, the beaches, and learning new things. I’m a kind, caring, and easy-going person. I enjoy cooking, cycling, reading inspiration and motivation books, watching movies, traveling, doing activities with friends and family (I love to spend time with them), and being a volunteer because I really love to help others. While on my program I would like to participate in Foreign Affairs Club or soccer team and be a volunteer. I love kids and animals, especially dogs, cats, and birds. I am looking forward to cooking Thai foods for my host family. My dream job is to become a diplomat because I would like to represent Thailand as a wonderful country and since I like linguistics, all branches of social sciences, including world news and laws, and also meet a lot of different new people."
CIEE Students are smart, motivated, and ready to engage with their American peers - attributes that benefit any classroom and family. We currently have 15 students with perfect 4.0 GPA's!
Nina from Italy, Alica from Slovakia, and Mona from Jordan are all eager to live with American families and learn in an American school.
Though our young people arrive in August, we are connecting them with Host Families now to secure their spots at the High School nearest to you. Contact me today to learn more!
Most students stay for the school year (August-May) but Host Families can host for as little as 6-8 weeks, welcoming the student when they first arrive and getting them settled at your local school
Our Host Families provide:
- A place for the student to sleep and study
- Food for 3 meals a day
- Help organize transportation to/from school (like the bus)
- Most importantly, treat the student as part of your family!
