Are we laughing or crying? Both? The epic curse on Electra and Orestes’ family runs for many generations, it is inescapable, yet we can’t help but notice how unheroic these two protagonists are. Euripides’ play takes us to the unglamorous suburbs of the city to find princess Electra married to a peasant and banished from her palace. Tackling themes of morality, revenge and forgiveness, Euripides brings down an epic myth into a domestic setting and so challenges the actions of the heroes and gods.
Using Professor Emily Wilson’s translation, our modernised play will explore the potential for comedy and tragedy in Euripides’ narrative. We will play with experimental scenography as Electra and Orestes’ worlds begin to change.
The annual Classical play is accompanied by lectures, Q&A’s and workshops given by leading academics and theatre practitioners, most of which are open to the general public which means, as an added bonus, we tend to have a great audience turn out! Our production team and cast will be given unique opportunities to be involved in a range of events as part of the Classical play week.
For the cast: If you are interested in experimenting with dramaturgy, working in a west end theatre, exploring ancient Greek theatre (translation and adaptation, whether you have previous experience or not), and meeting new people - Please get in touch and sign up below!!!
For the production team: We are looking for an assistant director, assistant producers/ social media manager, costume designer, set manager and music manager. A wonderful experience for people interested in producing shows in the future and working in industry environments. No previous experience is needed!

We really look forward to hearing from you :-)
