The first time I met Ron was in 2017. It was his first tour across the country. He made the Columbia Gorge one of his destinations and we hosted him at Yoga Samadhi. Fast forward to 2022, he is still touring. I had the opportunity to see him live in Jackson, Wy a couple of weeks ago. It was such a magical experience, and one thing I loved most is how many people showed up to be in community together. This has been missing for so many people. It is my hope that we find each other again, without a screen in between us!! Thank you for a beautiful evening!!!

Be still,
and move.
Be still
and move towards the sacred.
Be still,
and let your attention shimmer like leaves in the breeze.
Be still,
and let your attention shimmer like leaves in the breeze.
Be still,
and shine the sun of your radiant self:
The true self, the one you've always been.
Be still and move towards
what really matters,
what you're really looking for in this life.
Distractions
and the pull of others' demands
have led your heart astray
to fatigue, emptiness,
and a wasteland of self-judgement.
Be still
and move into truth.
Let the ocean of your breath
whisper you back to that source your life was born from,
and where it all returns to.
Be still
and move into love.

Surya Namaskar, also known as Sun Salutation, Surya meaning "sun" and Namaskar meaning "greeting" or "salutation", is an asana salutation performed to the Sun. When practicing Surya Namaskar while chanting, you are offering gratitude and love for the life-giving energy that the sun provides.
Traditionally Surya Namaskar is practiced in the early morning as the sun rises and should be part of your daily Sadhana, which is a daily spiritual practice. Practicing several rounds of Surya Namaskar combined with chanting mantras is a powerful practice to awaken your Manipura Chakra (root).

Kumbhaka is the state of suspended breath; A place of rest, pause, space. The breath is a reflection of the movements of the mind. The practice of Kumbhaka is to create a pause, space, and rest.
Great yogis understood that we were given a particular amount of breath per life, and that properly practiced pranayama with kumbhaka slows down the pace of breathing. This not only gives an extension of life but ease as well. Breathing fast is associated with being stressed (tension, fear, worry, anxiety). Stress leads to disease, or dis-ease in the body, unhappiness, and a shorter life. Breathing slowly is associated with being relaxed, calm, healthy, and happy and leads to longevity or extended life.
Step One: Find a comfortable seat, close your eyes, and allow your body to relax.
Step Two: Inhale, exhale, pause for as long as you can without any strain.
Continue with this practice for the duration of your meditation with your main focus on the pause or the space between each breath.

Mantras can be practiced anywhere at any time. However, a formal japa (repetition of a mantra) practice would be to sit in a meditation position, close your eyes, and allow your body to relax. Begin to chant by singing or speaking out loud, or by repeating a mantra mentally to yourself. Using a mala is entirely up to you.
I've been taught a couple of different ways to use the mala while chanting. Hold the mala in your right hand and start with the first bead, next to the guru bead. Rotate the mala towards you, one bead at a time, each time you chant. When you get to the guru bead, switch directions and rotate the mala away from you, one bead at a time, each time you chant. The thumb and the third finger rotate the beads and the mala should not touch the floor, nor should it hang below the navel.
What's most important is that you chant from your heart with faith, feeling, and devotion.

WHAT A CRAZY TIME TO BE ALIVE! There is so much conflict and division in the world and over the last couple of years, there has been great hardship for so many people. As a collective, we have distanced ourselves from humanity. Personal beliefs are being challenged, and differing opinions are no longer acceptable. Change and uncertainty will no doubt bring up fear and vulnerability for almost everyone. How we choose to handle this fear is what is most important.
If I’ve learned anything through yoga, it is that change is a necessary path to liberation. The way we view the world is a direct reflection of our internal state. We can choose to resist the change that is happening, and attach to beliefs and stories about the way the world should be, which leads to disappointment and suffering, or we can see it as an exciting time, filled with possibility.
Yoga provides an opportunity to reconnect with yourself and the world. Everyone is capable of connecting to that place deep inside that longs for more, and desires to awaken and experience real love. The moment I decided to take my yoga practice deeper, and moved beyond the physical (asana), my life began to change for the better.

The Karma Yoga Path, is the yoga of action and service. It is to be of service, and to contribute to bettering the world, without attachment to the outcome, or expectation to receive something in return. One sees all action as service to the Divine. Through the Karma Yoga path, the heart becomes pure and there is space for humility, sympathy, love, and compassion, while hatred, jealousy, selfishness, and similar negative qualities dissolve.
Practicing Karma Yoga is bringing your spiritual practice to all of your actions. Karma Yoga should be part of your daily living, whether you are in service to others or in service to yourself. In Karma Yoga the most mundane tasks, like doing the dishes, mopping the floors, or going to the grocery store, can be part of your spiritual practice and can be done with absolute heart-felt devotion.
“With Karma Yoga, all desires eventually merge into one, which is to serve and ultimately serve the Divine.” - Roger Gabriel

"The one thing I love most about India was when I would take the time to just be with someone, even if we didn’t speak the same language, I could feel their love. I could sense their devotion and their desire to give. And although most of the Indians I met were extremely poor, they felt so rich, so full of love and so happy. I obviously can’t speak for everyone, and I know that each human experience is unique, but the love that I felt while in India touched something deep inside me.
What I learned is that this love that I am speaking of is yoga. You do not have to travel to India to experience this love. It is available to us at every moment, but you must be open and willing to receive it. If you can learn to see everything as sacred, and discover the beauty that exists in all of life, you will without a doubt experience this love, and if you look deep enough, you will find that this love is who you are. It is your true nature and the true nature of all beings." - Crystal Borup

"Ask any of my yoga students and they will tell you how much I love to chant Sanskrit Mantras. I started chanting regularly in 2013, the same year I traveled to India, the same year I met my teacher, Brother Ed, and the same year I became a yoga teacher. Needless to say, it was a very big year for me. I was fully immersed in yoga and the spiritual teachings had captured my heart." - Crystal Borup

There is nothing more powerful
than the sense of being alive.
A singular person,
given the most exquisite privilege of being here,
couldn't possibly be anything less than astonished,
to run through the streets
singing and shouting at the top of their lungs:
How glorious! How marvelous!
There is sand!
There is eternal blue sky!
And my God!
Have you seen the stars?
One could
spend their entire lifetime in them.
To be spiritual
is to be
this awake.
Life does not go on;
it opens.
And we are here to be amazed at its unfoldment.
Look! - By Zach Beach
May you have a glorious holiday filled with love!!
