I have been asked by a parent yet again to report irresponsible parking and driving outside and around Ffaldau Primary School. If you are taking your kids to school there please give a thought to everyone else taking their kids there. Max.

At a school visit last week I found out that in one of our primary schools in the valley, teachers have been buying food for families in need. Yesterday I had the pleasure of delivering £250 worth of food to help. This food was paid for by donations from,

William Trigg Community Centre Donations
£100
Calon y Cwm CIO
£100
Garw Valley Branch Labour Party
£50

I hope this helps a little.
Max.

I would like to thank Council Leader Huw David and Huw Irranca Davies MS for coming up to Pontycymer this morning to show support for Pontycymer RFC and their new venture.
Max.

Good work!

25/09/2023

This is my second year as Chair of the Licensing Committee for Bridgend Council and as part of this role I am on the joint committee for Shared Regulatory Services. In the past 2 weeks I have received notification that 2 rogue traders from Bridgend Borough have recieved custodial sentences (1 suspended) for taking money and not doing work or extremely bad and dangerous workmanship. I am glad to see these people being brought to book. Too often these people are getting away with inflicting misery on innocent people. Let this be a warning to others, you will be caught in the end. I want to say a massive thank you to all involved at SRS for their months and sometimes years of hard work. Da Iawn.

AN UPDATE ON THIS POST.
Welsh Water have had to put this back by 2 weeks, it will now begin 29th August.

01/08/2023

Just had a meeting with Welsh Water/Dwr Cymru. From 14th August for approximately 3 to 4 weeks there will be works being carried out in Oxford Street to replace a collapsed sewer. This will be from the crossing outside Pontycymer RFC down to around Marks Shoe Shop. There will be lights in place. This is essential work.

This was a lovely event, the parents of the children should be so proud of them....I was! ❤

16/06/2023

We have received figures from South Wales Fire and Rescue. Since the 1st of April they have responded to over 400 grass and wild fires that have been set deliberately, with around 10% in one 7 day period. We all know what it does for the look of our beautiful valley, but that is the least of the problem. Do the people doing this realise the risk to life and property? The amazing work being done by our brave fire fighters is something we can never thank them enough for....they put their lives at risk to save our community, but while the crews are fighting these fires they are being taken away from things like house fires etc. Please talk to your children about the dangers of setting fires, it's not a game!
Once again Thank you to South Wales Fire and Rescue, South Wales Police and Natural Resources Wales.

We are planning 2 PACT meetings on Saturday 20th May.
1pm til 2pm at William Trigg Community Centre Blaengarw.
2.30pm til 3.30pm at the OAP Centre Pontycymer.
If your as fed up with the crime in our community as we are please come along.

Im sorry i got the wrong place, it was Calon Lan Park.

I am deeply saddened for the family that have had the memorial bench for their loved one smashed to pieces in Pontycymer. Please talk to your children. I do believe this is a small minority doing this wanton damage. If they are caught i truly hope there is no slap on the wrist. They should be prosecuted, let them try to get a decent job or into university with a criminal record!

04/05/2023

Tonight on social media i have heard of 3 incidents of anti social behaviour and damage. PLEASE if you see anything phone the police if its happening there and then phone 999 if not please phone 101 or report it online. The police don't come up the valley because they think there is no crime because nobody reports anything. The more that gets reported the better the police presence. Please lets try to stop this pointless destruction.

Just wanted to say well done to the new committee in Blaengarw Rugby Club. The work you guys are putting in is amazing. The grounds are looking really good! I truly hope the community gets behind you and keeps the club alive. Hats off to you all. X

23/04/2023

I would like to thank South Wales Police for the sign reminding a local drug user he is being watched....bet he had a bit of a shock yesterday morning when he saw it, he didn't stay long! We will not tolerate this in our community! Don't be afraid to report things you see. You might think the police don't care about the Garw Valley but if you report issues things happen.

It is with great pleasure the Garw Valley Councillors can announce that 6 out of all the playgrounds in the ward are being refurbished.
These are 2 in Bettws
1 in Llangeinor
3 in Pontycymer
The rest including Blaengarw are in the next round.
Some things will be replaced, some will be refurbished and there will also be some new things for children with mobility issues. There will be new soft flooring installed. This is great news for the Garw Valley ward for a change we are having more done than any other ward in the Borough. We are fighting for our community.
Cllr. Maxine Lewis.

📣 Free school meals for reception pupils begin at local primary schools in Bridgend County Borough!

🥘 The start of the 2022 autumn term in Bridgend County Borough has coincided with the launch of a new initiative to ensure that primary school children will not go hungry.

🏫 Starting today, all children who attend reception classes at primary schools across Bridgend County Borough will be offered the option of a free school meal.

🌹 The move marks the first phase in the roll-out of the Universal Primary Free School Meals scheme – a £25m Welsh Government initiative that will help ease the burden of the ongoing cost of living crisis.

👉 As part of this Wales-wide scheme, schools in Bridgend County Borough have been awarded £1.1m to improve and refurbish their kitchen facilities to support the initiative, which is on track to cover all primary school year groups over the next two years.

🗣 Cllr Cllr Jon-Paul Blundell, Cabinet Member for Education, said: “We fully support this Welsh Government initiative, which has been launched at a time when it will also help local families cope with the difficulties and challenges of the cost of living crisis.

💭 “The initial phase is targeting the youngest learners within the community, and the next phase of the plan will see the offer extended to pupils in Years One and Two before moving on to target children in Years Three, Four, Five and Six. Progress is being monitored carefully, and our aim is to ensure that by 2024, all primary school children will receive the offer of a free school meal.”
