πŸ„Additional DAY & Event added for this year!πŸ„

Join us at the 3rd annual Olympic Peninsula Fungi Festival for a unique and insightful event: the Elwha River Restoration Survey. Organized by Graham Steinruck and Dr Amy Honan (OSU)

This special program, held in collaboration with The Biodiversity Collective, The Elwha Tribe, The National Park Service, and Olympic Hiking Co., offers a rare opportunity to explore the dynamic fungal ecology of the Elwha River region.

Event Details:
πŸ“… Dates: Thursday, October 17th and Friday, October 18th
⏰ Time: 8:30 AM – 1:30 PM
βœ… **Registration**: Limited to 24 participants per day. Tickets required.

What to Expect:
Participants will join small, guided groups to venture into areas along the Elwha River, including regions within the restored zones of former dam sites and undisturbed locations. Our expert guides will teach you how to properly locate, collect, document, and prepare both above-ground and below-ground fungal specimens for DNA barcoding.

This hands-on experience aims to gather crucial data to compare fungal communities in different environmental contexts. The collected data will enhance our understanding of fungal ecology in restoration areas, providing valuable insights for future ecological restoration projects.

Highlights:
- Learn field techniques for fungal specimen collection and documentation.
- Gain knowledge about the role of fungi in ecosystem restoration.
- Contribute to meaningful scientific research on fungal diversity and ecology.
- Explore the beautiful Elwha River landscape with knowledgeable guides.

Whether you're a seasoned mycologist, an enthusiastic amateur, or simply curious about fungi and ecological restoration, this survey offers an unparalleled opportunity to engage with nature and science.

Register beginning August 4th to secure your spot in this fascinating and educational event. Together, we can uncover the hidden world of fungi and its crucial role in ecosystem restoration.

Time to introduce more of the OPFF Planning Team πŸ„πŸŒ²βœ¨

Next up, is Courtney Nestler. Her role is Marketing Coordinator.

"I've been fascinated with nature my entire life. And mushrooms have always intrigued me, not quite a plant, not quite an animal, just it's own thing which I think is really cool. I love helping promote community building events - I truly want everyone to win. And with a team like this, working together to learn, educate ourselves and each other, all to help create a festival for all to enjoy has been truly inspiring. I loved meeting and learning from all the fungi folks last year (both highly interesting and a TON of fun) - and I look forward to learning more and more each year."
