Today vs 2018
If body dysmorphia was a person, it would be my girl on the right. ๐ค
It was 2018, and I had recently left one demanding job for another, even more demanding job. I was under-eating, over-training, super stressed, anxious, and not sleeping enough. Not to mention my personal life was completely fu**ed.
I had gotten pretty lean. I weighed about 138 and was 16% body fat or so. I remember when I first took the picture, I was actually PROUD!! I posted a transformation collage to show my progress. It had been like a couple weeks between the photos and I had lost 5% body fat. I didn't even consider how unhealthy that actually was.

All I knew at that point was I was going to "get some abs" or die trying. And the more I saw the fat melting away, the closer I thought I was. I didn't stop to think that my body was eating itself ๐
Some people commented that I had gotten too slim. I couldn't see it in the mirror. I just saw that I needed to lose more inches. Work out harder. Eat less and less and suppress my hunger as long as I could.
A blast from the past from when I had struggled with anorexia/bulimia in my childhood.
I started to notice the relation between the way I was treating my body, and how satisfied I was with my life. I was training hard and restricting my diet because I felt my life was spiraling out of control.
Needless to say I left that job. And my life is nowhere near as stressful as it was then. And I take care of myself now!
I learned to love myself at all stages. Even the stages when i am not showing myself love. And even though I DID sn**ch that waist pretty good, I dont prefer how I looked in that right photo. I dont like how I felt about myself in that photo either. But im grateful for everything that got me to that point. ๐
I didn't choose the gym life, the gym life chose me ๐คโ

How to Transform Your Body
โผ๏ธalways remember the 80/20 rule: your body composition is due 80% to the way you eat and 20% to your workout program. It starts with what you put in your body.
โผ๏ธ be consistent. Even when you can come up with a million reasons why you "can't", you gotta do it anyway! In fact, the real change happens when you push thru those moments of weakness.
โผ๏ธ exercise as if you LOVE your body...not as if you hate it. A simple shift in perspective can go a long way.
โผ๏ธ be patient. All things take time. Remember that even the smallest changes will take about 2 weeks to see. So be patient with yourself and before you know it, you're 12 weeks in, and a whole new person ๐

๐How to grow your glutes:๐
- Carbs, carbs, and carb some more!
- Drink 3-3.5 L of water per day
- Stretch, inhibit, foam roll at least 4-5x per week
- Hip thrust and deadlift heavy 2x per week
- Squat every mf day, and go as heavy and low as u can
- Isolate hamstrings at least 3x per week
- Plyometric training at least 1x per week
๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝThat's pretty much it! And if you're already on top of these things, just fine tune it and turn it up so u can make gains! ...ya feel me ๐ช๐ฝ

Strengths are things you're good at. We all are good at something, right? Some people are athletic, some are great musicians, others are good at fixing things. ๐

A key to being successful in just about any venture is to identify your strengths and see which ones fit the task at hand. Another key to success is to identify your weaknesses.
Weaknesses are skill areas that are underdeveloped. Notice, I did not say weaknesses are things you're incapable of doing or you completely lack in. This is because, deep within your weakness is the source of your strength.
๐ขThere's a wealth of untapped potential in developing your weaknesses. That's powerful af!๐ข
But here's something to put on yo mind real quick-- --Sometimes your greatest strength can be your greatest weakness...
When we are super good at something, sometimes we rely too much on it. And on the converse, when we are really good at one thing, we tend to avoid improving other potentially useful skills. We try to get by on strength alone. Which can only get u so far until you're just over doing it and out-of-balance.

I would say, me...personally, my greatest strength is the fact that I have an undying passion and drive to identify, own, and strengthen my weaknesses. It's a mental thang... but with just that mentality, I will succeed at anything I do with intention ๐ช๐ฝ๐

Laughter is the best medicine ๐
I'm sure you've heard this saying before, but did u know that this has been scientifically proven??
Here are 6 reasons why laughter is good for you--
๐ It helps u pump out endorphins, the feel good chemical in your brain. Did u know endorphins bind with the opiod receptors in your brain? That pretty much means laughter causes the same euphoric reaction as opioid narcotics... and may be just as addictive, but healthy tho.
๐ It is contagious. When laughing with others, it multiplies the endorphin effect, creating a sense of bonding, safety, and connectedness. You ever just laugh at somebody laughing?? Unmatched.
๐ It challenges your brain. Different types of laughter is decoded in different areas of the brain. If someone is laughing happily, your brain processes it in a completely different area than an evil laugh.
๐ It can be romantic. Men really appreciate when a woman laughs at his jokes, and women love a man that can make them laugh. And it dont hurt if both can make each other laugh. Thats why it has been reported that couples who laugh together have higher-quality relationships.
๐ It is a great natural anti-depressant. Laughing triggers your brain to release serotonin, which is typically low for people who have depression. These effects are brief, but potent.
๐ It protects your heart. Laughter has an anti-inflammatory effect on blood vessels and cardiac muscle. Regular, hearty laughter reduces the body's stress response. Every heart patient should be prescribed with a daily dose of laughter.
Do yourself a favor, loosen up a little and laugh, would u? Sometimes life gets a little too serious, and we forget that our health encompasses so many moving parts. Go watch a funny movie. Go tickle your baby. Tell your dad a corny joke. Just laugh!! It's good for the soul.
In the beginning, it's really easy to get inspired..
I think we've all been here, right? We set out with all this gusto and good intention. But then, a few days or weeks down the line, the gusto fades... and real life sets in again..
You're not sure if you got what it takes to reach the goal anymore.

Goals are cool and all, but without a clear vision and plan of action, your goals fade away too. I once read that a goal without action is a wish. Isn't it frustrating when wishes don't come true?

People always ask me: how do u stay motivated to work out? ๐ค
Life comes at u fast sometimes, and before u know it, BOOM! a cheat day becomes a week...that break u took from the gym becomes an extended stay...and u get into the vicious cycle of beating yourself up, yet continuing the same destructive habits.
We have all been there! I know I have been. And I'm sure, it'll happen a few million more times in the future lol
Here are a few ways I keep myself going:
1. Talk nice to yoself man ๐ค
2. Find a non-fitness related reason to workout ๐ง
3. Make it exciting or fun for yourself ๐คฉ
4. Find u a gym rat workout buddy ๐ค
5. Create a lil friendly competition with friends or on socials ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ
6. Treat yoself to a lil reward every now and again ๐คค
7. Try a group fitness class ๐คผ๐ฝโโ๏ธ

We spend so much time disconnected from our very own bodies, that we ignore the gentle cues they give us.
Self care should never be a low priority. I mean seriously, your body is your most important vehicle. U gotta put gas in it, get the oil changed, and stay on top of the maintenance work so it doesn't break down.
The 'self' vehicle is so intricate; u gotta put a lot into for it to function properly.
So, whatever it is you were doing before u read this post can wait 5 minutes for u to connect with your self, and give it some care โค ๐

It's Monday! The start of a new week, and a great day to evaluate those goals.
Are your goals quantifiable? A lot of us are really vague when it comes to goal setting. It is impossible to achieve a goal without having clear parameters and an action plan on how to get there.
It can't just be "I want to lose weight" it has to be "I will lose X pounds by X date because of X."
Clear goals don't have to be complicated, huge, or life changing at all. They just have to be SMART.
SMART goals are:
๐Specific- don't be vague.
๐Measurable- track your progress so you'll know when you've accomplished it.
๐Attainable- it needs to be realistic. Is this something u actually can work toward?
๐Relevant- it should be within your chosen field or skill set. Achieving the goal should benefit you directly.
๐Time bound- set a time frame so that you will stay on track.
The good thing about being clear with your goals is you can easily track your success and adjust your approach if things get stale or you're just not feeling it.

I have a goal to consistently take my vitamins and supplements for 30 days. Once I succeed, I will self reflect. And then I will re-up on the goal to make sure I continue to progress. ๐ช๐ฝ
