Palms Deaf Church Devotional - "The Chosen" - Day 24

We did it - We finished 14 weeks of looking at the Characters from The Chosen. We hope you’ve enjoyed this devotion time as we looked at the various characters from Jesus’s story, as we tried to relate to characters and see how these were all real people with real stories who decided to follow Jesus. In order to follow Jesus, we need to know God’s word, so our next devotional series will look at why it is important to know God’s word and to read the bible. We hope that you will join us for our next series. God has a plan for you, just as he did for all of the characters we’ve met through The Chosen. Will you accept God’s plans for yourself?

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - "The Chosen" - Day 23

Jesus’s mother, Mary, was able to be a first-hand witness to all of the blessings and miracles that Jesus did in the world. She was there at his birth after the angel announced she would be pregnant all the way until his death, and Jesus always made her know that she was loved. The same way that Jesus wants you to know that you are loved.

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - "The Chosen" - Day 22

It happens to the best of us – we believe in what Jesus taught us, and we try to follow his way, but sometimes self-doubt, anxiety, or the cloud of darkness can lead us astray. Today we see how Mary of Magdala’s character in The Chosen experiences this inner turmoil, and her friends bring her back to Jesus who with open arms accepts and forgives her. We need to know, that when we lose our way, God is right there willing to accept us back into his arms!

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - "The Chosen" - Day 21

Do you feel like you have scars or past issues that prevent you from connecting with other people or with God himself? Today we look at the character “Elam” from The Chosen whose hand was deformed, and it caused him to be rejected by his community. But Jesus uses the healing of this man as an example, both that he is capable of such healing but also that the Sabbath is made for doing good things. We can see through this example that regardless of what may be holding us back, Jesus can heal it.

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - "The Chosen" - Day 20

Jesus said: “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for such is the kingdom of heaven.” Today we talk about Abigail, a character in The Chosen. She was a curious girl who ventured out into the woods to find this man living there. She and her friends spent time with him, helping him with projects and listening to him teach. Through her example, we can see how God Loves all the children of the world. Big and little. What are we doing to invite the children to come to know Jesus?

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - "The Chosen" - Day 19

Everyone has a role to play. Some people may feel that their role is small, but you never know the important way it may play into the big picture. Today we look at Thaddeus in The Chosen and how his role was to just introduce James to Jesus, and that James would later become one of Jesus’s 12 disciplines. We need to remember God has a plan for us too, and that we are called to share our light with others.

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - "The Chosen" - Day 18

Have you ever felt alone and lost with your own issues? Did you know that you’re never really alone? Jesus can see you even when you’re sitting alone under a tree dealing with your own issues. That’s the story we hear about in our devotional today as we look at the story of Nathaniel. Jesus tells him, long before they were ever introduced, Jesus knew Nathaniel, in fact, he was with him when he was under the fig tree alone. Join us to learn how God is always with us, and sees each of us.

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - "The Chosen" - Day 17

For today’s devotional, we look at Philip. Philip was once a follower of John the Baptist, whose job it was the point the way to Jesus. Well that worked for Philip, he realized he wanted to leave John and go follow Jesus, but he had to learn to be patient and wait for God’s time to be right. We also must learn to trust in God’s timeline.

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - “The Chosen” - Day 16

On Tuesday we looked at Jesse. He waited for decades by the pool in Bethesda for the chance to be healed. In “The Chosen” his brother, Simon, went away to become a warior. Today we look at Simon, and how Simon said that if he could see his brother walk he would know that the messiah had arrived. Just as we he was about to do something terrible, he saw his brother walking. God’s timing is always perfect. He can see things in a way we never will be able to. We must learn to trust, as Jesse and Simon did, to trust God’s time and to accept what he has to offer.

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - “The Chosen” - Day 15

For decades a man in the Bible would go to a pool of water and wait. Rumor was that if an angel came and stirred the water, and you were the first one to enter the water, you could be healed. For decades he waited, until Jesus showed up and simply asked “Do you want to be healed?” Jesus asks us the same thing, do we want to accept what he has to offer? Today we look at the character Jesse from “The Chosen” and the message he has for our lives today.

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - “The Chosen” - Day 14

Sometimes Jesus challenges us to do things we don’t feel worthy or capable of doing. Have you ever experienced this? Maybe you feel because of all of the mistakes you’ve made in your life, you are not a good representative for God? That is what the focus of today’s devotional felt. Today, we look at how John is portrayed in “The Chosen”, and how he struggled with doing a relatively simple task that Jesus asked of him. Later, John would go on to be one of the author’s of the Bible. Jesus uses us, regardless of our past to share his light with the world.

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - “The Chosen” - Day 13

Today’s “The Chosen” devotional looks to James. James held deep seeded prejudices. Do you, or does anyone you know hold prejudices? Jesus wants us to overcome these judgemental attitudes towards others. Jesus wants us to love everyone the way he does, to serve him with Love and humility. Today we look at how Jesus taught this lesson to James, and it serves as an example for us still today.

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - “The Chosen” - Day 12

Have you made mistakes you’re not proud of? Do you carry around guilt or shame that prevents you from having the relationship with Jesus that he wants to have? Today’s story from “The Chosen” illustrates this in the life of Melech. He was broke, destitute, and couldn’t provide from his family. At this low point in his life he made a decision that would haunt him. But Jesus helped him through is grief, and changed him from the inside out. Jesus can do the same for you! Palms Deaf Church Devotional - “The Chosen” - Day 11

Some people can feel separated from community. Today, in our “The Chosen” devotional series we look at someone who feels that way. Known as The Woman at the Well in the bible, The Chosen gives her the name “Photina,” and today we look at how Jesus chooses to meet up with Photina not to condemn her for what has set her apart from her peers, but to truly connect with her, and to reveal God’s love. You too should know that Jesus is seeking you out, and wants you to know his love as well.

Would you drag them onto a roof of a house, cut a hole and then lower your friend down just for the chance to meet Jesus? Today we look at the character Tamar from “The Chosen” and how she did just that. What lessons can we learn from Tamar? Join us for day 10 of “The Chosen” devotional as we learn from Tamar’s example.

Palms Deaf Church Devotional - “The Chosen” - Day 8

Leprosy was a very serious disease in Jesus’s time. People who were inflicted with this illness were not allowed anywhere near people who were healthy. In today’s installment of our “The Chosen” devotional series we look at a man with leprosy who approached Jesus and said “Lord, if you’re willing you can heal me”. What faith! How can we emulate this character from the bible with the challenges we face in life?
