Has your communication suffered in the past 2 weeks?

For me, Quarantine is bringing out areas in my life where my communication skills need attention.

Even if we have the best intentions, the way in which we ask or try to inspire someone to perform an action can be taken the wrong way.

It could be anything from asking someone to be more tidy or asking them to take their personal commitments in business and life to another level.

Whatever your request/ask is...you might enjoy this skiing analogy that my coach gave me yesterday.

It instantly clarified my approach...and why sometimes...it causes conflict.

If you are like me and want to give 110%...but sometimes it's not well received, then you might enjoy this story.

Are you starting to feel vulnerable?

For many of us, Vulnerability is looked at as a weakness. If you look at the dictionary, the literal term of vulnerable is
"susceptible to physical or emotional attack or harm."

So, it's not surprising that we do our best to avoid vulnerability at all costs! However, in the long run how does that serve us?

Embracing vulnerability actually makes us stronger. Why? Because it's authentic. Instead of looking at Vulnerability as a weakness, what if we reframed it like this

"The freedom to express oneself without fear of judgement"

You're probably thinking "What the hell does this have to do with what's going on right now, Daniel?"

The more we embrace being 'vulnerable', the more familiar we are with how it feels. The more familiar we are...the more comfortable we become with it.

Right now, people are freaked out because they feel "susceptible to physical or emotional attack or harm." This means they are 'reacting' to the environment.

If you embraced 'vulnerability' and started to feel more familiar with it...you would be able to 'respond' to the climate, which would help you to make better decisions for you and your family...
.and...
..You'd be more connected to yourself and ultimately those around you.

What's stopping you from competing with Quicken Loans?

"I haven't got a $400m advertising budget, how can I compete with them?" you'd claim...and well, you'd be absolutely right...However, NOT SO FAST...who said you need to compete with them?

Why can't you just take a leaf out of their book and take a smaller piece of the pie? One of the greatest abilities you have as a LOCAL MORTGAGE ADVISOR...is just that.

You're local. You build local meaningful relationships. What's missing from your approach is that you probably don't have the infrastructure to lead generate like they do. What would your business look like if you did have the tools to implement that?

How could you further push your brand and messaging into the community if you build a more solid digital foundation? If you want to compete with Quicken you don't need a $400m budget, you just need partners to make it possible for you to lead generate on a local level.

Do you know the difference between focusing ON your business instead of IN your business?

To some of you, this might seem obvious, but to us, we deal with plenty of Members who are really good at working on the day to day, but they ignore the long game. Why should you care?

Right now, when the squeeze is on, you can quickly start to see what areas of your business are either falling apart or are thriving.

The most successful business and business people are experts in building SYSTEMS and PROCESSES. By doing this, you are building a business that doesn't rely on YOU. If your business is slowing down, then don't use this as an excuse to take it easy, use it as an opportunity to refocus your efforts in building systems and processes.

As an individual salesperson, it can be incredibly difficult to find the time to work ON the business. Guess what? Now you have it.

Where is your mindset at RIGHT NOW? Are you operating from a place of fear, anxiety and doubt? Or are you operating in a place of opportunity, abundance and gratitude?

Just like you, I get so caught up with the day that sometimes, I forget to check in with myself and see if the decisions I have been making over the past day, week or month are coming from a place of survival or thriving.

If there's anything that's true about this period of time, it's provided us with the opportunity to engage in a collective consciousness that is forcing us to feel. Feel all sorts of things.

However, what you FEEL today, is a result of the work that you've done leading up to these events.

If you're reacting to life...you probably haven't been doing 'the work'...if you're 'responding to life', then you're probably making choices that are EXPANSIVE.

Who wants a simple trick to make their day happier?

Okay, it might not be applicable to everyone who is reading this, but if you want to make your day a little happier then I might recommend doing 3 things.

Call your clients

Check in on them. See what problems they are facing. See if you can be of service to them even if you're not selling them anything!

I had several AMAZING phone calls yesterday with my clients who gave me ideas, love, and we were even fortunate enough to make sales, too.

Even if you're not a sales person...ring your friends and family...just ask them how they're doing and hold space. I'm sure it will bring a smile to your face!

When is the last time you went online and researched yourself?

Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Yelp, Instagram, the whole lot? If you haven't done this in a while, then now is the perfect time to start sorting out your online presence dirty laundry.

Right now, with the current climate, more than ever, people are turning inwards. They are quite literally 'quarantined'. So, their attention will likely turn to distractions. On their phone. On their laptops. Online.

Isn't this the perfect storm for you to start taking action? When things are great...it's easy to ignore the mess. When they're not, and people are focusing on your dirty laundry, all of a sudden we feel embarrassed. Like we could do better.

Well, why don't you use this TIME to clean up the experience our prospects, customers and referral partners have when they do look at you online?

After all, all they are searching for is someone to trust. Do you trust you?

The main reason you won't achieve your goals in 2020 might not have anything to do with this market climate...
..and everything to do with the fact that you didn't even write them down. I don't have any clue where this is going and neither does anyone else.

We're bombarded with peoples opinions on a daily basis, which can serve as a distraction from us achieving our goals.

At the end of the year, do we want to look back at this period of time and say "That really screwed up my year", or do we want to look back and say "Wow...I pivoted, and achieved more than I ever had imagined".

For many of us, I'm sure our goals are financial related. "I want to buy a home" "I want to donate to charity" "I want to go on vacation", etc, etc..

So, what do our goals look like IF there is an uncertain financial future? Are they so based on financial reward that it screws up your year, or do you take this opportunity to pivot slightly?

Don't use this period of time as an excuse to not achieve your 2020 goals. 2019 was a bitch for many of us. I'm 'preparing' to pivot today.

It doesn't mean I will, it just means that I'm not reacting to something out of my control and readjusting to what I can control.

What will you do?

DAY #3 - Where is your business weak? If there's any time those weaknesses are going to present themselves, it's going to be in a business environment where the marketplace is contracting.

Where you thought you had plugged all the holes in the boat, you'll quickly see where water is sprinkling in. So...where is your business weak? Systems? Leadership? Marketing? Sales? People? Processes?

Instead of looking at this period of time as a 'drag', why not look at it as an opportunity to take your business to the next level?

This period of time will show you where all the holes are leaking and then it's up to you to notice and then take action to fix the boat...instead of plugging it.

Don't make this HUGE marketing mistake right now...RETRACT.

That's literally the worst thing you can do. Everything around you is retracting and slowing down. All the momentum that you have been building is coming to a grind halt AND IT DOESN'T HAVE TO.

What I'm doing is redirecting that energy into BEING OF SERVICE. Instead of me pounding my fists in sand and letting this energy consume me I'm showing up with 10% more effort and I've even asked my team members to do that with me.

This is an AMAZING opportunity to refocus your efforts and be of service to your existing clients. Check in with them. Talk to them.

Provide them with something of service that you might not have ever done before.

Your clients are the reason you live the life you do, so reward them for it. No agenda. Just be of service and bring POSITIVITY to their lives.

I have definitely been guilty of slithering into my cupboard and eating s*** that isn't good for me, so that means I'm doubling down on my workouts! Two apps that have helped me get my living room workout going. Muscle Booster - Downloaded this from IG. Simple workouts. Easy to use and cool little tabata workout series.

Also, CorePower On Demand. I started doing hot yoga everyday for the past 3 weeks, so now I'm having to PIVOT to doing 'home' yoga. Tons of different classes for all different levels. Get your yoga on and relieve some of that stress!

Are you reacting or responding to the climate, right now? And I'm not talking about going out and getting groceries, etc., I mean what actions are you taking to MAINTAIN and GROW your businesses?

For some people, their reaction is to 'pull back' and 'preserve' their efforts so that they can brave the storm and hope for the best. It's a reaction. Furthermore, what knock on effect does that have in your business and every other business around you. Your family? Your friends?

A reaction is a survival instinct that you've probably been carrying around with you, your entire life. However, what if instead of reacting to the climate, you 'RESPONDED' to the market? How would you ACTIONS be different? Write them down side by side. Do you even know the difference? A reaction is quick and without thought, it's instinctual.

A response is thought through and comes from a place of calmness and levity. What choice will you make?

However, what are you doing to make that a reality? I'm hearing quite a few conversations of my friends and peers who aren't really keeping their tools sharp.

This is an unprecedented opportunity to gain a competitive advantage in ALL AREAS of life. It doesn't just have to be in business. It could mean being a better husband or father, friend or mentor.

Choose to keep your tools sharp and you'll come out on top.

Did you leave your s**t at the door or is it still on the bottom of your shoes?

I was very close to ruining a new business relationship because on some level I was bringing negative emotions to the table that were NOT relevant to that present moment.

We are a mirror of the interactions we have in our lives, so it would be easy to point the finger and say ‘well…he had an attitude, too’.

There’s no doubt that quarantine is bringing up a more intense look at all the areas we need to address, but how do we examine what needs to be addressed?

Here’s a tip…If you can’t find it…just look for any area in your life right now that’s making you feel uncomfortable.

For me, I brought s**t to the table that wasn’t pertinent to that moment in time and I’ve been guilt of doing that in many types of relationships both professional, romantic and personal.

So, the next conflict you get into…whether it’s your husband or wife, significant other, business partner, client, prospects, kids, whatever…ask yourself… “Did I leave my s**t at the door…or am I stepping it all over the living room floor?”

Clearly there's a lot of uncertainly and doubt in the air right now, so instead of adding to it, I want to spend the next 3 weeks giving you guys as much great information as possible to help you better prepare for your business, so that when everything is more stable, you will rise better and stronger than before.

In times of panic, the obvious move is to fall back into survival mode and slow everything down. What has that ever done for you? For a split second, I caught myself saying "I'm going to take a few days and just chill" WTF?
Why?

That's exactly the opposite of what we should be doing. I'm not saying that we should take the correct measures of safety for our friends and families, but if our minds are tuned into thriving and opposed to survival, then there's no alternative, but to use this period of time as a place to recenter, connect and get ready to destroy it when we society bounces back.

Get out of your own way!

Never before in the history of time have we had such an amazing opportunity to gain our audiences attention. Yet, so many of us are crippled by the fear of getting in front of our audiences.

Today, if we want to make an impact then 'anonymity' isn't an option.

In fact, the more anonymous you are, the less relevant you will become.

That feeling, thought, reflection, insight, advice that you are sitting on, could change someones day or even their life. And because of YOUR limitation, you are killing the possibility of that ever landing on your audience.

In fact, the way we judge ourselves is an amazing pressure test to see what we value. Do we value or looks or the way we sound over the beautiful messages that we could give people?

I'm not saying that it's not important to look and feel great, but at what cost?

I personally know there are people that will be watching this who are BADASSES...BUT THEY HIDE behind the camera because their limitations are more powerful.

Let that message reach your audience. It's never going to do anyone good if you hide it behind your limitations.
