For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; NO GOOD THING will He WITHHOLD from those who WALK UPRIGHTLY.

Psalms 84:11 (Emphasis added)

Is God withholding something from you? For many years I struggled with why I was not getting where or what I wanted. Sometime in there I memorized this verse, and it came back to me again and again. He will withhold no good thing if I am walking uprightly.

Whatever that thing is that you feel is good, that you believe is good, yet wonder like I did, remember this. If he’s withholding it, it must not be good for you…at least not right now. In the waiting and in the wondering, we must be faithful to the call to walk uprightly even when we don’t understand.

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD grants grace and favor; the LORD will not withhold any good thing from those who walk blamelessly.

Several years ago I started buying raw local honey in glass jars. The last of this batch has crystallized and I’m hearing it up before transferring to another container. It’s a whole new process to me. My only previous experience with hearing honey was small jars in the microwave, but these gallons have kept so well I’ve just used them straight to the bottom.

Any tips or tricks of keeping honey?

Also, local friends….where can I get more?

I found an envelope of paint swatches from when we repainted our last house while I was cleaning today. It makes me so happy to see all these beautiful tones.

Deciding on paint colors is probably the most stressful thing about renovations for me. While on one hand I love painting, so repainting a room isn’t a problem, finding the color in my head is.

With this house I’m finding many of the colors I used at our last house look totally different. Or look good in the stairwell but not the entry. Light is everything and boy does it make these things tricky.

The color I LOVED in our bedrooms two houses ago and our basement at the last house just didn’t feel right here….and that makes me a bit sad.

What are your experiences with paint colors?

To say I am loving all the blues is an understatement! This years wrapping paper selections did not disappoint!

Chicken Coop Before and After

Chickens need regular light to maintain proper laying routines. Before we locked them in for the dead of winter it was necessary to remedy this problem in our new coop. Today I installed some old wooden windows I had picked up for free several years ago.

What a difference!!

Next spring we’ll plan for a good cleaning and some fresh paint (and a few bonfires 🔥) with some faux lanterns by the front door and she’ll be darling!

Coming Soon!! A little teaser for a project I’ve been working on quite awhile. Available December 1st!

Finally unpacking the blue and white vintage dishes after months of storage. Something so simple, yet makes me so happy!

Yesterday I put up a wooden swing in one of the big maple trees near our house. The fall weather is absolutely beautiful, and I am happy the warm temperatures are hanging on for now.

My one child may think 60’s is tank top and short weather 😆

The before and after from a side view.

We originally thought the stairs would need to extend an extra step further into this room, but after some measuring we realized they didn’t have too 👏

The main level bathroom is all torn up now. We have discovered several layers of ceiling and flooring. Clearly this area of the house has been renovated many times over the years.

Looking a little different than it did this morning…

Tomorrow our stairway will begin its journey into a beautiful open staircase.

While it won’t be completely finished for quite some time, it’s going to be an exciting addition to the house.

I love little kitchen stairs and hate to see these go, but they are the only way upstairs and are in need of repair. Several treads are badly cracked (you can see through the one) and it’s quite steep.

Head up to stories to see the draw-up and inspo for the new stairs.

Just in time for my favorite month…October.

In stories I’m sharing some before and after pictures of the upstairs bathroom.

Everything in this bathroom was in good condition, the color pallet just wasn’t my style.

Since the tub is tan vanity, mirror, and towel bar were painted a similar color I chose to use that as my accent color and incorporated it in the shower curtain too!

I still have more visions for this space but need to wait until I find the right vintage pieces to finish it off.

Paint: left over from our old house
Shower Curtain: $25 at TJ Max
Shower Liner: $8 at TJ Max
Art: $2 (part of a $10 6 piece set from Hobby Lobby)
Rug: $5 from Menards

Total refresh: $40

Everything else was already there or pulled from things we already had.

I finished painting the second bathroom. Now it’s time to select which rug and shower curtain will work best for the finishing touches.

New Post On the Blog!

Prior to life going an unplanned direction I had been posting on the blog every Friday. I have been itching to get back at it again.

This recipe is one you won’t want to miss!

Each year I try to make gourmet apples with the kids. It’s a tradition that dates back to my aunt and all of the sweet goodies we made together when I was a teen.

Do you make caramel apples from scratch?

The first vignette in the basement bathroom is complete.

I repurposed the medicine cabinet that was above the sink and added some jars to hold cotton balls and Qtips. The bird art was part of 6 piece set that I picked up 90% off at Hobby Lobby this summer for $10!!

I would still like to find something more for the top of the cabinet, maybe even a more droopy plant, but this Walmart clearance succulent works for now.

Not bad for a $15 upgrade!!

Cabinet $0
Jars $9
Pictures $4
Succulent $0.50
Paint leftover from another project

Last night I put together a little basement bathroom inspo board.

The faucet and toilet paper rod are both ceramic and silver, but unfortunately I broke one of the ceramic pieces to the towel rod trying to get it off the wall. I was planning to get new towel rods anyway, since I'd like to put them in several places, and have chosen an antique brass to go through the house based on what was already here for rods and doorknobs. The brass will also ad some warmth in the cool toned room.

I've heard to not be afraid to mix metals, so we're going to try it!

Above the sink I am planning to put an antique mirror I purchased several years ago. It never was used at the old house because the joints on the wooden frame are coming apart and I never took the time to glue them back together. It's lost somewhere in the piles from the move, but once I find it I'll work on putting it back together. I think a little natural wood will be just the right touch.

Before and after on the basement bathroom paint color. I chose this blue tone (lightest of the 3 options) because this room is small and the light is so bad in here. However, I think the dark color adds a little more elegance over the baby blue. Fresh paint always feels good..

At some point, I’ll need to go through and repaint all of the white bead board and I still need to find some new towel rods and fixtures, but it’s come a long way on the past 24 hours!

Color is Van Courtland Blue by Benjamin Moore

I have not done any baking in probably two months as I packed and unpacked the move. Tonight it’s cinnamon rolls and cinnamon twist with maple syrup glaze. 😋

Look at our amazing discovery! It appears our property has a second well with a working hand pump. I couldn’t be more ‘pumped’ about it.

Can you believe this was hidden under trees and behind a bunch of junk?!

Fall is upon us. Last weeks near ninety’s temperatures have been met with near freezing at night this week.

The leaves are crisp.

There’s a nip in the air, and I just set some pumpkins on our new front porch.

It’s only been about a week, but there are so many feels of home. We are going to love it here!
