Happy Birthday, Elvin Jones!
Elvin Ray Jones (Sep 9, 1927 – May 18, 2004) was an American jazz drummer of the post-bop era. He moved to New York City in 1955 and worked as a sideman for Charles Mingus, Teddy Charles, Bud Powell and Miles Davis. From 1960 to 1966 he was a member of the John Coltrane quartet (along with Jimmy Garrison and McCoy Tyner), a celebrated recording phase, appearing on such albums as A Love Supreme and Live at Birdland. Following his work with Coltrane, Jones led several small groups, some under the name The Elvin Jones Jazz Machine. His brothers Hank Jones and Thad Jones were also jazz musicians with whom he recorded. He was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1995.

Happy birthday to the great Hank Jones!
Henry Jones Jr. (July 31, 1918 – May 16, 2010), best known as Hank Jones, was an American jazz pianist, bandleader, arranger, and composer. In 1989, The National Endowment for the Arts honored him with the NEA Jazz Masters Award.
Today, we would celebrate the birthday of Hank Jones! Great jazz pianist, he played with jazz personalities such as Earl "Bud" Powell, Andy Kirk or Billy Eskisine. He was the accompanist of Ella Fitzgerald for a long time. He has been a part of big events, like the day when Marilyn Monroe sang “Happy Birthday Mr President”, where he was the pianist accompanying her. At the end of his life, he became a jazz piano teacher in great universities such as Harvard.
He will remain in our memory and in the jazz history, forever.

Hank Jones with McCoy Tyner.
Did you know? In 2005, McCoy Tyner and Hank Jones received Honorary Doctorates from Berklee College of Music!
“When I look back at my musical history, I’m thankful for the opportunities I’ve had, and to have risen to the occasion. I like simplicity and balance, and I’m dedicated to music, but it doesn’t consume my every minute. I don’t need to be put on a pedestal to feel good. But I don’t downplay my contribution or creativity. I’m confident, but I don’t allow myself to feel I’m in command of everything. Confidence is a tool to get where you want to go. I feel I did the best I could. And I thought it was pretty good.” -McCoy Tyner
