I learned an important lesson today. NEVER FORGET TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST!
As a coach, people naturally come to me with stress, anxiety, sadness, pain, etc. I am a good listener and great advice dealer. However…
My OWN life is full of stress and anxiety right now and I’ve been in survival mode aka “fight or flight” for the past 4 years. Until about 20 months ago….I always practiced self love, recharged my batteries, took time for ME.
I have neglected that terribly. When I should have been concentrating on what MY body and soul needed, I escaped by helping others. I no longer practiced “clearing” the negative energy I pick up as a natural empath.
Don’t get me wrong, coaching and teaching people to love themselves and helping them through hard times is what I love the most and I’ll never stop. HOWEVER…
I teach people to love themselves and practice self-care and boundaries…all the while I wasn’t practicing what I preach.
I find it hard to say “no”.
I am challenged to keep hard boundaries when I’m exhausted.
I will help others before myself out of guilt and fear of making people upset with me or leaving them feel neglected.
These are MY challenges, my pitfalls, my struggles.
The result of my NOT practicing self care, which I know damn well how to do…is my stress levels are off the charts. I am struggling with crippling anxiety. I am full of angst about what my priorities are. I can’t concentrate. I either over sleep or suffer insomnia. I have multiple fibro flares. I can’t make even the simplest decisions without completely overthinking.
I’ve lost my “ balance”.
And today…my body completely shut down.
SO… since I’m at my best when I find a solution, I believe I’ve found it!
I need a couple of days to completely “check out”.
I have to shut everything and everyone out.
I need to take care of MYSELF FIRST.
That will entail:
Shutting off social media
Revamping my vitamin supplies and concentrating on Omegas, Vitamin D and B.
I will spend time in the sun.
My phone will be on Do Not Disturb.
I will limit my sugar and carb intake.
I will drink lots of water.
I will spend time being quiet with my pets.
I will NOT watch TV.
I will meditate, pray and sleep.
THEN:
I will create a plan and begin taking the steps to execute it.
The lesson is: you can’t give more than your overflow. You must fill your internal cup of energy BEFORE you give it away. You can’t help others until YOU have truly taken care of yourself. And when all the signs of mental, emotional and/or physical exhaustion are there…PAY ATTENTION to them and DO SOMETHING about it. An empty plate can feed no one. An empty cup quenches no one’s thirst.
Don’t forget to refill, recharge, re-energize and rest.
It’s NOT selfish to take care of YOU because in doing so, your overflow becomes abundant and THEN you can help others.

POWER is that which makes you, uniquely YOU.
The P.O.W.E.R. Steps are like a map, or steps to follow to discover or rediscover that POWER when you feel lost.
Women tend to give so much of themselves, to kids, partners, work, and at some point (where we are now in life), to our parents. We can lose ourselves, our POWER in the process.
If you’re feeling lost, depleted, empty or overwhelmed…you are NOT alone!

Letting go of negative things and people makes room for beautiful things to come into your life.
Life is like a garden. Remove the weeds and their roots. Make room for, and take care of, the plants. They will return the favor by feeding you. It’s a BEAUTIFUL cycle.
It really IS okay to have bad days. Just be sure to take one step forward. Start with making your bed, taking a shower, or putting ONE load of laundry in. Take a drive, put on some great music or watch a show that makes you laugh.
Today I was having one of these days and I literally forced myself to take a drive with my pup. Sounds ridiculous to some, but if you ever been there, you get it!
