We then had a little break before the first official course began, in which the waiters brought us home-baked bread with olive oil infused with lemon. Guys. This bread was the best bread I have ever tasted in my whole entire life…I’m still dreaming of the soft pillowy dough with the perfect outer crust. It was unbelievable and honestly I’d happily pay 300 again just for the bread – it was *that* good! The recipe is apparently a family recipe from Mirazur’s Italian-Argentinian Chef, Mauro Colagreco, and accompanying it is a very cute poem dedicated to bread.
We then moved on to the divine crispy duck salad which is one of my favourite Hakkasan dishes of all time! The only slight negative with this one was the lack of pomegranate seeds which usually come with it in the restaurant.
Next up we enjoyed two stir-fry beef dishes; the Stir-fry rib eye beef with lily bulb in black bean sauce, and the Stir-fry black pepper rib eye beef with Merlot.
We decided to share dessert because there wasn’t really anything Keto friendly (very, very few desserts are Keto friendly), so we had the Chocolate Hazelnut and Mandarin, and Edd had a glass of Mas Amiel to accompany it. I had a tiny half-spoonful of the dessert and it was absolutely heavenly. Edd took one for the team and polished off the entire plate while I continued to pour my croaky/bunged up heart out to him. We’ve been boy-girl best friends now for almost eight years and I would definitely be lost without him and his man advice (basically every bit of advice he gives me is just “Forget him, he doesn’t deserve you!” which is great but also slightly useless).
For our main course we chose a glass of red wine each, with the Beef Wellington to share. A 35-day Aged Scotch fillet with truffle jus arrived, along with the creamiest truffled mash, and glazed carrots!

After a short break to let our main course go down, we chose our desserts. Nicole opted for the delicious Île Flotante, a Floating island with Vanilla Anglais, soft toffee and toasted almonds.

Although I didn’t really need to use the staff much, when I did they were wonderful and really helpful. I enthusiastically arrived a little too early and my room wasn’t ready yet, so they gave me a free wifi password and showed me upstairs to the casual dining restaurant and bar where I could relax and wait. They even gave me a free drink voucher to use while I was waiting! I obviously went all out with this and had a peppermint tea…
As well as Shang Palace the hotel also have a two-Michelin starred restaurant, and the more relaxed breakfast room where a huge buffet breakfast is laid out. I was really impressed with the breakfast and it was actually one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve ever had. They also do a la carte, and so the first morning I chose an omelette (which was literally the most perfect omelette I have ever had in my life), and the second morning I opted for the french toast (which I decorated with berries and apricot jam and greek yoghurt from the buffet).
