Essential oils for kids

Essential oils are pretty amazing for everyone, especially for kids. You do have to be careful with the quality of oils, always use a good quality well known oil, especially if you are using them on the skin, only do this if it’s been diluted with coconut oil. It is safer to diffuse them in the air.

It is also good to perhaps not use essential oils for babies under 3 months of age.

What can essential oils help with?

Sleep - lavender can be a great sleep aid.
Nasal congestion - peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil
Colds and flus - eucalyptus oil
Focus and clarity - lemon oil
Teething - lavender oil and copaiba oil
Cuts or burns - lavender oil, tea tree oil, aloe Vera oil
Mood - tangerine oil or orange oil
Anxiety - lavender oil, lemongrass oil, lemon oil, onguard (doterra blend), tangerine oil, orange oil
Peppermint - can have bring down a high temp/fever if it’s been persistent for a bit

If anyone needs any recommendations for anything, let me know.

Again, as always be careful with essential oils. Use good quality oils and for kids mostly use a carrier oil.

Back to school

Just a reminder that your little one may be dealing with some back to school anxiety.

This may look different for many. Some may get very quiet or upset, angry or frustrated. They may not want to talk about school or that is perhaps all they talk about.

Try your best to listen to everything they say and not to brush of their worries. Reassure them as best you can.

Make sure you have a routine in place, starting now before they get back to school.
- Uniforms, shoes, bags, stationary, lunchbox etc ready
- Start bedtime routine
- Ensure they are up earlier, nearer to the time they get ready for school
- Let them choose their break and lunch, let them have some independence
- If your child needs to get a bus, perhaps take them that route, if known so they know what to expect
- Reassure them that yes it might be scary, with everything being new but that it will be exciting make new friends or seeing their friends again from last year

Equip them with some strategies, if they become very overwhelmed. This may include
- breathing techniques (star breathing or finger breathing)
- EFT tapping is amazing for kids (check out the slides to see the format for this)
- Marching on the step using arms and legs helps settle the nervous system down
- Go for a little run around the kitchen or outside, helps get rid of some adrenaline
- Let them use a worry stone or crystal, they can tell the stone or crystal their worries before they go to bed or school
- Let them take a small comfort with them if they want it, even if they have a small heart, let them kiss one side and you kiss the other, so that you can be with them throughout the day, through the small heart
- Affirmations- I am safe, I am happy, I am excited, I am relaxed

Listen to their little worries, be patient and understanding.

Kids 1:1 or small group sessions.

Does your child/ children suffer from anxiety? Stress? Overthinking? Worry?

I am now offering 1:1 or 2:1 or even 3:1 sessions for children who don’t like to be part of a workshop/ big group environment.

I will make it as fun as possible with the aim of learning them all the new techniques for wellness and mental health.

It is crucial every child should have easy and accessible techniques at home, to help them. We want these to be used throughout their lives, but we need to start at the beginning and actually teach them.

Fidget toys

Fidget toy queen 👸 here 😂

When kids come into clinic they love the fidget toys, so I decided to get some more, as I could tell they were getting a bit bored with the ones I had.

Fidget toys promote creativity, encourage recognition and differentiation of colors, shapes, and textures, and improve visual integration. Fidget toys can be a great self-regulating tool as they can have a calming effect. Namely, studies have shown that fidgets can reduce stress and anxiety.

So encourage kids to use these toys, some think they may be a distraction and off course at some stages they will be, but look at the context of the situation and what’s going on, could they help in the long run? Usually yes!

Finally!

Summer scheme dates and locations to be announced soon. Keep your eyes peeled.

The classes will run across 2 days and be for 1.5hours and split into 2 age groups. 4-7 and 8-11.

The kids will enjoy some arts and crafts, games, yoga and different movements for self regulating and many tips and tricks to help them ease their stresses and worries.

Each child will come away with a wellness pack and a snack.

This is open for all kids, so please get in touch with any queries.

I Am Me Workshops are for kids in the Mid Ulster and surrounding areas.

I have decided to formally name my well-being
workshops for kids 'I Am Me’

I want every child to know it is ok to be themselves,
no matter their emotions, thoughts and feelings.
Hence the name I am me, as it is ok to be just who
you are, you!

My workshops entails years of research and hard
work, working with kids. Helping them recognise and understand their emotions, thoughts and feelings and teaching them to use simple techniques to help them deal with their big emotions. We do this through play, fun, games, arts and crafts and much more. The unique techniques I have learned from my Kinesiology training give kids a different idea of well-being and how crucial it actually is.

I am looking forward to meeting you all soon.
