Ferdinand is in search of a new home after being abandoned in a hallway by his previous owner. We do believe that in the eye that he does have, he is almost blind and can only see shadows. This does not stop him from being a total love bug nor does it slow him down at all! His sense of smell is amazing and that’s how he finds his people 🙂 He does need some time to warm up, but once he knows someone, he loves them! We believe he is a mastiff mix and around 2-3 years old. If you’re interested in meeting or adopting Ferdinand please call Lackawanna Animal Control at 716-827-6412 or message me on here!

Little Miss Honey is still Available for adoption! Honey’s bio:

Honey was left after a house fire and taken in by a family member who soon realized they couldn’t really care for her so she ended up in our care as an owner surrender. She is an approximate 6 month old boxer/pit mix with the cutest little underbite and ears to die for. She is a little unsure about the world but warms up quickly to new people and surroundings but will thrive in a home that can help her blossom into the confident little dog we know she can be. Like most puppies, she does have quite a bit of energy and would make a fantastic adventure dog! Having a rough start to life has not stopped her from being a total love bug. She loves nothing more than to cuddle up with her humans and can be quite the little Velcro pup. Since she came to us as an owner surrender we don’t know too much about her background. What we do know that she is good with cats, dogs, and kids though! Sweet Honey is such a gem of a dog and deserves great humans to call her own ❤️

If you’re interested in adopting Honey please call Lackawanna Animal Control at 716-827-6412 or send me a message on here! All potential adopters will be screened to ensure that Honey goes to the best home possible.

This is Ice and he was adopted from the a few months I remember meeting him at the shelter, he was a little skinny, had some skin issues going on, he was sooo sweet but a little reserved. Fast forward about a month after his adoption and his new owners reached out to see if I could help them with walking him a little more calmly (he would get super pumped when he’d see other dogs- not in an aggressive way but an overly friendly, Ned Flanders type of way). He was a little more open, looking a little bit bulkier, and his skin issues were starting to clear up. It was then that I realized he was in great hands! This week I’m watching Ice for his owners and he looks and acts like a totally different dog and has had quite the glow up! His owners are doing a wonderful job with him, and most importantly, they make him feel safe. Which at the end of the day, is one of the best things you can do for a shelter dog who may have not had the best past. Ice is the perfect example of a success story and there are so many more shelter pets out there that could use a good success story! If you are looking for a new pet in the future, please consider checking out the !

When getting a puppy, I think one of the most important things that you can do (besides training, of course!) is teaching your puppy independence. Allowing them to learn that you will not be readily available to entertain them every second of the day. No, I do not mean leaving them unsupervised. Please, for the love of god, do not leave your puppy unsupervised. So how do you teach a young puppy independence?
1. Crate training! There are so many benefits to crate training but especially for puppies, it teaches them that they have a safe space to relax in. Just like we have beds, we want puppies to realize that a crate is their comfort spot, a place to relax and settle down in. As a reminder, a crate should NEVER be used as a punishment.
2. Teaching them the place command. The place command is self soothing to dogs and similar to the crate, it teaches them how to settle down and relax. It also shows them that they can’t have access to you at all times even if you are a foot away from them.
3. Treat puzzles and other interactive games. Giving these to your puppies helps teach them how to entertain themselves with minimal guidance from their humans.
4. And this one is the hardest- ignoring them. And, again, I don’t mean ignoring them getting into things or leaving them unsupervised. When they are trying to get you to engage with them every second of the day, take some time to ignore them and don’t give in to their demands. It shows them that you aren’t going to play with them all the time and they need to entertain themselves. You can also redirect or give them something to do like a nylabone or a kong in these moments.

Some other benefits of teaching puppies these independence activities can also help prevent separation anxiety, teach puppies how to self soothe, and improve their cognition.

Krueger has been home for three weeks and we have been working hard on teaching him independence and it is starting to pay off! Here he is relaxing on place while I am doing some work nearby. If you have a puppy, do yourself a favor and start working on that independence with them. You’ll thank yourself later if you do!

Well now that it’s official, I’d like to introduce y’all to the newest addition to the Cait’s Canines and Co family, Krueger! 🖤 My dream was to always own a malinois (I know, I know, I’m crazy 😆) and that dream has finally came true. Want to know something even crazier? He was adopted from the ! So yes, you can find your dream dog at a rescue or shelter! And no, this is not to bash breeders as I am all for responsible breeders. This is for the people that want to adopt but don’t think they can find the right dog at a shelter or rescue because Krue is living proof of that. So please don’t give up! 😊 I’m excited for this new journey and I look forward to sharing training updates with everyone along the way!

Spent the week hanging out with this guy. My oldest client, my client before Cait’s Canines was even a concept in my mind. I’ve known this boy from puppyhood, it’s crazy to think that I’ve known him about as long as I knew my own dog. I’m so grateful to his mom .wolie for allowing me to watch him over the years. This may seem like it’s supposed to be a sappy post, and it is, but also I really just wanted y’all to see how handsome he is. 😍

Does your dog need training but you don’t know where or what to start? We offer one hour consultations and during this time we will come up with the best training program custom tailored to not only your pet, but for you as well. Training isn’t a one size fits all and we take the hassle out of finding the right training program for your dog. At Cait’s Canines and Company, we don’t believe in slapping a bandaid over the issues with a simple fix, we will work on changing what needs to be changed and focusing on fixing the problem no matter how hard or easy it may be. Like humans, dogs do better when they feel better and we will do whatever we can to make that possible. After all, our slogan is “striving to help owners and pets live their best lives together” and we really mean that. For more information on our training programs, please visit our website!

*disclaimer: our consultations will not be conducted by our general manager, Aurora (pictured above). Her solution to all problems would be to double up the treats and call it a day. While she’s great at being a manager, she is not great at being a trainer. If you absolutely insist that she does the consultation, we cannot take responsibility for her actions and there will be no refunds.

Let’s get this sweet boy a foster, shelter life is stressing him out and he is starting to shut down 💔

15/08/2023

This adorable little meatball is Harrison and he is a rescue from the but was ultimately a foster fail (I mean, can you blame his owners?!) through . He is here for a couple of weeks while his family is on vacation to work on his manners and his over arousal in situations. Like the movie, when he gets excited, his brain seems to be gone in 60 seconds and he doesn’t always seem to make the best decisions when this happens. For the next couple of weeks, we will be working on his coping skills and how to make better decisions in these moments but also working on finding the best calming techniques to ultimately try to prevent these situations all together. Focusing on enrichment specifically catered to him, teaching him pressure to get him to settle down, removing himself from situations that will get him over excited instead of turning into an instant mosher at a metal concert, the place command to settle his brain down, and much more. Harrison will go from a rowdy teenager to a distinguished gentleman in no time!

Like Harrison, if your dog is from the shelter and you’re thinking about training, I offer an all the time 20 percent discount to any CBAS shelter alumni. And that’s not just for training, that is for all of my services! Is your dog not from the shelter but a recent rescue (under 6 months of rescuing)? I also offer 20 percent off of training to get them started off on the right foot in their new home! For more information on training, check out my training page: https://www.caitscaninesandco.com/training

I had the pleasure of watching this guy the past couple of days while his foster mom was away. Ralph is a 5 year old pitty from the and he’s available for adoption. He’s the sweetest, most loving boy and loves to be with his people. He’s currently working through some separation anxiety but his foster mom is doing an excellent job working with him on it. He’s also great with other dogs and cats! He’s incredibly smart and he LOVES to use his nose. He’s a pretty chill guy and enjoys curling up on the couch with you. If Netflix and chill is still a thing then Ralph is the guy for you! Also, it’s quite a bonus to be able to say “Ralphie, come back!” instead of a boring “come” command when you need to recall him 😉 for more information on Ralph or if you are interested in adopting him, reach out to his foster mom or check him out here: https://www.petfinder.com/dog/the-ralph-50175404/ny/buffalo/city-of-buffalo-animal-shelter-ny341/

This adorable little Lady is Kiwi. She’s a 5 month old mini Aussie and a bit of a wild child. For the next few weeks we will be working on her manners, turning her from a wild child to a respectful young lady. Not only that but we are working on her overall well-being, giving her owners the tools they need to give Kiwi the best life possible. After all, training is not just obedience. Successful training includes looking at every aspect of a dog’s life and improving it. Just like with humans, we do better when we feel better, and dogs are no exception. A good training session should include enrichment, play, and, of course, training (especially with puppies)! I’m so excited to watch this little lady grow these next few weeks and I will do my absolute very best to not steal her in the process 😜

Hi, I’m Cait and I am the owner of Cait’s Canines and Company. I started this company with one thing in mind: how can I improve the relationship between humans and their pets? First, I understand that every human and animal are individuals and all have different needs and should be treated that way. I strive to focus on each person and their pets individual needs no matter what they may be. Offering dog training, specialty dog walking, pet sitting, and more, there is sure to be something for everyone!

I have been an animal lover my entire life and growing up I had dogs, cats, hamsters, Guinea pigs, and more. I have been professionally working with animals for the past 10 years doing a variety of different things such as training, dog walking, pet sitting, enrichment, and dog grooming so I have basically dabbled in a little bit of everything and I love it all the same. When taking care of your pets, they will be treated like they are my own and you will never have to worry if your pet is in good hands when they are with me. I have taken CPR/First aid classes, as well as nutrition classes and in my free time, I am constantly finding ways to expand my knowledge on everything pet related.

A huge part of my heart lies in rescue and I have fostered numerous dogs. Over the past couple of years, I have worked with the City Of Buffalo Animal Shelter and I hope to continue to work with them for many years to come. The amazing volunteers at the shelter have truly inspired me to want to help as many of these dogs as possible.

At my last job, as a trainer, I worked with some pretty difficult dogs. From resource guarding to dog socialization, I have worked with pretty much every type of behavioral issue out there. While working with these dogs, I realized that the harder dogs were always my favorite. The fulfillment I got out of working with these dogs and knowing that I made such a huge difference to not only the dog but to their owners too is something that I can’t even put into words.

In my spare time I enjoy hiking with my dogs, painting, reading, amateur photography, & Buffalo History.

I am so excited for this new journey and I hope that you will join me! 🙂
