Along with graduate workers across the country, we're calling for an end to police terror & white supremacy. We demand our universities cut ties with police departments. New York University must end its relationship with the NYPD! International and undocumented graduate students and workers are in a particularly precarious position during this crisis. TOMORROW join us for a day of action to support them. We know that , and that

TAKE ACTION TODAY FOR TUITION REFUNDS & DEADLINE EXTENSIONS!

We call on New York University to:
1) Refund all tuition & fees. Students have lost access to facilities & income, and face a frozen job market. Plus, education is a public good & should be free.
2) Offer all students the option to postpone or extend any program deadlines (UG/master's thesis, qualifying exams, proposal and dissertation submissions and defenses, etc.). Students who opt in to extensions should not be charged any additional tuition or fees
3) Ensure that no student will bear the cost of cancelled conferences or other academic events. Unless the student has been reimbursed by other agencies, NYU must reimburse any expenditure on conference registration, travel, and/or accommodations.

Our coalition, consisting of undergraduate, graduate, departmental, and faculty organizations, is fighting for a just response for everyone in the NYU community. See our full demands here.

Under the Universal Pass model, students would receive a “Pass” on their transcript and credit for all courses in which they are currently enrolled; these would count toward requirements in the same way as a letter grade, including but not limited to requirements for majors/programs, course distribution, graduation, scholarships, and visas. NYU must attach a letter to all official transcripts explaining the context for the Pass grade. In doing so, the establishment of this model would recognize the fact that students’ ability to demonstrate their learning has been compromised by the COVID-19 crisis.
