ICYMI, here are a few ways in which women are STILL objectified – and why it’s harmful:

1. Society and media still believe that women are “something to be vied for” - In essence, women operate as empty vessels for men/elders/society to project their wants and needs.

2. Gender roles in school are still heavy encouraged and pushed forth - This is a big reason why so many men take rejection harshly. They feel like a failure because their role is to “be proactive and pursue women”, and when they’re told, “no,” it’s a “rejection of their manhood”.

3. Cis-het language and pronouns discourage people to be anything other than what their gender roles prescribe - a woman/girl or a man/boy, essentially taking away any other sexual or gender identities that might want to be expressed! This cis-het language also excludes intersex, non-binary, agender, and transgender people – along with many groups and people – from the conversation.

4. Men are encouraged to believe that “women are their property” - It creates a lack of empathy for women because they have been reduced to plot devices, objects, and extensions of somebody else, placing their possession over their value.
