The blue Devil bass club anglers had to brave some really cold and windy weather and also try to catch some fish! The first club tournament was on Lake Guntersville this past Saturday. Mikey Combs and Garrett Amerson finished second place overall and earned extra points for catching the big fish of the tournament. Kohen Rozier and Tate Kerce were able to earn fifth place in the tournament. Congratulations to all who participated and simply made it through the day. The next tournament is on Nicajack on March 9.

The blue devil BassClub finished strong in our final tournament of the 2023 season yesterday on Weiss lake. Six teams BDBC competed against several teams from Trion, Chattooga, and Northwest Whitfield. Our top finishers were Maddox Wilbanks and Jordan Evans who finished in 5th place. Because of our great sponsors we were able to celebrate our seniors with an End of the season hotdog supper. We truly appreciate all our sponsors:

It was a beautiful day on Lake Hartwell for the GHSA QUALIFIER #4. Almost 200 boats were present for competition. Landon Carroll and Bo Couch fished hard ALL day. They had a great time but couldn’t find the big ones. Both boys caught fish. At the end of the day they weighed in 4 fish for 4.9 pounds. I can’t thank our administration AND our sponsors enough for making this opportunity available to these boys.

Can you say WINDY!!!! That description does not do justice to the conditions on Nickajack today. I have lived through hurricanes in Orlando, FL that reminded me of the winds today. Despite the tough conditions the Blue Devils tried their best and fished hard, and stayed SAFE, until the end. (1) Model Boat weighed in fish. Callan WILBANKS caught a 3 pound Largemouth, and Bo Couch weighed in a .9 spotted Bass. Owen Fincher and Maddox WILBANKS caught fish but according to the TVA those fish don’t quite cut it. (2) Rescues happened. One boat broke down and had to be towed across “rough seas” to get back to the ramp. Another had a flat trailer tire on the way home. What an ADVENTURE!!! (3) Did I say the winds were like hurricane conditions today? (4) BDBC teams were able to show up and compete today. Go Blue Devils!!!

The Blue Devil Bass Club had a great day on lake Guntersville yesterday. We had some first timers and some experienced anglers. The BDBC had 7 teams represented yesterday. As far as I know everybody weighed in fish. Thank you to Mountain Valley Youth Anglers for hosting. We are very proud of Adam Smith and Gavin Sapp for competing in GHSA qualifier #2 at Lake Oconee on Saturday. (2/18) Final results for the tournament are not in yet, but the boys fished hard all day and finished strong. There were over 250 boats competing. Thanks to boat captain Derick Smith for all his hard work making this trip a success for Adam and Gavin. The next tournament for our team is a Mountain Valley Youth Angler Tournament at Guntersville this weekend, 3/25 at Jackson County Park Boat Ramp.

It was a great way to end the season for our Blue Devil Bass Club anglers! A beautiful fishing day on Neely Henry, 2 teams placed top 10 for the day (Bradley & Landon- 7th & Adam & Gavin- 6th), and Adam & Gavin placed 4th in points for Anglers of the Year!!!! The team got to enjoy a meal together and end of season celebration goodies and prizes thanks to our sponsors: Sid Gowens with Farm Bureau, Tony Miller with First Bank, & Jeff Drinkard with Drinkard Engineering. A huge thank you to our boat captains for paving the path for our anglers! We will miss Bradley as he graduates this year… what a great leader & example he has been for our younger crew! Glad he received a cord for his fishing experience to wear on graduation day!!!!! See ya next year team!!!!!!

It was a cold and windy day of fishing on Weiss Lake this weekend. The wind and sleet 😳 made the conditions tough for fishing and BOATING. Many of us got wet while braving the “high seas” of Weiss Lake. Nevertheless, our Blue Devils worked hard and finished STRONG! See ya next time on April 30th at Nickajack! The Bass Team fished hard and braved the winds at Chickamauga Saturday. Knox Nolan was only a few ounces away from getting Big Fish of the tournament! Looking forward to our next tournament at Weiss Lake in 2 weeks.

1st Tournament of the 2022 season in the net! It was a cold one in Guntersville, but we came out strong. We placed 3rd with Gavin Sapp & Adam Smith bringing in 5 fish at 14.48 lbs! Bradley, Landon, Knox, & Kaleb joined the weigh in with some fish & finished top 10. Braden, Ava, and Miriam gave it a great effort… that’s why they call it fishin’ & not catchin’! Great day at Guntersville! Beautiful, caught fish, 4 out 7 boats weighed in, 6 out 7 caught fish, our smallest angler, Miriam Burnes, caught the biggest bass for Model (2.49 lbs), & Bo Couch caught the biggest fish (12 lb drum). Get ready for Chickamauga April 17th!

To all our anglers: have a safe day tomorrow and most of all have fun and bring five big Guntersville giants to the stage tomorrow! They’ll be using the stage for our weigh in tomorrow!
