Austin’s Ballad 09/01/2023

I’m not seeking sympathy, but last year was unfortunate for both my stepdad and myself. Austin, on his way home from work, was in a motorcycle accident which lost him the functionality of his arm. And I lost many of my keyboard recordings due to an iPhone mishap in which I forgot my passcode and hadn’t made a Windows backup. Go figure!!

Music is our lifelong healer, and blessed I’ve been to compose as a soloist in a way that’s never performative or contrived. If you can enjoy this music box styled homage to my stepdad, you might find my upcoming piano piece “Last Month of Summer” to be an even more cathartic listening experience…

Austin’s Ballad Onto composing the next piano piece following “Interstellar Waltzer” — my first in over a decade. And it might well have been flukey — had it gotten transcribed and performed on an actual piano!!! My

Or just do like I did and use the force… sure no musical understanding was gained from simply letting rip on guitar, but that’s what makes us cooler than cool. No tattoos needed!!

My cathartically improvised epic “Serendipity Breaking Loose” is testimony enough to what can come from within… once life has thrown you enough curveballs.

May you raise hell until your gallant ego death!

I wrote this book for everyone who dreams of understanding music and being able to enjoy creating it for themselves. I want you to know that there is nothing “wrong” with you if you haven’t yet found your path in music. All human beings are capable of imagining and creating beautiful music, and there is nothing stopping you from enjoying the thrill of creating your own music almost immediately. All you need is a little help visualizing the materials of your art so that you can begin to enjoy working with them.

You do not need to know anything at all about music theory to get started. All you need is an open mind and any instrument that produces musical notes (guitar, bass, piano, trumpet, saxophone, violin, etc.). You will begin improvising on the very first day, and you will use improvisation itself as your own personal vehicle to move around and explore our musical system. You will learn how to connect with and play from your musical imagination, where you will discover that you have an endless supply of beautiful, creative ideas. And you will learn to use a simple but powerful musical map to gradually build your own personal understanding of harmony.

Break Free 31/05/2022

"Break Free" is a late guitar/vocal improv to coincide with my unfinished guitar-voiced keyboard blueprint Believe from pre-2010. The latter, in all its , plus two bonus recordings, is now archived on Soundcloud (due to the unfortunate Myspace deletion disaster of 2018). Can you it's not (actual) guitar?! Well I always have possessed a rather peculiar way of expressing myself...

Ideally this would've been a Patreon post... alas I've no such fans yet (apparently only dead-end followers). As such I'm orchestrating my presence on Reddit. You can support my wholesome soup: https://lewisaquilina.bandcamp.com/album/day-alive-ep

Break Free Once again I'm having a dig through my past recording outtakes, and this one from 2014 aptly describes my burnout and descent ever since I involuntarily sold my soul to Soundcloud. A thousand follower

Somehow I never posted a picture of my acoustic guitar on this page. Here’s the beaut that I used for my soundcloud recordings. Vintage Sweetwater.

I’m actually considering deleting this page soon, as lo and behold, my profile is more proficient.

Well I never advertised it, but I did participate in a charitable Zoom concert in solidarity with Ukraine yesterday. I’m waiting on the event organiser to upload the programme so I can proudly share my definitively finished “Interstellar Waltzer”. It was such a mad rush to get it done in time, while recording it next to a very busy road!! 🎹👨‍🎤🎸

21/03/2022

The first draft of Interstellar Waltzer. It was kindly notated by a Redditor on my behalf (since I am completely inept in this department). The definitively final version of my piece (with an extended intro) is now ready to be recorded! And if I’m lucky someone will oversee the sheet music’s completion. But maybe that someone will have to be me at some point… 🤔

Interstellar Waltzer [transposed] 15/03/2022

So I’ve posted several takes of my recent , and am set to partake in a live Zoom concert soon that‘ll be in (probably without the awesome ). 😎 Hopefully I’ll be able to capture the performance in high quality, since I’m still compelled to refine this passion project of mine! Instinctive here (classically trained not). 👌

It might seem that in this entourage I’ve been unfortunate and reclusive, being an unlisted of visceral guitar impressions, amiss making any famous cover songs (probably to my detriment). Yet I’m faithful that my work, once availed properly on streaming platforms (albeit rerecorded), won’t be glossed over like cannon fodder forevermore‼️

This week I’ll be recording my finished piece for piano “Interstellar Waltzer” in hq. Like all my music, it’ll be a social media exclusive… for now.

In a galaxy far, far away… I will be sharing this weekend the best take yet of my piano piece “Interstellar Waltzer”. I’ve not been done improving it till now, with the current war spurring me on. So miss this instinctive composition at your peril! ✌️

Interstellar Waltzer [transposed] 12/02/2022

It's been 10 years since my piano short “Above the Clouds”, which I made as a dBs Music tech student, and I suppose this could be its spiritual successor. This piece took me at least a month to instinctively compose.

New Years '22 #piano solo in Eb major 08/01/2022

Enter 2022. So I traded my guitar in for this piano solo original. Just shoot me. It’s as special as it gets. And a heads up—I’m working on a higher quality version right now. It’s not the real piano version just yet. In the meantime, please have a listen. Thank you.

That was of course Christmas Day, and rather excitingly the JWST sun shield has successfully deployed so far. 🤞 Anyhow just letting out that I’ve really been brushing up on my keyboard skills lately and have a piano solo that’s hot in the works for New Years! It’s going to be a mad rush to finalise and record it on my, err, intergalactic walkie talkie weblink (Santa still didn’t get me a mic). A delightful celebration it will be!

https://soundcloud.com/lewis_lo-fi/serendipity-breaking-loose “No decent man or woman seeks a relationship built on cynical foundations, so under healthy conditions get gloriously creative and create mayhem." A proverb I thought up while melding together two juxtaposing recordings that I just so happened to conceive immediately after the other, and at that. I think my guardian angel helped me see it through. Should you still believe in magic then you may choose to recognise this as my obscured magnum opus from 2010.

As a novice guitarist, I had fortuitously improvised & one-take recorded my best solo guitar material circa 2010, while unironically being confined to a dictaphone—with calm before the storm “Serendipity Breaking Loose” being my most notable acoustic performance.

Rather candidly, I took a leap of faith by democratically promoting my artless SoundCloud exclusives unto Facebook—via successive Events. And with the prophetically entitled “Blindside” becoming my third and last Event release, it could be said that my self-expressed praxis had seemingly foreshadowed the EU referendum that was yet to come… the one Stoic difference being that I actually ascertained my democratic leadership per se (unlike them shambolic “Remoaners” of Brexit).

This experimental process had entailed a collective of some 200 Facebook Friends to begin with… and with the people, as it were, appearing reticent towards my proposed collation of yet another rough and ready release, in this whole “art vs entertainment” conundrum, my hard work was deemed ephemerally finished (if not cancelled!).

Though in hindsight it was a smokescreen — instrumental in hopefully liberating the disenfranchised “snowflake” stereotype — not to coerce any assumed “inferiors” into Liking some noncommercial hive. I actually had a genuine cause for concern, coming from a broken home in an increasingly divisive country. Though this did prove to be too cynical to a handful of my pretensive and hypocritical unfollowers (most disappointingly my utopianist musical colleagues)…

Nowadays I can’t help but wonder if my perceived “cancellers” guiltiness of cutting me off, has yet subsided—for the stand that I righteously took on a razor’s edge! Alas my cathartical “Blindside” — featuring instrumental “Dark Times” and ditty “Only a Matter of Time” — was vehemently valid all along. And I surely earned the right to my silence thereafter…

Serendipity Breaking Loose 30/08/2021

So before I go getting myself buried alive, I’m now quite meekly getting round to dusting off my socials beyond the ‘gram. Do subscribe if you still believe in magic!

Well this one’s probably my guitar magnum opus: meets 'All Hell Breaks Loose' of year 2010 cathartically conceived within just a couple mins of each other, believe it or not (the burden of proof lies solely with me of course)! And I thought it would only be right to thusly meld the two recordings together, during a pandemic, style! Prosperous and apocalyptic themed... yet .

Serendipity Breaking Loose Probably my acoustic guitar magnum opus, 'Serendipity' and 'All Hell Breaks Loose' of year 2010 cathartically conceived within just a couple...

Solo Guitar [2010]

Good day to you. SoundCloud -- where I originally exposed my impromptu art back in 2010 -- has pretty much been a dead platform for some time now; hence, I'll be uploading this compilation to YouTube soon -- where I hope to carry on my free-spirited "renegade" sentiments. But what does it mean to be a renegade? It's never been about self-righteousness, for me; it's something for us to discover ourselves as inquisitive individuals. Namaste.

TLC (WIP version 2) by renegade spirit

Hiii. I've not posted on this page for a while (since before 2016s political storms!!); having had thoughts of starting afresh somehow (YouTube channel possibly on the horizon!); I just thought to share with you what I'm currently working on -- WIP lyrics based on my original poem called Drifting Clouds. You might recall that I was trying to come up with something special; and it's something I'm still struggling with; but this meditative experience has personally become a valuable learning process. What I really want to say to my boldest followers in the new year is thanks for still being around (even tho Facebook as a corporation sucks massively); keep the faith; you're awesome. Namaste. :D

Solo Guitar [2010]

Hey. I'm still alive. This set of extemporary instrumentals is something I'm soon going to upload afresh on YouTube (better late than never) — with themes based on overcoming adversity and oppression. I was out of work and education, and once on a mission, but it seems that I'd been taking this "activistic" endeavour too seriously (100 likes quest). Thank you for being part of my "renegade" army, as I sought to advocate noncommercial self-expression in music and offer my voice to the young and hopeless (I was only 19 years old myself when I exploded with all these recordings). It's been a wild few years of self-realisation; more material should hopefully come from me sooner or later—but, as usual, don't hold your breath! Just keep on keeping on. - Lewis Aquilina

Hiya comrades, I'm still a ways from my 100 likes target (what will ever become of "release IV"?!), but I've not abandoned this far-out cause; how the hell could I, with such a controversial nickname! You might've sensed that I've still got some air to clear, concerning my (unintended) martyrdom; and lack of consistent internets was always a slight snag. Well, you might be endeared to know that I'm working on answering a few things; my personal legacy is soon to be appendaged with my ever delayed swansong. Cheers for holding out; I admire your braveness! See you next year.

It haunts me to think about what I might be missing out on, not undergoing HE music. If I ever do manage to get scouted for my recorded work, justice will be served. Just think of how amazing it'd be, if it ever does reemerge from low-fidelity, to have a fully produced (perhaps live orchestrated) 'All Hell Breaks Loose'. The question is: how do I go about making this a reality? Perhaps send it into a movie company?? https://soundcloud.com/lewisaquilina/all-hell-breaks-loose?in=lewisaquilina/sets/legacy

An Impromptu Lo-Fi Quest

Hello followers, what another lovely day it is to be at the library. This is a quick message to say that my upcoming song--which has been delayed since Xmas--has been shaping up nicely (I'm STILL mulling over the verses), but it should be recorded this or next month. I've got a new blog in the works too--confessing what's come about this page and my "100 likes quest". In the meantime, I've curated this playlist, featuring the finest of my low-fidelity recordings...

02/03/2015

Hello, I'm now seeking help in writing/recording some tunes, based on my lo-fi material! In particular, there's my open mic WIP song for acoustic guitar that's still yet to be recorded. Please message me if you know someone that might be interested; I'm hoping to expand my contacts. My recordings can be found on soundcloud, under the aptly renamed "lo-fi renegade", and also on my page. Cheers.

A Lionheart's Quest

Outside of soundcloud, I made this page hoping to get some local support and direction on my path of progression. It's taken me years to be able to correct myself. Completing my recent transition into "lo-fi renegade", this here may be the idealistic playlist of my lo-fi excursions: just impromptu guitar--recorded in the pinnacle span of three months (releases I-III). It subtly tells a story of ones determination to overcome adversity (despite my drawbacks of not having decent recording equipment and being a beginner guitarist). Will this stuff ever get produced? Well it's already approaching five years since this event, so perhaps it'll forever remain in situ--along with all those unfinished songs (a shame, no doubt). Currently, I'm still looking into recording my first proper song, and am still uncertain about my musical prospects. Anyway, I'm still moving on from it, but this is my understated legacy; a little rough around the edges, but still a viable achievement, no less.

Unsung emotion
Share the notion calling out
Love will echo through the drought

This is the (recently revised) intro to my new song Flight, which is set to be recorded next month now due to the person recording me having had a busy schedule. Admittedly, writing this song has made me realise that I'm actually a bad songwriter--having rewritten the lyrics so much during the past few months! Despite it being so simple, I've mulled many hours into writing this on a daily basis--my first proper song--figuring out what it could be about, whilst sharpening my wits on the art of songwriting (note: cliches are no bad thing!). OK, so here's the first chorus:

Ease me from the clouds
Like a bomber coming down
Towards charted ground,
Please turn this around
Let's rekindle freedom sound

25/11/2014

So then, I should be recording a few songs in the run up to Xmas. I'm to record Flight first--a song inspired by the whole curating of my "lo-fi renegade" demo CD, with some real honest (hopefully not smoochy) lyrics. Then I might rerecord a 2011 improv from said upcoming CD--perhaps Oh, Look--a song that could be about this "lost generation", which kinda ties together the whole "100 likes quest" thing I started. Who wants to help me rewrite the lyrics on that one? Hmm it's a toughie with work starting now. I'll be making a new page as well to mark this venture into HQ material, inviting only the supporters/friends of "lo-fi renegade" for the time being.

24/10/2014

Happy to say that I've now fully written Flight--possibly my new "signature song" on acoustic, which will feature on my "lo-fi renegade" compilation CD and be the closer--I suspect--to my solo debut album (if and when). Being the perfectionist I annoyingly am, I've had to wrestle with the lyrics a lot; the song is overdue, but it'll be worth it for when I return to the open mic scene. Now I just need someone who's willing to record it!

Intro to my soon to be recorded acoustic song 'Flight', written to tie up the loose ends of my "definitive" compilation CD--specifically for those whom has braved my online musical presence. For the first time not an improvisation or an unfinished recording, I'm sure it'll be a hit at the open mics and can't wait to perform it!
