We’re trying to adjust to living in the north again. It’s already snowed twice (like.... bundle up and go sledding kinda snow)☃️ At least I have pics of this lovely in the green grass to remind me of ☀️🍉🌴🕶

🎄Who doesn’t love a re-purposed Christmas dress?🎄

This red Christmas dress has a little story behind it. A sweet friend of mine wore it with all its handmade, velvet glory as a child and so did her mother, years before her to celebrate Christmas. It’s about 60 years old!My friend has 2 little girls and asked me to create a blue dress that coordinated with the red one...but didn’t match. She plans to put her daughters in these dresses to surprise her mother when she visits them for Christmas. It was such a privilege to be asked to sew this and so special to be a part of a new family memory that is mixed in with this amazing red dress. (Warning : sappy, mushy words ahead....) Sewing garments for little girls means so much more to me that just making them look cute. I know that I am creating a visual stamp in a families memories for years to come when I’m sewing this fabric to life. When they think of that special Christmas or birthday, more than likely, it will be said....”oh, yes and don’t you remember that sweet dress that I wore?! I felt like a princess!” That’s what drives my craft. It’s such a honor to be a part of those moments that turn into precious memories❤️

One of the best things that you can do to be a part of the is to invest in handmade garments and dive into thrifting! I love to sew but I also love to find treasures!! The quality of vintage clothing can not be beat... if you're looking for you're "go to" vintage shop.. look no further! is a paradise! It's SO good and I promise you will find so many goodies! Ps... Getting my Sew-Jo back (finally) 💃

Hello! It's been a long, long time since I've given this little page any love! This summer has brought a lot of changes for my family...the biggest one being a huge move from Georgia to New Jersey! My sewing machines (along with all of other earthy possessions) have been in storage since May. I'm unpacking my sewing room this week....finally! I've had a lot of time to think about AllieKat Handmade and am excited to share some exciting new things happening for this little brand! Thanks for hanging with me! Please stay tuned! xoxo

I love the imperfection of linen and not to mention how earth loving ❤🌎that working with it is verses other fabrics! I'm going to do a big, beautiful post about very soon! I have to remember to take before pics bc this sweet A-line dress was cut from a frumpy, moo-moo, Goodwill score! I'm really digging pushing my creativity by transforming thrifting finds! .

📚STORY TIME...This is my son, Drew, and his buddy Rachel (she has nothing to do w this story....but her smile lights up a room so I wanted you to be illuminated ☺️). Anyway, if you don't know Drew....He is a sweet, old soul with a huge heart bursting with crazy musical talent. His super power is Empathy. The other night we watched the documentary on Netflix. It's an eye opening, heart-aching narrative on the fashion industry and its impact on our planet and its inhabitants. We've had so many meaningful conversations since our little movie night. Long story short....he ONLY wants 2nd hand or eco-friendly clothing from now on but only when he outgrows something (total mom score 🙌). As a family, we try to be conscious about our consumptions and we work hard to teach our kids that joy is found in God, relationships with people (and animals🦄), travel and experiences....not in stuff. We only own things that are useful to us. This philosophy was planted in his brain long ago so it's normal to him. BUT...this film was so important to teach him to question why we (especially, Americans) are such insatiable consumers? And why we assume that fashion is trivial and are clueless that it has become the 2nd most polluting industry on Earth next to oil? And lastly, this film sheds light on modern day slavery and inhumane conditions for garment workers in developing countries. Sooooo.... It was totally serendipity that the question of the week at his high school was "What do you think the biggest problem is in teen fashion?" Drew's answer : THAT MODERN FASHION IS TOO FAST AND ITS KILLING THE EARTH AND ENSLAVING ITS PEOPLE.....whoa. He gets it and is well on his way to being a change maker! I encourage you to not only educate yourself on this huge crisis but also to share it with your teen. We each have individual power in the collective if we choose to learn, teach and do better. Is it weird for a sewist (who sells clothing) to be saying to slow down on your garment purchasing? Well, I am. My business will be moving in the direction of using resources that already exist or investing in materials that are ethically and ecologically respectful. A direction that I can lay my head down at night, knowing I'm doing my part. Thanks for joining me for story time 😘 ✌️🌎

This little dress used to be a woman's top and is now part of my daughter's spring/summer capsule wardrobe. Did you know that only 10% of textiles (clothing) that get donated to charities in the US are actually sold as 2nd hand clothing? The rest eventually end up in a landfill. On average, Americans produce 21 MILLION POUNDS of textile waste annually. These stats boggle my little brain and hurt my big heart. What can you do about it, you ask?! ✔️Buy less and wear longer! ✔️Buy better quality instead of more quantity! ✔️Know where your clothes came from...learn about the impact that the fashion industry has on our Earth and it's people! ✔️Support your local/Handmade/thrift market! ✔️Say NO to ... Stay out of / &m / ...just to name a few. ✔️Learn some mad mending skillz and get your sew-jo on (btw...I learned to sew from asking questions and watching YouTube...you can too!) A true solution to this enormous problem is hard when makes it so easy to burn through clothing. All we can do, is our individual part and make baby steps in the right direction. Be part of the conscious collective! .

Hey girl haaaay🙋 (there's totally a chi seed in my teeth...y'all deal...I'm not taking another selfie😂) Anywho....
I haven't done an in awhile...So, Hi! I'm Cassie - the mad scientist behind Alliekat Handmade! I'm as shocked as anyone else who knows me that sewing turned out to be my thang! Ask my high school Home Ec teacher (yes, I'm showing my age..lol) and she would have voted me hopeless! I just absolutely love to be at my machine...I actually have dreams of sewing🤓👗✂️
Alliekat Handmade came about because when I was pregnant with my spunky lil' girl (Allie), I just couldn't seem to find the clothes I wanted to dress her in, in the retail world. So in classic Cassie style...I thought....I'll learn to sew (better) and design her wardrobe myself! And that's just what I did! I reached out to a high school friend and she basically taught me A LOT via Facebook messenger! (Beasley - you da 💣.com)! I'm not sure how she didn't lose her mind with me...ha!
Then....folks kept asking me to sew for them and so Alliekat Handmade was born!! You'll find that most of my work has a vintage shape with modern flair and a touch of boho! My passion is creating one-of-a-kind wearable works of art! I just love the idea of that one piece being the only one out on the streets like it!
Couple more tid bits about me...I'm a proud Army wife to an amazing man and mom to an almost 15 year old son (who is an amazing musician) and a 2 year old crazy little redhead (who is...."confident" and "spirited")! God has blessed me beyond measure😊 I'll be 40 this year and I'm not sure we're done having babies yet bc we're crazy and want to have kids in the house until we kill over from old age! We move a lot (we're moving again in 4 months) and my goal is to make Alliekat Handmade my portable career!
