STATEMENT OF THE BARMM GRAND COALITION (BGC)
CALLING FOR TRUTH AND ACCOUNTABILITY
ON THE MEETING OF BARMM MAYORS WITH
SOUTH COTABATO GOVERNOR REYNALDO TAMAYO, JR.
During the general assembly of the BGC in Tawi-Tawi on June 29, 2024, Mayor Raida Maglangit of the Municipality of Kapatagan, Lanao del Sur, a staunch member of the BGC, revealed to the assembly what transpired in the June 24 meeting between BARMM Mayors and Governor Tamayo in Manila.
In her account of the meeting, Mayor Maglangit said that Governor Tamayo “forced” the Mayors to support the UBJP; failure to accede would mean that their LGUs will be “subjected to audit”. In response, Mayor Maglangit questioned the right of Gov. Tamayo, who is not from BARMM, to interfere in its affairs.
Governor Tamayo, in an interview, claims he was misinterpreted. He was, he says, referring to good governance practices of BARMM LGUs that can be replicated elsewhere. This denial was belied by other mayors present in the meeting.
The BGC calls for the truth to come out. It calls that those who subvert the truth be accountable, along with those who would go against the principles of fair, transparent, and peaceful elections— principles that have been espoused by national leadership, foremost among them President Ferdinand Marcos.
The BGC reiterates its June 25 statement thanking and lauding the President for his strong, consistent and clear policy towards peaceful, accountable and transparent elections in the BARMM. We shall not be deterred by persons or groups who promote positions that are contrary to the President’s policies and pronouncement. BGC will not waver and will continue to support the President’s agenda for sustainable peace and security in the BARMM.
BGC TO HOLD ASSEMBLIES IN TAWI-TAWI, BASILAN END-JUNE
The BARMM Grand Coalition (BGC), the alliance of four major political parties in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), will hold successive assemblies in the provinces of Tawi-Tawi and Basilan this coming June 29 and 30.
The BGC Assembly in Tawi-Tawi will be undertaken this June 29 in the Municipality of Bongao, while the assembly of the alliance in Basilan will be held in the Maluso municipality on June 30.
According to Sheila Ganda, BGC spokesperson and head of communications, the assemblies will gather members of the BGC in the respective provinces and also gather community support for the principles and ideals of the coalition.
“We will be organizing and mobilizing our grassroots and political machinery on the ground. Everyone who believes in the ideals of BGC, such as inclusive governance and development, peace and unity, and the full implementation of the peace agreement, is welcome to join us,” Ganda expressed.
The coalition is endorsing and supporting the bid of Gov. Tan to be the Chief Minister of the BARMM Parliament should he win in the 2025 BARMM elections.
Ganda said the assemblies in Tawi-Tawi and Basilan will be good venues to tell the citizens of BARMM of what the BGC stands for.
“Aside from the principles mentioned, we are also pushing for equitable representation in the Bangsamoro Parliament, especially for women, the youth and Indigenous Peoples. Magandang venue ito para ipakilala ang mga ipinaglalaban ng aming koalisyon,” Ganda said.
BARMM GRAND COALITION LAUDS PBBM’S CALL FOR PEACEFUL, SUCCESSFUL 2025 BARMM POLLS
The BARMM Grand Coalition (BGC) has praised the very recent call of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for a peaceful and successful 2025 BARMM elections, saying it bodes well for the historic exercise of the rights of the Bangsamoro people to choose their own leaders.
Sulu Gov. Abdusakur Tan, one of the leaders of the BGC, lauded the President’s strong message of peace and success for the upcoming polls in BARMM, saying it also mirrors the coalition’s principles and advocacies.
“The BARMM Grand Coalition is very grateful and strongly supports our President Ferdinand Marcos’ consistent and ‘loud and clear’ call for a peaceful and successful May 2025 elections in BARMM. It is a clear sign that the Bangsamoro region is taking another step toward its objective of self-governance and self-determination,” Gov. Tan declared.
In his meeting with the local government executives of BARMM LGUs last June 24, President Marcos Jr. expressed confidence that the BARMM elections will be peaceful, accountable and transparent. He then called for unity and for cooperation of all to contribute to the success of the polls.
The BGC earlier endorsed the bid of Gov. Tan as Chief Minister of the Bangsamoro government should he win in the 2025 elections for members of the Parliament.
“The BGC is one with the President in this call and we are committed to the conduct of the elections that is fair, peaceful, transparent, and in accordance with the rule of law,” said Gov. Tan.
“We express confidence in the ability of the Commission on Elections to administer the elections with utmost impartiality and professionalism towards peaceful and successful outcome as envisioned by the President,” he added.
“We call for unity of all political parties and BARMM citizens in realizing the call of our President. BGC is always open to dialogue with stakeholders to achieve this call.”
"Hindi kinakailangan na humawak ng baril para sa jihad. Bagkus ito ay pagsang-ayon sa M**F upang magkaroon ng kapayapaan. Mula BOL, kaming lahat ay sumang-ayon.
Lahat kami ay sumuporta para maratipika ang BOL. Sinuportahan natin ito ng buong puso.
Kaya ngayon nagpapasalamat tayo kay President Ferdinand Marcos for giving us the opportunity to choose our leader."
