Is healthy aging and longevity important to you?

If it's not, it should be! We are a direct reflection of our cellular health & a huge aspect of healthy aging & longevity depends on the health of our actual cells.

NAD is a cofactor found in every living cell.

Cellular care is the new self care & we need to protect our cellular health as much as our physical & emotional health.

NAD:
- Optimizes cellular energy production
- Aids in cellular detoxification
- Protects cells from free radicals
- Helps slow cellular aging
- Boosts natural detoxification process
- Supports healthy aging
- Protects against disease
- Enhances cognitive health

We can boost NAD naturally by exercising, eating an anti-inflammatory diet, operating with consistent circadian rhythm, & practicing time restricted eating.

Now, we can also supplement with it! I would love to share more with you about its potential benefit for you.

DM me NAD for more information!

Do you ever feel overwhelmed with trying to be healthy or make all the right choices & decisions? πŸ™‹πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Do you feel like you are often 2 steps forward 1 (or more) steps back πŸ€ͺ

Often, it can feel like there are so many things to do & consider, & so many mixed messages, especially in our β€œwellness world” today.

Eat healthy fats, don't eat too many carbs, avoid food dyes, watch for toxic products, don't put "that" on your skin, get sun, but don't burn, don't use products with this or that, eat this, not that, avoid this, get plenty of that, take cold showers, use red light therapy, avoid blue light πŸ€―πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈβ˜€οΈπŸ€ΈπŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

The list goes on & on.

If you are feeling overwhelmed or not sure where to start to take steps toward a healthier you, a healthier family, or a healthier home, you are not alone!

My clients tell me all the time, I just don't know where to start, there are so many things to consider & address.

I remind them, SLOW & STEADY wins the race, small incremental changes over time make the BIGGEST differences in the long run πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Health behavior, diet, & lifestyle change is difficult & it is not always a linear journey. It’s often full of turns, peaks & valleys, getting lost & finding your way again πŸ’•

We often adopt healthier habits for a while & then backslide. The path to optimal wellness is not a destination, rather a journey, & it is not always linear.

Walk gently with yourself. Adopt small changes overtime that bring you joy. Here are a few ideas:

πŸ’•Hug your kids, friends or partner more
β˜€οΈSpend more time outside & in nature
πŸ‘πŸΌGet your hands dirty (literally)
🦢🏽Walk barefoot more often & connect to earth
πŸ’ƒπŸΌHave more dance parties
🎢Listen to more music
πŸ₯—Try a new fun recipe as a family
πŸͺBake cookies
πŸͺ΄Start a garden
πŸ’¦Start your day w water
πŸ€ΈπŸΌβ€β™€οΈMove your body everyday
πŸ§˜πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈTake deep breaths, meditate, stretch
πŸšΆπŸ»β€β™€οΈTake a walk after lunch or supper

Just incase you needed another reason to consider getting more sunshine and reducing/eliminating gluten in your diet 😁

If you regularly experience anxiety or brain fog and/or your kids are experiencing hyper activity and/or inability to focus, please consider sun therapy and going gluten free.

I cannot tell you how many clients and friends, a gluten free diet has helped.

In many cases, we can cure anxiety AND improve cognitive function - not to mention the weight loss, less bloating and digestive benefits.

When our skin is exposed to sunlight, it makes vitamin D from cholesterol and Vitamin D increases GAD production which increases GABA, our main inhibitory neurotransmitter.

GABA helps us to relax, focus, and feel calm.

On the other hand, gluten seems to inhibit the production of GAD in people who have leaky gut, celiac, or non-celiac gluten sensitivity, which then therefore, inhibits the production of GABA.

We are finding today, that most people fall into to this category as having gluten sensitivity.

A little more sunshine and a little less gluten may be key to resolving some of our most common health concerns today.

Have you tried a gluten free diet? Notice a difference? I would love to hear in the comments!

Thinking about gong gluten free? What's holding you back? I would love to help you troubleshoot!

Happy national world breastfeeding week! 🀱🏻🀱🏼🀱🏾

This is definitely a week that deserves celebrating!

The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends breastfeeding through toddlerhood, at least until age 2 πŸ₯°πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Did you know the average age of weaning worldwide is 4 years old?

Fed is best & I recognize some women can't or don't want to nurse, & that is A-OK! But for those of who want to & can, we need more support & not the "when are you going to stop nursing"?

How your baby is fed is an important choice & nursing doesn't always come naturally or easy!

Ollie & I had a REALLY hard time at first & I reached out to several lactation consultants for help.

Don't be afraid to seek help if you need it. I would love to help you as well!

Whether you nurse a few hours, days, months or years, celebrate that! It is a full time job at first!

The benefits of breast milk for babies & toddlers are incredible. So what are they?

Benefits to πŸ‘ΆπŸΌπŸ‘ΆπŸΎπŸ‘ΆπŸ½:

- Colostrum is loaded w/ immune, growth, & tissue repair factors & protects against illness & infections

- Breastmilk contains microbes playing a vital role developing the foundation for a healthy, diverse, & robust gut microbiome

- Breastmilk has hormones & the perfect amount of protein, sugar, fat & most vitamins to help πŸ‘ΆπŸ» grow & develop

- Breastmilk has antibodies that help protect πŸ‘ΆπŸΎ from many illnesses, diseases, & cancers lifelong

- Breastmilk changes as πŸ‘ΆπŸ½ grows so they get exactly what they need all the time, even after 1!

- Nursing is calming to the πŸ‘ΆπŸΌ and helps develop a sense of security

- Breastmilk provides sleep-inducing hormones

- Breastmilk helps with breathing & colic issues & helps to prevent allergies & supports the oral & nasal microbiome

- Breastfed babies are often a healthier weight as an adult

- Suckling causes an oxytocin release in mama & baby which promotes a sense of well-being, love & safety

- Breast milk contains high levels of glutamate which is critical for human brain development

What did I miss?!?

Comment πŸ™‹πŸ½β€β™€ πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™‚if you have ever been told to limit salt or feel like you should limit salt intake.

Stop listening!

Salt is an essential mineral AND provides flavor to food.

We need salt for many reasons - to help with digestion, hydration, performance, organ function, energy, to fight infections, and more!

Salt is not causing high blood pressure or chronic illness, it is the sugar & refined & processed foods, salt is unfortunately getting blamed though.

Sugar & refined carbs lead to high blood sugars - high blood sugars lead to high insulin levels - insulin stimulates salt absorption by the kidneys which leads to salt retention - leading to high blood pressure over time.

It is not the salt's fault though πŸ€— it’s insulin! And insulin is high mostly due to excessive refined carb & sugar intake.

It's important to choose a good quality salt which is why I love Redmond Real Salt, mined in Utah and is super high quality and mineral dense.

It has a delicious slight sweet flavor. Go get some & thank me later!

A healed person is a powerful person. And a pretty extraordinary one!

Let's get to healing, folks πŸ˜ƒ Healing emotionally and healing physically. Everything is at stake.

Right now, we need more people willing to be accepting of one another's differences, more people willing to lock hands and unite against the forces that are trying to tear us apart, more people doing the hard healing work, emotionally and physically.

We need connection. The illusion of connection is agreement but the reality of connection is acceptance.

We all have past hurts and traumas, some more severe than others but we all have them.

Start to heal what hurt you or you will bleed on those who didn't cut you.

Let’s be honest, most of us could all be healthier physically and/or emotionally.

Let's commit to the healing journey and become better than we ever imagined possible.

The possibilities and realities that come with happiness, health and healing are endless!

When I look back on how far I've come in this process, it brings tears to my eyes, knowing what is possible!

10-15 years ago, I was stuck in the trenches of addiction (eating disorder), suffering with severe anxiety, lost, broken, stressed to the max, suffering with insomnia and poor gut health and I made a decision. I was sick of being sick and tired of being anxious and was ready to commit to change and whole body (mind and gut) healing.

My healing journey is the greatest gift I have given myself, my family, my clients, and the world!

What I have learned (and unlearned) and implemented along the way is profound and you can do it too!

DM me if you're wanting to make changes and just aren't sure where or how to start.

There is no better time than the present!

The greatest gift you can give your future self, your family, friend etc is the healthiest version of yourself!

Anybody else crave sweet, salty, fatty foods when they’re stressed?!? πŸ™‹πŸΌβ€β™€πŸ™‹πŸ½

Guess what? It is not really your fault! It is a defense mechanism that provides us the inclination to eat foods high in sugar for energy so we can run from danger...

The problem today though is, we aren't running from danger, we are likely sitting at a desk or stressing over relationship, financial, or job related stressors & we actually don't need all that excess energy.

However, our body & brain doesn't realize this & a cascade of hormonal shifts happen in the body when we feel or perceive stress, regardless of the stressor.

Also, when stressed, cortisol is elevated & we crave sugar because sugar consumption can stimulate the production of serotonin, which is calming & relaxing (in correct doses).

When you are feeling overwhelmed & stressed & you reach for something unhealthy to eat, try to be aware of your actions & feelings & ask yourself, AM I TRULY PHYSICALLY HUNGRY or am I responding to an emotional hunger or stimulus.

If the answer is, yes, you are hungry, opt for a nutrient dense food high in quality protein & healthy fat πŸ₯šπŸ₯‘πŸ₯©πŸ πŸ₯₯

If the answer is no, & you are feeling emotionally hungry, frustrated, upset, anxious or stressed, try to pause, reset & engage in an activity that will actually help you feel better long term & result in a more healthy outcome.

Ideas:

🌬 Do a few minutes of breath work/deep breathing
πŸ’™ Take a break & reset your thoughts
πŸšΆπŸ½β€β™€ Take a brief walk & visualize something positive
πŸ“± Call a friend or loved one
🎢 Listen to calming music
πŸ‹πŸ½ Lift something heavy regularly
πŸ§˜πŸ½β€β™‚ Do yoga or gentle stretching
🌳 Get out in nature for a few minutes
🌞 Sun exposure AM & PM
πŸͺ΄ Diffuse essential oils (EO) (lavender)
🧚🏽 Progressive relaxation techniques
πŸ›€πŸ½ Take a bath with epsom salt & EO
🍡 Drink chamomile or other calming tea
πŸ€— Connect with another human or pet

What did I miss? What helps your stress?

Poor Sleep? Anxious? Tired? Low Energy? Having trouble staying hydrated?

This product may help with all of the above!

Redmond RE-LYTE Electrolyte Mix is a product I use pretty much daily!

Our body needs 5 essential electrolytes to hydrate our cells and keep our muscles and entire body working its best.

RE-LYTE delivers an ideal non-GMO blend of sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium & chloride along with coconut water powder and natural trace minerals from Redmond Real Salt.

Magnesium is in the form of magnesium malate and glycerinate, two very bioavailable and important forms of magnesium.

Drinking in the AM will help you start the day off hydrated, increase your energy levels, and be ready to take on the world as your oyster!

Drinking it in the PM will promote restful sleep as magnesium glycinate is calming, restorative and known to help lessen anxiety.

Most of us are deficient in magnesium and magnesium is important for well, just about everything!

Magnesium seems to be one of those potential cure alls! It is needed to activate ATP so it helps give you energy. It increases antioxidants and supports cellular health. It also helps to increase melatonin which will help with deep sleep.

Most people who suffer with anxiety and depression are deficient in magnesium.

Using this mix helps me stay hydrated and feeling my best. It says to mix with 16-18 oz of water per serving but I dilute it to more like 40 oz of water to get in more water and because I prefer a milder flavor.

Start with a sampler pack to see which flavor(s) you love.

Code drmoring will get you 15% off of every order!

I also love their salt, organic salt seasoning blend (your one-stop seasoning shop) and their other products like their super charged RE-LYTE immunity blend.

GREAT company located in the US in Utah. Get to ordering πŸ’™

Have you felt additional stress or anxiety lately? or over the last few years?!?

Stress is considered a silent killer & excess & chronic stress is one of the leading causes of disease & disability worldwide.

Why is stress so harmful?

A main reason stress is so harmful is when we feel or perceive stress, the body (& brain) react by releasing the hormone cortisol & elevated cortisol levels set off a cascade of negative events in the body if levels remain elevated chronically.

Chronic stress is also strongly correlated to weight gain, anxiety, depression, & hormonal imbalances.

Why? When cortisol is released, blood sugar levels rise in tandem & eventually the hormone insulin is released to bring blood sugars back down.

Insulin is an anabolic, building, fat storing hormone & when levels are elevated long term, this leads to weight gain & metabolic dysfunction (high blood pressure & sugars, poor cholesterol profiles, excess belly weight).

Also, there is a major link between excess stress & estrogen dominance as cortisol can also lower progesterone levels which can then lead to imbalances in estrogen & progesterone contributing to estrogen dominance & the multitude of negative health implications that come with estrogen dominance.

The take away - you can do everything right from a dietary stand point but if you have or experience chronic stress & cortisol levels are chronically elevated, you will not feel well & will likely experience many negative health concerns.

Make yourself a priority & actively try to manage & reduce your stress levels. We live in a fast paced world, try to slow down & ensure you are taking care of you.

Be mindful of what you read, watch, listen to & maybe take a break from screen time (tv, phone, etc).

As someone who lived in a calorie counting prison for far too long & as someone who was once young, yet suffering from an array of health concerns, please heed this message.

Please stop dieting.
Stop counting calories.
Stop obsessing over macros.
Stop adopting the latest trendy diet.
Stop listening to all the noise.

Do pay attention to ingredients.
Do limit consumption of inflammatory oils & foods.
Do listen to how your body, mind, & gut feel after you eat.

Learn to fuel your body with what it (& your microbes) need to function most optimally.

Pay more attention to ingredients than calories or macros.

Once you start eating real, whole, mostly unprocessed foods, your body will tell you what it wants & needs to thrive.

Your microbes will change, your cravings will ease & your weight will stabilize (or fall off if you need to lose weight) & you will feel unbelievably well.

Stop counting calories. Start counting ingredients.

Lmk how this resonates. Drop an emoji if this speaks to you πŸ’•

I started suffering from debilitating anxiety in grad school. Panic attacks, the whole 9 yards. It started when I was about 24, seemingly out of nowhere.

The stress from grad school was causing my gut to be more permeable as stress also increases gut permeability, contributing to leaky gut & a list of other problems.

I was suffering from insomnia, anxiety, allergies, chronic sinus infections, & joint pain.

I had no idea grain (& soy) consumption was exacerbating these conditions.

I now better understand all of these complex pathways & want you to understand that grains are not the superfood our FDA & gov touts them to be.

In fact, they are one of the least nutrient dense & inflammatory foods. This is especially true for GMO varieties. Grains are only nutrient dense in their raw inedible form.

Further, pre-harvest, most fields are sprayed with glyphosate, a potent anti-bacterial killer which has devastating implications for our health.

Many crops, especially corn, are then sprayed again pre-harvest.

There has been a lot of controversy about gluten (& other grains) in recent years & you may feel confused about what is true about its impact on health.

The truth is for most people, consumption of grains, especially refined grains is problematic for our health.

Gluten is also known to attack an enzyme involved in the production of GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter whose regulation is implicated in both anxiety & depression.

This is one reason the removal of gluten often helps reduce or completely eliminate anxiety.

After adopting a gluten, soy & mostly grain free diet, I never have anxiety. I sleep well, don't have allergies & am hardly every sick.

If you experience anxiety, depression, or insomnia, please consider adopting a gluten/wheat & corn free diet.

I offer 1-1 coaching & can help guide you through diet & lifestyle shifts that will transform your life & health.

If you’ve been looking for a healthy, delicious, high protein, gluten free pancake/waffle recipe, I’ve got one for you!

Banana Cinnamon Gluten Free Pancakes (or Waffles) with extra protein & healthy fats 🀩

These are always a hit in our house!

Dry Ingredients:
β€’ 1 cup gluten free flour
β€’ 3/4 cup almond flour
β€’ 1 tbsp baking powder
β€’ 1 tbsp cinnamon
β€’ 2 tbsp ground flax seed
β€’ 2 scoops truvani banana cinnamon protein powder
β€’ pinch of salt

Wet ingredients:
β€’ 1 stick kerrygold grassfed butter
β€’ 2 pasture raised eggs, whisked
β€’ 1 cup unsweetened almond milk or other milk

Directions:
1. Mix all dry ingredients together
2. Mix in other ingredients
3. Drop onto skillet or griddle in 1/3 cup servings for pancakes or drop into a waffle maker.

Makes about 10 pancakes or 4-6 waffles.

Notes:

1. You can use regular milk, nut pods, or other non-dairy milk if almond milk is not an option or preference

2. You can use any GF flour, I like just about foods all purpose GF flour or bobs 1:1.

3. You really don’t need a syrup but if you use one, choose a high quality maple or local honey

4. Berries make a great addition

5. You can also use any protein powder or collagen peptides for the added protein. We prefer truvani banana cinnamon or vanilla but anything works especially a vanilla flavor, just ensure clean ingredients or unflavored collagen peptides

6. You can also leave the protein powder or peptides out but I like to add it for extra protein!

7. The flax adds extra healthy fat along with the butter & eggs!

We love these & make them in double batches & freeze. You can also add a mashed ripe banana if you want more banana flavor!

These are made with clean ingredients & have a macronutrient distribution you can feel great about!

Drop a πŸ’• if you’re excited to try!

Anybody feel crazy after you ovulate? Like fall weather, the Luteal Phase can be unpredictable & a hormonal roller coaster!

During this phase, there is potential for pregnancy & the body is assuming it could be pregnant & acts accordingly.

Metabolism increases due to the increase in body temp as progesterone is the dominant hormone now & it is warming.

Just after ovulation, both estrogen & progesterone are at their peak, making us more astute, calm & focused, a great time to focus & get stuff done!

We will feel more hungry & may experience cravings. Enjoy more calories (10-15% more) during this phase & try to focus on healthy fats & quality protein & less carbs..

Fat storage is increased as the body is preparing to support a pregnancy & muscle growth is reduced.

You may not feel like extended fasting during this phase since appetite is most likely raging.

We are more insulin resistant & blood sugar is less stable meaning we want to not go overboard on carbs.

Fun fact - the two times in life we are naturally insulin resistant is during puberty & pregnancy as these are times associated with growth & insulin is a building storing (& fat storing) anabolic hormone.

We may be less likely to tolerate much alcohol & you may notice you feel nauseous after just a little bit which makes sense - you could be pregnant & the body is trying to rid toxins.

During week 4, we may experience PMS leading up to menstruation & this is a protective mechanism.

There is a chance for pregnancy & we are protecting a potential baby & may not feel like being around other "animals" or anything that could endanger the baby.

PMS is not our fault ladies! It is an evolutionary protective mechanism!

As far as exercise, moderate weight lifting & any type of cardio should feel good.

Try to honor & embrace each phase. The more we lean in to it & provide our better what it needs, the better our cycles will be.

What ? Do you have?!?
