There is light at the end of the road, and your journey is worth it. Keep fighting, and you'll find the resilience within you to overcome. 💪

I review this equation in my practice every so often. Why? Because just as there is joy and happiness in life, there is also pain and loss.

Pain is a normal part of life, and yet, for many of us, our first instinct is to resist it. And yet what happens is that the more we resist that pain, the resistance itself brings a level of discomfort and distress that can increase the total suffering we can feel.

Heartache, betrayal, grief, and loss. They for sure don’t feel good, but sometimes it can be helpful to see if your total suffering can be reduced by reducing the resistance and accepting what is. Does this change in perspective resonate at all with you?

That’s why Dr. Linda is so excited to announce the upcoming workshop, founded on the SPACE treatment protocol developed at Yale. Learn more about accommodations and how to target and then reduce them to help your child manage their own anxiety.

✨ Over the years working with women as their therapist, I've witnessed how difficult it is for so many of them to appreciate their own loveliness and their own unique beauty.

From an early age, young girls are often taught that vanity is “bad.” Therefore, rather than appreciating their own unique features and beauty, they learn to observe themselves with a critical eye.

✨ Let's teach our daughters how to appreciate their own reflection from an early age, and allow themselves to believe they are beautiful."

✨ What is your 2023 resolution? Improved mental health or improved physical health?

A recent Forbes Health/One Poll survey demonstrated that out of 1005 US adults, 49% wanted to improve their mental health, followed by 39% who wanted to improve their physical fitness.

✨ But what if you didn’t have to choose?

So often we feel that they are separate things, but we forget that the mind and body are connected.

✨ What if exercising improves your mental health? Well, we have clear studies that this is in fact true! (Full citations in comment below).

Harvey’s group demonstrated that exercising just one hour a week is correlated with preventing future depression. This was demonstrated in a large study with over 30,000 participants over 11 years. Data showed that the number of cases of depression could be reduced by 12% if people exercised just one hour per week. This included all forms of exercise, including “regular leisure time exercise of any intensity.”

What about treating pre-existing depression? Dunn’s group showed that exercise could actually treat mild to moderate depression, with equivalent efficacy with cognitive behavioral therapy and medications. The intervention? ≥ 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise, 3 or 5 times/week.

✨ So if you’ve dusted off your sneakers recently, give yourself credit for improving both your physical and mental health!

It is normal to take some time to check in with yourself and your mental health.

This can include taking some time to focus on your thoughts and feelings and to reflect on any changes in your mental health.

It is important to be aware of any changes in your mental health, as this can help you to identify when there may be a need to seek further support.

✨ If you find that you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed for a prolonged period of time, it is important to reach out to a mental health professional for further guidance and support.

How are you feeling right now? Tell me in the comments 👇

✨ There are so many things in life that we don’t have control over. Things happen. Happy things, joyful things, painful things, tragic things. Most times we can’t control these external factors.

✨ One thing that we do have control over is our power to choose our response; that control is what I like to consider as space. My space. Your space.

✨ There’s so much power in that space.

● Observe it, and learn about what allows you to respond in a way that helps you?
● What have you noticed in a response that is hurtful to you?
● Has someone said something negative to you?

You have space and a choice of how you respond to it.

● Will it bother you for the rest of the day?
● Will it be something that you ruminate on before you go to bed?
● Or will you let it drift over you and let it pass like a leaf blowing past you in the wind?

✨ You can find ways to use that space that are helpful to your emotional health.

How do you handle your response? Share with me below👇👇

Taking care of your mental health is vital for your overall well-being, and valuing your energy is a great way to do that.

Self-care is essential for developing a healthy relationship with yourself and can help to reduce stress and anxiety.

✨ Some simple ways to value your own energy include:

● Acknowledging I can choose when, where, and how to utilize it
● Using it when it helps me
● Sharing it when it is respected and valued
● Spending it to bring me positivity
● Conserving it when I need to

Remember, it’s okay to say no sometimes, and it’s okay to take time for yourself.

Everyone deserves to have time to focus on themselves and their mental health.

So important to acknowledge how important food is for
overall mental health!

Omega 3 is composed of two main substances Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), both of which have been shown to improve and support brain health.

Most significantly, studies have shown that omega 3 helps to increase the release of serotonin from presynaptic neurones by reducing inflammatory signalling molecules in the brain. EPA has been shown to prevent the production of prostaglandins in the brain, which are inflammatory molecules that prevent serotonin production.

But it doesn't just stop there - Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) has also been shown to influence the action of serotonin in the brain by optimising brain cell membrane fluidity and therefore making serotonin more available for serotonin receptors. Fascinating stuff!
