Pure contentment ☺️ Rose has built all of this with her Nana ❤️
So it may not be your usual way to handle a sensory need…..but it’s ours 💫 Reggie loves to swing around, be upside down, constantly move. He enjoys the way it feels, the sensations and he loves the touch as we cuddle and cling on #ourway #sensoryprocessingdisorder #love #mumandson #autism #asd #autismawareness #autismuk #dance #kitchendisco #movement
And I truly hope it helps 🙏🏻 #keepwatching #autismawareness #reallifequotes #familylife #autismmom #autismmum #autismuk #asd #lifestyle #autismboy #autismgirls #reallife #viralreels
My bouldering buddy! Reggie LOVES climbing! He and his sister are just as obsessed with it as mummy is. His autism can leave him out of many things, but in true Chloe style, I push him. And in all honesty, this hasn’t needed much encouragement! He’s fearless, so doesn’t struggle with the mindset battle, and as soon as he learns a technique through watching others, he implements it and of course, remembers it! His sensory processing disorder means that even when he’s not climbing, he’s enjoying the opportunity to bounce, roll, fall and hang! You couldn’t ask for a better environment He’s learning fast, he’s in competition with his sister, and so I’m looking forward to seeing how we all progress as a family 🧗 #climbingkids #climbing #bouldering #climbingfalls #climblikeagirl #climbing_videos_of_instagram #lifestyle #autism #autismawareness #autismgoals #autismclimbing #atypicalday
Xmas has landed at the Maddin’s ❄️ In our own little way, with Xmas food, one of the best Xmas movies of all time and immense patience, the Xmas tree is up! Even myself, the grinch, has enjoyed seeing the little kids smile, laugh, pick their favourite baubles and choose the best type of picky dinnerWe hope Santa likes our tree 🎄🎅#xmas #xmastree #family #festive #santa #lapland #festiveseason #winter #christmas #christmastree #femaleinspiration #femaleempowerment #familytime #momlife #lights #grinch #thegrinch #miracle #happiness #autismawareness #autism #asdparenting #asdlife
It may be a lot of pressure, becauseI’m the only one. The person that’s always understood them, fought hard for them and is currently doing everything possible to protect them. Reggie & Rose, are unique little characters, just like we all believe our children to be. Both have autism, and a range of other diagnoses that meant my life had to change drastically to accommodate their needs. My biggest fear in life, is the day I’m not there for them, and how that will look. What kind of future they may have, how they will manage and whether their life will always be this challenging. Each day is dedicated to making sure I do everything possible to provide for them, make them smile, push them to achieve more than I was told was possible and show them just how beautiful the world is 🗺️ as scary and daunting as it seems to them. #motherhood #autism #family #lifestyle #selfbelief #inspirationalquotes #motivationalquotes #love #momlife #parent #kindness #treatpeoplewithkindness #mentalhealth #mumlife #determination #bossmom #adventure #adventuremom #empoweredwomen #empoweredmom #travelmom #travelmoments
The best gift you can give your kid, is opportunity. New experiences, new abilities and enjoyment in different formsClimbing is a sport that I’ve seen many neurodivergent individuals participate in. It methodical, and takes an element of repetition. Rose is 8 years old, diagnosed with autism at 3. She gives anything a go and enjoys focusing on things she can achieve. Her first time rope climbing went so well, that it took me two hours to get her off the walls. She wants to know more, she wants to scale bigger heights and she has a natural ability to climb, which has come from years of simply climbing anything she can within the home. Give it a go 🧗♀️ In the words of Rose, ‘it’s wicked!’#climbingkids #climbing #ropeclimbing #ropeclimb #indoorclimbing #autism #autismacceptance #love #lifestyle #family #adventure #activelifestyle #autismadventures #momlife #autismgirls #autismmom
Because hobbies create opportunities 🧗♀️Autism has never stopped us. Well, that could be rather optimistic, but we sure battle through the generalised ‘limitations’ Bouldering and indoor climbing provides stimulation, a method that’s easily understood, an opportunity to socialise and learn. The fearless approach is beneficial and the bright colours appealing. These two monkeys climb the walls at home, the doorframes, and more….so we now head down to a climbing wall mummy uses for rope climbing and they have a blast…safely! This sport is great for all, but we have found a large community of children with autism partaking for the reasons mentioned above. Head on down to your local climbing wall and give it a go. Most have shoe hire and a really welcoming community #newhobby #climbing #bouldering #sports #climbinglovers #climbingkids #autism #autistic #autismawareness #familylife #activefamily #momlife #love #leicestershire #ashbydelazouch
Sometimes adapting the environment changes the behaviours drastically. Not all ‘play time’ has to look the same. Not every child will spend hours in a busy park and play sensibly and safely on the apparatus. Not every child will enjoy a busy, loud and sensory explosive soft play area. Not every child will enjoy a busy theme park or zoo….but, what you may find, is they will enjoy the freedoms, exploration and vastness that nature has to offer. Without set agendas and simply the time to create fun within the environment and the opportunities to get messy (or not), they can truly come out of their shell. Plan your trips outdoors to suit the child’s best interests. My youngest children, both autistic, have always loved water. Finding locations with waterfalls, safe wild swimming, or streams works so well for us. Think of activities you can do with them, such as a nature hunt or even allow them to create seesaws out of fallen tree branches. It’s endless fun, opportunity and free from pressure to conform to any behavioural standard. Get out there and enjoy some beautiful places that don’t charge entry fees 🍃#freefun #nature #beyourself #autism #autismadvocate #autismadventures #love #lifestyle #justgoforit #adventure #naturelovers #sen #sensory #autismawareness #autismfamily #adhd #learningdisabilities
Seeing the world through purple coloured glasses 💜Rose’s autism may have made an eye task incredibly difficult over the years, but today was her first visit to @specsavers and they did the best job imaginable. With patience, lots of explanations and an organised approach, Rose completed every stage…even the dreaded eye drops that in the past have caused huge trauma at hospitals They’ve established her perfect prescription, helped her find some purple frames and were collecting her new glasses in the next 10 days Thank you 🙏🏻#support #specsavers #newglasses #autism #autismgirls #asd #autismawareness #autismacceptance #autismmom #specialneeds #ashbydelazouch #leicestershire #autistic
Deeply committed as a professional and motherCombining my work and motherhood was the only option I had left. It’s been that way for nearly eight years, and I believe it’s possible to thrive at both. My children take up so much of my life, as their complex needs require both a role of a conventional mother, but also that of a caregiver. I am and always have been determined to succeed professionally, providing a lifestyle to cherish, whilst giving them a well supported and beautiful experience. My work has been designed to fit in around them, and not so that I’m forcing them to sit in an office environment with distractions, but to make memories and thrive in beautiful environments, that mummy has strived to call her ‘workplace environment’. We’re a team, as we juggle the complexities of life together, creating special memories along the way #specialneedsmom #asd #autismawareness #autism #autistic #singleparent #femaleentrepreneur #femaleempowerment #bossmom #workingmom #lifestyle #family #autismfamily #specialneeds #ashbydelazouch #leicestershire #love #kidsautism
Embracing childhood 🌊Time flies. It doesn’t always feel like it…when bedtime takes forever and bad days leave you wondering if tomorrow will exist. But when I reflect on my 15 year olds childhood, I realise just how quickly it does go. Despite many limitations life can bring, making the most of each opportunity to create memories and encourage fun, is so important. Getting wrapped up in the efforts to complete each day successfully, can distract from actually remembering to live it, and remember that this is their childhood. It happens just once, so protect it ❤️#childhood #livinglife #beachlife #travel #familyvacation #family #love #lifestyle #autism #autismawareness #autistic #momlife #singlemomlife #autismblog #instagood #italy #sardinia
We did a thing! Well, lots of things. We planned a trip, we went on a plane which was the little ones first time, we drove on the wrong side of the road, we are staying in a new ‘home’, with new beds, and we are visiting a beach the little ones have never set foot on…..and so far, on day one, it’s going so well. Travelling with kids who have autism is daunting! But I’ve never let it stop Reggie & Rose from experiencing life to its fullest. We push the boundaries and we sometimes learn the hard way. However, when it works out, it’s truly wonderful and worth every bit of stress that comes alongside it 🌊#asd #autismtravel #autism #family #love #italiansdoitbetter #italy #familyholiday #autismacceptance #autistic #bossmom #singlemomlife #summer
Sibling love ❤️ These two very much have a love/hate relationship. One minute they support each other, the next they can’t stand to hear the other breathing. They flit between coping in each others company, to then finding each other extremely triggering, within minutes. It’s a relationship that keeps blossoming, and I hope over the years, they regulate their negative emotions towards each other better, and the positive side of their relationship flourishes 💫#siblinggoals #brotherlove #sisterlove #autistic #autism #autismawareness #asd #dyspraxia #globaldevelopmentaldelay #family #love #life #autismmom #autismblog
They don’t ‘look’ autistic 🤷🏽♀️A common misconception, is that disabilities can always been seen in some way or another. A lot of campaigning has gone into educating people that this isn’t the case.My children both have ‘masking’ on their documents, and on some occasions, when around them for a shirt period of time, you’ll struggle to see anything out of the ordinary. On other occasions, you’ll see every sign imaginable, and wonder what an earth is going on. They also receive tonnes of support. I don’t think I could have educated myself further on their diagnosis, and have worked with professionals within the local authority, NHS, as well as privately, to make sure I know every which way I can support them. Remember, just because you either don’t see it, understand it, or want to open your mind to a possibility you can’t fathom, it doesn’t mean it’s not there. 🙏🏻#autismawareness #asd #familylife #autismfamilies #ashbydelazouch #love #life #specialneeds #autistic
Keep believing 💫 When dealing with Autism pathways here in the UK, you can be left waiting for a very long time. That wait can leave you feeling fed up, questioning if you’ll ever receive the result needed and can be really demotivating. My advice through this phase, is to keep on top of the process, making sure you understand its current stage, next steps and if everything is moving forward…even if that is at a snails pace. If you’ve done all you can do, and you regularly add a little pressure through chasing relevant professionals, then let the process run its course without it taking over every ounce of your mental energy. Take a step back, live in the now, and find healthy distractions that make you smile. Ultimately, your children not only need a proactive parent fighting for their rights, they also need a healthy and happy one ❤️#autismmom #asd #autism #autismfamily #familylife #nhs #nhsheroes #autismpathway #ehcp #love #life #instagood #instareels
Bashing anxiety ❗️ Not knowing what’s coming next, who is where and what day it is, can really upset many individuals with Autism. Rose has had some form of schedule, day planner, or now & next since the age of 2. It’s always helped settle her anxiety, and therefore limited meltdowns. As she’s growing, and gaining new skills, I’ve decided to adapt the planner which used to contain images, and use basic language. I’ve used a family organiser from @whsmithofficial so that it’s easy for herself to replicate as she gets older and will hopefully encourage continuation into adulthood. It’s hanging in her bedroom, ready for her to cross of each day in the morning, and understand what’s happening so that she doesn’t open the door onto a daunting unknown each day#planneraddict #organisation #autism #autismawareness #asd #autismgirls #autismfamily #family #life #love #instagood
iPads down kids 🏏 Screen time has its place in many families, but it’s never been a prominent feature in ours. It’s been a pet peeve of mine since forever as I enjoy encouraging engagement, outside enjoyment and movementMy kids love nothing more than getting out, enjoying open spaces and discovering new things along the way. Sunday was spent with family this morning, and then a trip in their bikes to the local cricket ground. Reggie enjoyed seeing the benches my father produced and Rose liked meeting ‘new friends’ who had also risen down on their bikes 🚲 #family #ashbydelazouch #ashbycricketclub #autism #adventure #nature #momlife #love #life #lifestyle #naturefamily
One thing we shouldn’t forget 💭It’s so easy, during the chaos that is parenthood, to forget teaching our little ones positive behaviour’s and sharing our passions with them. My passion is reading! Showing them ways to unwind, install beneficial routines and genuinely interact with them, is incredibly humbling. We had read every book in the house, during our routine of bedtime reading. Me and Reggie visited our local @st_giles_trust bookstore, and purchased lots of new books. They pick one each that they would like to read that evening. We take it in turns to read each book, relax and then head to each others bed, after of course saying, ‘night night. Love you’. Our old routine involved a laptop, and it’s been lovely to scrap that, talk with each other, enjoy a good book and calmly wish each other a good sleep 💤 #positivethinking #family #familytime #motherhood #bossmom #asd #autismfamily #autismawareness #live #life #love #instagood #stgiles #reading #bedtimestories
