At the Clydesdale Parkinson’s Group January meeting (which also doubled as our Burn’s lunch), Jim Forrest stepped down as our group chairman after an incredible 8 years dedicated service to making us what we are today. We are forever grateful for all the hard work Jim and his wife Jennifer have done for the group and we are delighted to say they are continuing as active committee members going forward.
Jim is succeeded by the lovely Irene Miller, who know doubt will go from strength to strength as our new chairperson. We wish her all the luck in her new role! 🥂❤️
Some photos from the groups recent trip to the Burrell collection 🩵🌳🩵 situated within Po***ck Park which currently houses a beautiful selection of art, sculptures and antiquities.
Another round of big big thank yous to The Innerwheel Club Lanark, the Wilson Family and Ravenstruther Line Dancing for their continued support and very kind donations to our group. We are very grateful and these donations allow us to provide ongoing exercise classes for group members and also helped provide a beautiful afternoon tea at Lanark Golf Club for group members to socialise and have fun!

Clydesdale Parkinson’s Group would like to thank Foundation Scotland for their support and funding to help with the continued cost of many of our physical activity sessions available to members.
We have thus far been able to fund continued hydrotherapy sessions, including a physiotherapist to attend, fitness studio hire and instructor fees for our twice weekly exercise classes and purchase games equipment.
Without their support, we would not be able to support the physical and mental health and the wellbeing of our members and their families living with Parkinson’s disease.
Some more photos of our lovely Coronation afternoon tea 🫖🎂🤍
Well … what a glorious afternoon tea had by all at the Clydesdale Parkinson’s Group 🫖🥪🍰 to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. Another fantastic group event enjoyed by everyone who came 💙
Many many thanks to our committee for organising, people helping in the lead up to the day, on the day helpers, and around 100 group members and their families for such a fabulous event! Definitely one to be remembered!
Also many thanks to St Nicholas Church for use of the church hall, and to Forsyths bakers for our lovely cake 🎂!
If anyone has anymore photos they would like to add, please send them in via Facebook messenger.
Lovely visit from submariner Callum Forrest and Lt Robbins from Royal Navy HMS Vengeance to present our group with a cheque from fundraising while out at sea.
Many thanks to you and your shipmates for the ongoing support to our group!
Crew of HMS Vengeance fundraised £2,500 for South Lanarkshire Charity, Clydesdale Parkinson’s group.
The group was set up by James Forrest when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2018. To begin fundraising for the group his submariner grandson became the boats unofficial barber, charging shipmates £5 for haircuts.

An interesting read 📚
Knowledge about the role of the protein, alpha-synuclein, in Parkinson's has greatly advanced over the last 28 years.
Today, as we celebrate International Women’s Day, we take a look at the pioneering research done by Professor Maria Grazia Spillantini and her team. Since 1998, Parkinson's UK has funded many of her research projects into alpha-synuclein at the University of Cambridge.
Read about the key discoveries she has made along with other researchers in our blog and what they mean for the future of potential treatments for Parkinson's.

It’s a new month … and the start of spring awakening ☺️
Why not try something new?
Research into bacteria in the gut reveals how they potentially cause and affect progression of Parkinson’s Results from a large study show how changes in certain bacteria may play a part in the development and progression of Parkinson’s.
If anyone can share their story with Chris, it would be much appreciated :)
Thinking back to when you or your loved one was diagnosed with Parkinson’s...
Chris Holmes (Community Development Programme Manager) would like to hear people’s reflections about:
• How you felt when you heard about the diagnosis
• What you needed immediately after hearing the diagnosis
• Did you access what you needed?
• Did you know what you wanted and needed immediately after your diagnosis?
If you are happy to respond to Chris’s questions, please email her at [email protected] by 15th February 2023, or if you would prefer a chat, her phone number is 0344 225 9860.
If you could include whether you are a person with Parkinson’s or a family member, when the diagnosis was received and your approximate age bracket, that information would be useful.
Many thanks and please share.
Happy Burns Night from all at the Clydesdale Parkinson’s Group.
As always, a Iovely Burns lunch was enjoyed by the group at Lanark Golf Club last week. Thanks to all involved in making it another great afternoon!
“O Tam! had’st thou but been sae wise,
As taen thy ain wife Kate’s advice!
She tauld thee weel thou was a skellum,
A blethering, blustering, drunken blellum;
That frae November till October,
Ae market-day thou was na sober;
That ilka melder wi’ the Miller,
Thou sat as lang as thou had siller …”
Robert Burns.
Very insightful blog from Brian, discussing some of the non-motor symptoms of living with Parkinson’s disease.
Remember it’s ok not to be ok, and there is always help and support available. Parkinson’s UK in Scotland have advisors available to chat to on 0808 800 0303.
“I was not convinced I would ever publish this blog, but now that some months have passed and I am much more like my old self, I have decided to share this as it may help others who are or have been through similar experiences.”
Brian Carson, pictured, who lives with Parkinson's, has published a new blog post entitled ‘Is it OK to not be OK?’
Low mood, anxiety and depression, all non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s, affect lots of us and it is easy to think we are struggling alone. It can also be hard for some of us to talk about our mental health.
Brian charts his own experiences from last year, feeling down, and how he came to be in a better place by the end of 2022.

Remember, if you do need support, you can talk to our advisors on 0808 800 0303.
Happy new year to you all when it comes. May 2023 be happy & healthy.
