4-. Phyllidia Varicosa.
The nudibranchs are shellless marine gastropod mollusks, with striking colors and sinuous shapes.
There are more than 3000 different species, they are hermaphrodites, their size varies from just one centimeter to about 40 cm and they exist in waters up to 2500 meters

![[Cuttlefish Adventures Part 3 - Arms vs Tentacles]
I've spoken to people who didn't know the difference between tentacles and arms on cephalopoda (@fazilah_iqbal ) and honestly, it's hard to fault them. You can read more about cuttle-anatomy if you still can't tell the difference.
Here, Mr Chuthulu is flexing his 8 arms and 2 tentacles - usually in response to a perceived threat.
Recreational divers may be familiar with this scenario, you are rushing along a guided dive, snapping photos of schools of fish or interesting undersea beings (or sometimes people) but this was a really rare chance for me to just sit down with a highly intelligent creature and watch its behaviour for 8 minutes, not being rushed, just witnessing a very tiny bit of nature in a marine setting.
I feel really blessed.

Our day started before sunrise. Cruelly awoken at 4am, we walked sleepily in the dark towards our pick up point. Then a 30 minute boat journey helped wake us up.

As the sun slowly appeared in the horizon, we geared up, did our pre-dive safety check, dive briefing, and jumped into the water.
We swam to the bottom where we hovered and waited for our first sighting. We waited about 20 minutes, then boom! The first thresher shark gracefully swam in front of us, then another one came.
We transferred to a different area and this GIANT Manta Ray came and said hi to the group!
It was an awesome dive, indeed! 🤙

Thresher Sharks @ Malapascua 🦈
Getting up at 4:30am to dive & see the Thresher Sharks at Monad Shoal in Malapascua 🦈😍🙌🏼
We stayed at a depth of 18m to 30m and waited for the Thresher Sharks (if they would show up 😅) Thankfully, they did! 😍🦈🦈🦈
Visibility wasn’t the best on day 1 so may konting gulat factor when first Thresher Shark appeared on the right swimming across us 😅 then another one coming from left, then another one from below that swam up above us and then there were 2 then 3 at the same time in front of us 😍🦈😅
I was mesmerized & a little stunned & giddy & nervous all at the same time 🤪 All I can say in my head was: WOWWWWWWW” 🤩🙌🏼
[In a very exaggerated Greta way of saying “WOWWWWWW!” — Ganon! 🤣
I thought this one Thresher Shark which was bigger than me 😅 was going to swim above me head on 😳 then slowly it pivoted to the left 🙊 Phew! 😅 My heart rate went up ha! Hahahaha! 🤪
The sea mount acts as a cleaning area for the Sharks to remove the parasites from the skin, mouth and gills 🦈
We couldn’t get enough of them so we dove a 2nd time the next morning just to see more of the Thresher Sharks 🥰🦈
So grateful that we did because the visibility was much better on our second dive so we got better photos & videos of these majestic creatures 🤩🦈
Monad Shoal is the dive site with the most consistent sightings of Thresher Sharks in the world.
The Thresher sharks which are usually deep water creatures rise up to the mount before dawn and can be seen in just 20 meters of water 🦈
Aside from the Thresher Sharks, other sea life can be seen here as well, including the family of Devil, Eagle and Manta Rays. Hammerhead sharks can also sometimes be seen in the area on a seasonal basis 🏝
