The Ascension is a liturgical Solemnity celebrated by all the Christian Churches. It falls on the fortieth day after Easter Sunday. The Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord commemorates Jesus’ ascension into Heaven.
The Thursday in the sixth week of Easter is the day on which the feast is usually celebrated. However, the feast has been moved to the seventh Sunday of Easter. For this reason, it is now often referred to as “Ascension Sunday.”
“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.” Cardinal Mermillod. Take a chance on our raffle to celebrate this wonderful occasion.
One week after the Easter Triduum, Catholics celebrate the feast of Divine Mercy. Divine Mercy Sunday concludes the Octave of Easter, and focuses on Christ’s gift of mercy for the whole world. 🙏🛐
Divine Mercy Sunday is a day of prayer when we ask the Lord to renew our trust in His merciful love, so that we might live it more fully in our lives. Our willingness to make sacrifices out of love for Him in return for all that He has suffered for us helps us to understand how His mercy is to be shared with all.🤍❤️
For in the words of John Dickinson “United we stand, divided we fall.” Let us all show our alliance to our fellow brothers and sisters as we stand in solidarity against crime and violence💪🙏🛐
Sing Alleluia the Lord is risen. He’s risen indeed Allelulia🎶 May this Easter season bring you peace and increased faith. Blessed Easter to all from the Southern Vicariate 🤍
Palm Sunday is the last Sunday in Lent and the Sunday before Easter. It’s the beginning of Holy Week, the most important week of the year for Christians. The date changes yearly because Easter changes in relation to the Jewish holiday of Passover.
Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ arrival in Jerusalem for the Jewish holiday of Passover.
Jesus rode a young donkey into Jerusalem and was greeted by a large crowd with palm branches and people shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord,” “Blessed is the king of Israel!” and other expressions of praise (Matthew 21:9). The people put their coats and palm branches on the ground as Jesus passed by.
Blessed Palm Sunday to you all❤️

💜Welcome to the opening of the Lenten season; Ash Wednesday.
Ash Wednesday comes from the ancient Jewish tradition of penance and fasting. The practice includes the wearing of ashes on the head. The ashes symbolize the dust from which God made us. As the priest applies the ashes to a person's forehead, he speaks the words: "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
💜The Southern Vicariate would like to wish everyone a blessed and peaceful Lenten season💜
St. Valentine was a priest and physician in Rome. He comforted the martyrs during the persecution of Emperor Claudius II, the Goth. Eventually, St. Valentine was arrested, condemned to death for his faith, beaten with clubs, and finally beheaded on Feb. 14, AD 270. He was buried on the Flaminian Way. Later, Pope Julius I (333-356) built a basilica at the site which preserved St. Valentine's tomb. Archeological digs in the 1500s and 1800s have found evidence of the tomb of St. Valentine. However, in the thirteenth century, his relics were transferred to the Church of Saint Praxedes near the Basilica of St. Mary Major, where they remain today.
St. Valentine teaches us to love unconditionally despite all adversity. Let us use his example to love God and all those around us not only today but everyday.
Happy Valentines day from the Southern Vicariate❤️
