STEP ONE: SPREAD YOUR FEET Spread your toes and get to know your feet.

Spreading your feet is the opposite of scrunching them up, and fortunately there is a way to do this. With Yoga Toes ®! You can use your fingers to spread your toes but it’s harder to do. I found that spreading my toes dramatically improved foot mechanics, helping me to share the load across the balls of my feet. Young or old, Yoga Toes ® really help our feet, when used appropriately (I have no financial interest).

Widening my feet using Yoga Toes ® dramatically delays the onset of claudication when I run, and it has eliminated foot numbness, as I walk uphill or run, due to better blood flow through my feet. Spreading my toes separates those long bones in my feet, the metatarsals. This would reduce compression of blood vessels that lie between those metatarsals, to reduce resistance to blood flow. Furthermore, activation of my toes improved the conversation between my feet and the ground, which enhances the massaging of blood, and other tissue fluids, through my feet. These tools are great, but don’t go crazy at first. Little and often is the trick. You don’t want to irritate your feet by doing too much too soon. Start with a few sessions of several minutes a day, working up to 2 x 20 minutes or more.

The use of Yoga toes ® is nicely demonstrated in a short video on the FitOldDog YouTube channel, entitled “An Introductory Lesson On Yoga Toes by Rebecca, FitOldDog's Continuum and Dance Teacher.”

We will watch this during the event: An Introductory Lesson On Yoga Toes by Rebecca, FitOldDog's Continuum and Dance Teacher (youtube.com)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qolTBXG7NNU

I noticed that we made that video 12 years ago. It has over 25,000 views, 85 positive reviews, and no negative reviews. This means our work is helping people. Rebecca taught me so much about healthy movement, she even fixed my horrible posture. Rebecca does a great job of explaining things.

Get to know your feet and start spreading those toes and metatarsals, and move on to Step Two.”
