If you saw my last post with our lyrics to our new song 🎶 Oh, Christmas Treats... then you saw the inspiration for these cranberry cookies I made for the dogs.

However... I am not sharing the recipe. Why??? 🥴

Because along the way, I learned that substituting ingredients can cause things to not exactly go as planned. More specifically, flour. Did you know that different flours can absorb liquids differently??? Yeah, I don't recall learning that in 8th grade Home Ec.

I used brown rice flour instead of almond flour and no matter how many extra tablespoons of oil or eggs I added, it remained a bowl of sand. So, I worked around the recipe finally making something of my mess, and created these cute cookies. They taste HORRIBLE. And surprise... they are super dry! But the dogs liked them. They also like p**p, so ... yeah.

I'll try these again one day with the proper ingredients the recipe calls for. And if those turn out, I'll share them with you.

Wanted to share a heartwarming story… but

This is Rudy. He was the first golden retriever to be a part of our family. We welcomed him into our home just shy of his first birthday. While he was challenging at times, he brought us many years of joy, laughter, and many pounds of golden dog hair confetti he lovingly threw all over the house floors.

Once, he surfed the counter to steal a freshly baked torte, which was sitting out to cool before being frosted and enjoyed for a birthday celebration. He got that party started early, and he invited a co-conspirator, a visiting lab-pit bull mix to join him in the tasty treat. Together, they pointed paws at each other as who was to blame, but truth be told, we know it was Rudy who had the longer legs and athletic ability to acquire the lemony treasure on the counter that day.

He was patient while we removed the propellers of a rogue drone from his tail, a drone that flew on it’s maiden and final flight that day. He dined on a $400 peach. He was a fine decorator, sprinkling an entire 20oz jar of silver glitter all over the furniture and carpet of three rooms, which we found to our surprise after arriving home one evening. And yes, the glitter also appeared for several days in his p**p. We have many of wonderful memories of him…

…but this one here, in this photo, was one of my most cherished days with him. This afternoon was to be our last together. At nearly 14 years old, his health had been failing. We knew his time was coming where his fluffy tail would propel him into the clouds above, jumping over the rainbow bridge to join his little dachshund sister, Heidi. And on this beautiful sunny day in October, he and I sat outside for hours, enjoying our final afternoon and watching a colorful sunset together.

We set out a blanket, and a bluetooth radio, and any food I could get him to eat, since he stopped eating his own food at this point. Low and behold, it was Cheetos that he enjoyed, and it was Cheetos he got. But also on this day, I wanted to create something special with him beyond the memories of singing songs together and waiving at the neighbors as they passed by. I wanted to create art. So I popped back inside, grabbed a canvas and some kid’s finger paints, and we created a few colorful paw print art paintings. This one, with it’s neon pink, green, and blue colors, is my favorite. He patiently allowed me to hold his paw, painting the bottom, pressing it down, capturing the beautiful shape of his paw print and the furry fibers of his beautiful golden fur between the pads. This canvas has sat on my bookshelf every day since, on display for me to enjoy the sweet memories of my RudyRoo and our many colorful and enjoyable years together.

This Rudy Trick original artwork is one of my most favorite possessions. It’s also the inspiration behind the Pawcasso Art Collection, the latest collection that I created for Modern Dog Mom. Happy Thanksgiving from these two turkeys! They love their new bandanas from … they couldn’t be more perfectly fitting. Piper, the golden retriever who will eat just about everything she gets her paws on (except spinach, which we learned today), is our Official Turkey Tester. And Freddy, the most spoiled yorkie this side of the Atlantic Ocean, shares that Everyone is Thankful for Me! We hope your day is filled with family, friends, warm meals, and furry vacuum cleaners. 😂

I made these simple "Snow Ball" treats for Freddy and Piper and thought it would be fun to make them again this week. They are super easy to make and uses only 4 ingredients. Here's how I made them!

Gather:
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
3 tablespoons peanut butter (without xylitol or birch sugar!)
2 cups rolled oats
2/3 cup unsweetened shredded coconut

1. Mix applesauce, peanut butter and rolled oats in a food processor until well combined.
2. Roll the dough into a ball and separate evenly into 2 halves. Divide each half into two until you get 16 (big dogs) or 32 (little dogs) total pieces and roll into balls. This allows the balls to remain relatively consistent size by even distribution.
3. Dip each ball into a small bowl of water (if needed to dampen) and toss gently into the shredded coconut to coat.
4. Place each ball onto a cookie sheet and refrigerate for 20 minutes to harden.
5. Serve to your pups!

This might just be the most on yorkie brand photo I've ever captured of Freddy and I'm laughing hysterically because THIS is the life of a yorkie dog mom. I love him dearly and can't imagine life without him. He brings me joy and laughter every single day. And occasionally, he warrants a warning to take him outside immediately or I'd better protect my ears. ​​​​​​​​

Today is one of our pup's favorite holidays, National Peanut Butter Day! I made these simple coconut & peanut butter balls for Freddy a couple years ago and thought it would be fun to make them again for him and Piper to enjoy. They are super easy to make and uses only 4 simple ingredients. ​​​​​​​​

Freddy lended his paws to this year's pawprint ornament! He didn't mind sticking his paws into the dough since he was rewarded with lots of yummy treatos. I chose this neutral color bow because once the holidays are over, I'll hang this up in my office by one of his photos so I can see his cute little paw prints all year long.

*Pro Tip: For those of you who received one of these ornament kits in your Holiday Edition box this season, I found rolling out the dough with the included roller to leave some lines in the dough if pressed too hard. And a wooden roller would stick. So, the answer is to use a metal can of something in your kitchen, like a can of oil spray. Rolls smoothly and doesn't stick! And be sure to use foil underneath as well.
A few days to dry solid and you can add your bow to hang.
