✔️ Your credit score is calculated using a points-based system and derived from what’s in your credit file. Lenders use this to predict what sort of borrower you will be and will be more inclined to lend to you if you have a higher score.

🗓️ Credit history. Refers to how you’ve kept on top of your credits. If you’ve paid your bills on time every month – then you’re likely to have a good credit history.

💳 Used credit vs available credit. Say for example, if you have a credit card with a limit of £5000 and you’ve borrowed no more than £1500, you’re likely to do well in this aspect.

🖊️ Enquiries. Every time you apply for credit, you leave behind a footprint. If you’ve made too many applications over a short period of time, it may appear that you’re desperate for credit or struggling to pay bills.

🗃️ Public records. Things like bankruptcies, insolvencies and County Court Judgements (CCJs) can severely harm your score. On the positive however, being on the electoral register can boost your score as it allows lenders to check that you live at your given address.
