Brittany M. Greene
Visual artist with a speciality in ballerinas. Based in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.
No idea what I’m doing, just like I like it 🖤
2022 me set out to make 2023s art journey full of adventure and growth and today’s first clay portrait class was just that.
When life gets hard and things get worse before they get better, lean on the people and the things (this should really be passions haha) who love you the most.
Look who’s back - little miss hasn’t painted consistently since April 🤣
It’s slightly funny how I turn to art and painting, specifically watercolor, when I feel like I don’t have control over what’s going on around me. Because there is no “control” in art, just a lot of learning to love all stages, embrace mistakes and sticking through the suck.
So with that, I’m back? To painting, let’s not get too ambitious here and say posting 🤣
Miss you all 💜
Pinch me moment ✨
brought to you by
Guys, I can’t get over how cool and special this is. We started this project in January and I’ve been itching to share it with everyone since.
I’m so so thankful and grateful. The biggest thank you to Alicia and Patricia for trusting me, my art and vision throughout this process. This was the best partnership anyone could ask for.
and , a real life angel, artist and friend who continues to mention my name in rooms full of opportunities 😭💜
I’ll share full contents of and some of the preliminary sketches for the box soon. Still soaking it in and celebrating.
You owe it to yourself to be true to you. That’s it. The rest will fall in place.
Back from vacation and ready to create. I’m still doing watercolor but welcoming my forever evolving tinkerer spirit and looking to play with other mediums.
Every couple years, I like teaching myself a new medium. It’s my way of “exercising” new art muscles and fostering a creative environment. Think of it as field work lol.
Right now, I’ve completely thrown myself into building and am hunting down pottery and sculpting classes.
Anyone else here a tinkerer?
Airplane sketches ☺️
Sunrise over Georgetown ☀️
Watercolor on Cold Press
I love painting “suggestions” of things. Like this could be a crowd of people but if we’re being critical, they’re just a bunch of dots.

Preliminary painting (I’m going to tweak the browns, reds and blues)
Watercolor and ink on hot press?
Plein Air Sketching ✨
I’ve been more intentional lately about what I create but most importantly, where. Something about sketching outdoors brings me an incredible amount of joy. It’s peaceful yet challenging. I find that the work I create from those experiences while not my “best,” feel incredible. They’re more free and full of life.
For my upcoming “The DC I know” series, I’ve chosen to paint a few preliminary paintings on-site to further capture that energy.
Thanks for letting me crash your sketching party.
Hey there, Spring 🌸
Watercolor on either Hot Press or Mixed Media paper (not sure😅😂).
Hope to see some of you today! 🌸💜
Today’s my birthday🎈🥳🍀
Feeling grateful, blessed and everything in between.

Thank you all for being the best art community a girl could ask for💜
Spring in the City 🌸
Coming soon as a print & postcard & anything else I can think to put this beauty on.
Celebrate Black Makers ✨💫
Cup is feeling extra full after attending SHOP MADE IN DC] Celebrate Black Makers event. The panelists, all inspiring makers and businesses owners, dropped so many gems.
Biggest takeaways:
• Celebrate the small steps and milestones
• Invest in your business- Hire help

Thank you SHOP MADE IN DC] for putting this together and thank you panelists for the transparency and inspiration today. Day made. Time to get to work.
Coming to an XL canvas near you
I love a good pop art painting for home decor. Adds a little character, personality and warmth to a home ( fan over here 🤣🙋🏾♀️)
I’ve got my hands full with commissions right now so as a break, I’ll turn to digital art and play around with themes/ideas that are bouncing around in my head.
This turned out so fun though, I may need to add it to the “must paint on XL surface” list. Exaggerate the head and neck little … 💭
Monrovia, Liberia 🇱🇷
Watercolor on Arches Hot Press
I talk a lot about my moms side and my grandmother - how she’s influenced my art and the reason why I picked up watercolors in the first place - but my dads side, my Liberian side has played a big part in it too.
Every piece I make tells a story and I get that from my dad. I’ve yet to visit Liberia but his vivid tales of his journeys to school, local animals ans food, childhood friends and beachside memories have always made Liberia feel like home.
My pieces are also really vibrant. Something I’m sure has been influenced by all the colorful clothing my dads side and aunts wear.

🌸 Beautiful wildflower, grow untamed

Happy Friday y’all!
"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." - Frederick Douglass
Preliminary sketch of - a black-owned, independent bookstore. Thinking back to when anti-literacy laws existed and black people were beaten if found out they could read - and yet, they prevailed - moves me to chills.
This piece will be featured in my upcoming series, “The DC I Know.” A blend of portraits and cityscapes that capture key DC landmarks but also some of the lesser-known people, places and neighborhoods essential to DC’s heartbeat.
Ladies night 🖤
Happy 2022 ✨
Ya’ll. This year started off in a full sprint lol. It’s okay though. I’m ready and here for all it.
More than anything, I just want to thank this community. I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am for all the love and support. The way you all show up, support and celebrate my work gives the girl chills.
I’ve had some time to really sit and think. Think through me, my art and its purpose. I haven’t come up with a phrase to describe what it is I hope to do yet but I know my focus is to be intentional.
I want to create pieces that touch and uplift. Pieces that remind you smile. Pieces that inspire change.
It’s a journey though - one I’m so lucky to embark on together with all of you.
Couch sketches thanks to my mini portable set gifted to me a few years back.
Balancing my body’s need for rest while also fulfilling my desire to draw.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone! 🎄✨
I had hoped to write out something more thoughtful, reflecting on this year and all its growth/highlights + share my vision for next year + express my gratitude for all of you but Omarion man!
So instead we rest.
See you all in 2022 💜
An ode to that little (younger) girl
Art’s been one of my favorite ways to retreat. It’s calming and I really zone out once I’ve gotten the framework for my piece down.
My mother is from the US (Father from VA, mother from FL) and my father is from Liberia. My skin tone is representative of so much heritage, love, legacy and I didn’t always understand or love that growing up. My pieces are an ode to that little (younger) girl. The little girl that didn’t always fit in or fit one type of mold, box, category but who wanted to be seen and loved for just as she was. So overtime it’s become really important for me to not only draw brown girls but play with skin tones, body shapes... hairstyles. All of it.
Because, there’s so much beauty in all of it. All of those unique and delicate details are what make my pieces and my girls so special.
Why ballerinas? It’s probably my figure skating background. I love the drama and detail. I’ve started branching out but ballerinas are definitely a staple.
