The Cold Water Guy
Get cold, stay cool.
I thought cold water was meant to reduce stress levels…😂
It’s a family affair…
I could not be prouder of Alice (and her mum)!!🥹 Less than 4 months after giving birth, and with 3 kids under the age of 5 (2 of whom are super hyperactive) to take care of, she has just taken part in in honour (memory) of one of her best friends since birth, Stacey, who was sadly taken by cancer, during the pandemic, leaving behind many close family and friends, including her husband and young daughter. So very cruel.😔
Alice and her mum have just completed the 10K and have raised £370 to date, so thank you to everyone who donated. Your support really means a lot, and helps to make a difference.
If anyone wishes to donate, I think there is still time. Just copy the link below and paste it into your search bar, and it’ll take you to the page, or alternatively, head to my page ‘Gareth Oliver Comedy’ where you’ll find a post with a direct link.
I know there’s a cost of living crisis, so don’t feel bad if you have nothing to spare. Just send some love and positive energy!❤️🙏🙌
1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Every single pound you donate makes a difference to Cancer Research UK’s groundbreaking work.

Look who video called me, this afternoon… only and .watkins80 who are currently living it up in Norway on !!
They’d all been in the cold water and were calling to show off 🥶😂!
That was it… I had to head down to the beach to get in, myself! Soooooo good!!🥶🙌
Tomorrow morning, at 7am, I’m flying up to Edinburgh to join Regal Princess in Queensferry, where the water temperature is approximately 8°C, so that is going to be awesome!!🙌
Just 2 nights onboard the ship, before flying home from Paris on Friday, when all hell is gonna break loose!!!!😬😂😂😂😂😂 More about that, later…
He was meant to be filming me!!!😂😂😂
It just occurred to me that I can’t remember the last time I had a shower, that I didn’t turn to cold.
There was a time when it was very much a conscious decision to go cold, but now, it’s just what I do.
Whenever I feel negative, stressed, anxious, shattered etc… a cold shower is my go-to magic pill.
Research has discovered that it takes 3 weeks of continually doing something, to form a habit, and 3 months, to make it a permanent lifestyle change.
Is there something you want/need to change?
If you can commit to it for 21 days, you have a shot at changing your life.
For all things cold water therapy related, follow where I regularly post content on the benefits. If it’s not your thing, that’s ‘cool’.
It’s never easy. But it’s always rewarding. Turning that shower from hot to cold is effectively choosing to turn from negative to positive.
The lower you feel, the less you want to take that cold shower. But this is when you need it most.
It’s never easy, but it’s always rewarding!🥶🙌
The river was 5°C in Rotterdam. I went in for 7 minutes just up to my neck, as there was a lot of traffic in there and it didn’t feel the cleanest, however, it really cleansed my mind and my soul. I have never felt more at peace than in the couple of minutes following that dip!
Not the prettiest of backgrounds, but the river was pretty cold, today, here in Rotterdam.
I also had some rocks to contend with, as it was far too shallow, so I had to climb over them in order to get enough depth to comfortably get my shoulders under.
Felt super chilled in every sense of the word, during and afterwards (before the after-drop kicked in🥶😂).
Met up with a friend the other day, and enjoyed a dip in the sea in La Palma, Canary Islands.
The water was refreshing, but nowhere near cold enough to experience that amazing natural high, other than the one achieved by spending time with a good friend.
However… I am currently on a cruise ship, heading to Hamburg, where the water temperature is approximately 2°C. Check back in on Monday 13th February for an update.
It gonna be epic! In the meantime, stay cool guys.

Beautiful weather always makes it easier to get in the sea, but at low tide, it takes an age to walk out far enough to get your shoulders under.
Sea temperature was 8.8°C today and I did 13 minutes in. Just look at the colours. No filter needed on this video.
After I came out, I sat on the beach and ate chips with the kids. Beautiful.
That moment when you say to yourself “Right, it’s time. Let’s do this!” It’s more than just turning hot water to cold. It’s a decisive, empowering transition from relaxing within our comfort zone to stepping out and charging into battle.
The breath supercharges the mind and body!
I don’t feel sorry for those who are not remotely interested in entering the cold water. It’s simply because they don’t need it. I feel happy for them.
I feel sorry for those who ARE interested, but are too afraid to do it… because they need it most.
15 minutes in today. I wasn’t alone, either. There was a couple of teenagers who’d got in just before me, and naturally, I was interested as to why they would be in the sea at that age, at this time of year.
The girl told me she often gets in when she needs to clear her head. It was her friend’s second time in, this season, and he was making all of the noises you’d expect from an inexperienced cold water dipper, but after a couple of minutes, I pointed out that his breathing and ability to hold a conversation, had returned to normal.
There is calm on the other side of pain.
If you knew of a free magic pill, you’d share it with everyone, right?
There is nothing quite like the feeling of diving into cold water. It awakens the mind and body, instantly.
In that moment, nothing else matters. That is the power of being present.
That is the power of cold water.
This was just the first few seconds of yesterday’s 18 minute swim in the English Channel, which was 8.9°C.
In fact, the hardest part, was walking on the pebbles, on the way in/out.
Had an awesome week in Austria, skiing with a friend. The spa at was brilliant. I hopped between the sauna, steam room and cold plunge pool at regular intervals, and the contrasting temperatures provided me with such a natural high. It’s hard to explain, but it really does take the cold water therapy to another level.
I have a week at home now, before my next contract on a ship, so definitely gonna get a few sea swims in.
Currently in Austria, skiing with a friend. Staying in Hinterglemm at a wonderful hotel where I’ve been using the spa and switching between sauna and cold plunge pool at regular intervals.
It makes me feel really high and super chilled. Definitely going to do more of that going forward.
Alice took this picture today!
Can you spot me? It’s a bit like ‘Where’s Wally?’.
Mind you, after 10 minutes in, it was more like ‘Where’s Willy?’.
🥶😂😂😂😂😂
It was my first time in the sea, this year, as it’s been really rough until today. The waves were still crashing, but wow, it was glorious!🥶🙌🙌🙌
Earth, wind and fire… and water. Cold water.

This is where I woke up, this time, last week. Stunning Åndalsnes, Norway.
̊ndalsnes P&O Cruises
Heaven on Earth.
Andalsnes, Norway. The air temperature is -8°C and the wind chill factor is CRAZY!
Perfect opportunity to strip off and get in the water, to free(ze) the fear and negativity.
It’s not getting in the water that’s hard. It’s finding somewhere ‘safe’ to get in, then deciding to actually get in, when you’re fingers freeze within a few seconds of removing your gloves, getting undressed, and the REALLY hard part is getting dressed when you get out, and there’s no one with you to tie your shoe laces!!

Shower at home is definitely getting colder… I’d forgotten how good brain freeze feels!!🥶🙌😂
First cold shower in over a week!!🥶 WOW it was absolutely incredible!🙌
But nowhere near as cool as it’s gonna be on the 14th December, when I’m swimming in the Arctic Circle, in Tromsø, Northern Norway.😊
