Laura Kelly Co.
Hey! I'm Laura Kelly, a small business Coach and personal development teacher!
it was only through getting to know myself fully that I could start to see the mistreatment in my thoughts, in my actions, and in my self-sabotage.
the door opened in 2013 when I learned about the impact of positive and negative thought. that was the drop of personal development work that created a ripple effect in every aspect of my life over the next decade.
then in 2020, a journey of healing my relationship with food, body image, and movement began. I got to know all the parts of myself: my physical body, my spiritual body, my emotional body.
you don’t have to know exactly what you want to gain by getting to know yourself more deeply.
you can trust that the right questions will show themselves to you when you’re ready.
this “method” looks very different than force / restriction / 30 day plans of attack. this is kinder. this is sustainable. this isn’t quick fix, but you get to keep it for life.
👉 have a poke around my website if you’re curious to start the process of getting to know yourself more intimately. my sweet spot right now is the relationship between self & business — how your beliefs about yourself show up in the small business or side-hustle you’re building.

one of my big goals for 2023 is to create more spaces for shared learning. 🍎
the fire is in YOU ⚡️
maybe that’s why it felt so impossible when I first started doing this work in 2020. 🤯
I love that there are a hundred different things I could do in this space of being a personal development coach and teacher. I am learning so much and bringing my community members along for the ride — and it feels so good!
and if I’m being reaaaally honest, there’s a tiny whisper on my heart asking, “how can you bring this self-love / body image healing / unconditional acceptance work into the mix?”
I don’t have an answer on what that will look like yet, but I’m open to whatever comes next! 🤍
[BTW, prices are going up for CHEER CAMP in the new year. 👀 keep your eyes on it because there are only a few more weeks where you’ll be able to get in at the original rate! if you’re new to these parts, CHEER CAMP is where my personal development work goes down each and every month for $47/mo!]
a conversation I have with myself about once a month now.
if you knew what it was like to be consumed by thoughts of dieting and needing to make your body smaller, you’d know this is an absolute feat in healing. I feel like I’ve relearned how to think and feel about myself over the last 2.5 years. it’s a beautiful thing.
to me, it’s a reminder that we have the power to shift big things in our lives with the combination of intention setting and supportive spaces 🤍🤍
we vibe like that
😉
photo dump from a week in mexico! 🌴🍹☀️
I’m not a fixer, I’m a supporter.
that’s one big lesson I’ve been given in the last four years since becoming a coach, and specifically over the last 6 months of leading the CHEER CAMP community.
imposter syndrome tried to keep me from doing this work by telling me I needed to have every single thing in my own life figured out before I could possibly help another. wrong. it was never about the fixing. it was never about waiting for perfection before being able to forge my path as a coach.
how do we balance the pursuit of passion with the pursuit of money?
how do we stay in our integrity and then sell ourselves through our marketing?
today I’m feeling like a coach with more questions than answers.
maybe that’s the point.
your brave friend feels the fear just like you do. the only difference is they don’t see it as the end of the idea. for them, it’s only the beginning 👊
pass it on 📣

(hands down the hardest year, but I look back on it and see that there was so much love and memories I’d like to keep forever.)
repeat after me: the perfect moment does not exist. the perfect moment does not exist. the perfect moment does not exist.
double tap so I know I’m not alone here in this one 🦩
the prettiest out of office you ever did see, here on day two of a week-long retreat in mexico 🌞🍌
I built my entire business as a photographer on creating stellar experiences. I knew that word of mouth would carry me far if I could focus on that.
that business taught me so much about the power of the small details.
I took a second to appreciate how I’m doing the same right now in my second business. I care so much about the transformations that are happening in my work as a coach. I care so deeply about the experience that is unfolding at CHEER CAMP. I am trusting so much in the power of word of mouth here in this business, just like I did as a photographer.
and all the while, I am doing the work to move the needle forward to expand the reach of my impact. sometimes it all feels very exhausting, other times it feels like an extension of my passion and not at all like work.
gentle reminder that the progress doesn’t show up all clean and neat with a beautiful bow tied on it. sometimes it’s messy. sometimes it feels more like keeping the ship afloat than being the captain.
anyway, some lovely photos and kind words from .loves.life and her recent branding session at 🤍
earlier this week I ran an exercise at CHEER CAMP where we imagined a catty group chat who only had negative things to say about us.
this imaginary group watched and laughed when they saw us fail. they mocked us when we tried something new and it didn’t come out perfectly. they doubted our authenticity and poked fun in our direction when we showed up with vulnerability.
we looked at our lists, all those mean things that someone could say, putting us face to face with our biggest insecurities.
next we wrote down our goals, our dreams, our visions of purpose, and deepest passions.
and then we sat with this question: were their opinions WORTHY of distracting us from those goals?
were they worth sacrificing your dream for?
because in the moment is seems compelling, right? to avoid the feeling of embarrassment, to stay small and quiet and in the background where their judgement doesn’t have a chance to find you…
but when we looked at the words on paper, when we really heard them, they didn’t feel as powerful.
“the moment you’re willing to accept judgement in favour of what you truly want, you become immune.”
I like to think of the work we’re doing in CHEER CAMP as mindset support so that you can get out of your own way on route to your goals — and that latest group session was a great example of that. take a peek at some of the comments 👉👉 because they say it better than I ever could.
the doors are open for you the second you’re ready to change your relationship with judgement, failure, comparison, and self-doubt. head here 👉 cheercamp.laurakelly.co and send yourself to camp.
don’t misread this one for another message of hustle culture.
that’s not it, because the “projects” I’m talking about here could be as simple as incorporating a quick mindfulness practise into your busy day.
it could be discovering a hobby that you never plan to monetize.
it could be building a friendship with another parent who’s currently listed in your phone as “_____’s Mom.”
it could be a few pages of a book, a meal you made for yourself, an art form you’re exploring, a new challenge you’re embarking on…
this is not about burning out on your way through some list of achievements that will hopefully make you feel like you’ve “made it.”
this is about the power of making small shifts for big-feeling change.
at the end of the day, isn’t that what we’re trying to create?
are heading into grade 2 and grade 3!
after a long summer of recovery, I was *so* excited to be able to walk them to school this morning! it’s the little things ✨
thoughts from episode 168 🎧
I told my 6 year old daughter that I was bringing CHEER CAMP back and she told me she’d be the first one to sign up. “whatever your goal is,” she said, “you can minus one.”
better believe I bottled that moment up and vowed to keep it forever.
it’s true that my first job as a confidence coach was in raising two spirited, beautiful, intelligent children. I overheard jilly saying to her teacher that her mom “helps people be confident even when it’s hard” and doesn’t that just sum it all up?
“even when it’s hard…” (you know this hasn’t all been smooth sailing, friend)
I will be opening the doors to the new CHEER CAMP membership in just 3 days and it’s feeling excited, ready, and nervous all at the same time. I’ve been around long enough to know that’s a sign of something really good coming around the corner. 🤗🤭😅
I’m going to need your support more than ever in helping me get the word out 🤍🤍🤍
I have so much to pour into this new community and I believe so strongly in what we can accomplish together 🙌
📲 drop your email here and watch for the launch starting thursday! laurakelly.co/cheercamp
I’ve got an opening to start working together one-on-one starting later this month, just sayin! 🤩
send me a DM if you want to see what life & business coaching can look like for you ✨ (it’s way less intimidating than you think! promise!)
perfectionism is a mask for our lack of self-acceptance.
we hide our flaws and avoid opportunities where our weaknesses might show, even though we know deep down that practise is the only way to strengthen them.
💪 we see this when we are afraid to walk our inexperienced bodies into a gym.
📋 we see this when we put off teaching that workshop until we finally feel like a real “expert” in something.
📨 we see this when we keep a pitch email in draft for fear they’ll say no.
💸 we see this when we under-price our services or accept a discount because we tell ourselves that’s the only way we can compete in the market.
🤫 we see this when we stay quiet on a message that we feel really passionate about, worried that we aren’t qualified enough to speak on it; fearful that it would hurt more if no one listened than if we didn’t do it at all.
❌ acceptance and self compassion should not be dependent on the circumstances of your life changing in your favour. we don’t wait until the body matches the poster on the door to the gym. we don’t wait for the perfect living room backdrop to lead a live training. we don’t wait until we have a massive audience to start sharing our gifts with the world.
❌ we can’t afford to wait until we meet our ideals of perfection before starting.
loosen the grip a bit, and ask yourself where perfection is holding you back? follow it up by bringing a bit of acceptance into your day today. what’s one small thing that you can accept about where you are TODAY?
you can help spread the word that we are all WORTHY of love and acceptance by first demanding it from yourself.
it starts with you.
>>🎙 new episodes of my podcast, “you might not like it,” are coming each week. if you could use a confidence boost or a mindset shift, that’s the place to be. come hang! > 📣 hop on the waitlist for CHEER CAMP, my 6 month personal development program, at cheercamp.laurakelly.co! the next semester starts january 2022
I’ve been using social media differently for a few months now and you can ask erika jayne how many regrets I have about that. (NONE! not one! zero! 😽)
but here’s what you missed as of late:
1️⃣ my brother bought a jet ski! my bro is one of my best friends and he teaches me so much about living life to the fullest. this is a memory I’ll keep forever and ever!
2️⃣ if you told me a year ago I’d be taking the kids to the gatineau hills for a family hike, I’d have said you got the wrong girl. kinda sorta fell back in love with nature. long story, more later.
3️⃣ ever been invited to a bachelorette that was supposed to go all day but you drank too much pink champagne and had to be rescued by your husband at 4:30pm? cool, same. I hope you know that’s how I show my love.
4️⃣ six friends but don’t ask me how many laughs 👯♀️👯♀️👯♀️
5️⃣ brunch and park: that’s how we do sundays in the glebe ☕️
6️⃣ first visit to .co for our first (of many, I’m sure) mastermind sleepover! not pictured: the other two who must have had serious fomo because we had an awesome time.
7️⃣ the most beautiful wedding season isn’t slowing down any time soon. running two businesses is no joke but damnnnnn am I killing it right now. blessed to call this work.
8️⃣ nothing better than cheer camp wins 📣📣📣!!! the spring semester is wrapping up soon and fall 2021 will open for applications in less than a month! cheer camp is a 6 month personal development bootcamp to help you find clarity about your purpose and contentment in the everyday. follow your curiosity by following the link in my bio ✨
9️⃣ one of our babysitters is back in town and that means date night isn’t just a dream anymore, but a reality that we’re making happen often. drinks & the van gogh exhibit were a perfect combo.
so that’s me in a nutshell, friend! ✌️ have I missed anything in your life while I’ve been off my phone?
they’ve been storing up their silliness during lockdown y’all 😂
and are back at it and so am I 🙌 (it feels good to create again...!)
I’m gonna start offering “branding minis” for when you don’t need a full blown shoot but want professional shots of you doing your thing. the three of us know how powerful it is to share behind the scenes photos, and if you’re thinking you need exactly that for YOU and YOUR biz, hit me up in the DMs 📫
hot tip: book it for when you’re working so we can get the real look and feel of what you do! ✔️

took a break, and nothing fell apart.
maybe that’s one of my definitions of success. it looks a whole lot different than I thought it would but I’m really falling in love with setting my own pace, keeping my own score, and separating my self-worth from my business growth.
if you need an excuse to do the same, here it is.

2020 mood in a nutshell.
someone very wise told me that if I wasn’t cringed-out by some of my past words/thoughts/actions, I simply wasn’t growing enough. AMEN, friend.
I can see it clearly now that some of the growth in my business from the last year couldn’t have happened sooner because I wasn’t the person I needed to be to make it happen. I’m normalizing change and growth even when it feels super uncomfortable!
are you here for something similar?
✌️✌️✌️

no one is going to give you permission.
you’ve got to jump over that hurdle if you’re patiently waiting for someone to save you, or tell you you’re good enough, or agree that you’re ready.
so if you’re feeling like you don’t measure up, buy the URL anyway.
if you’re second guessing whether you have anything new to say, buy the mic and start talking.
if you feel like an imposter in your own skin, book the shoot.
if you’ve created a weird side-step title for yourself because you’re too afraid to say the real term, START USING IT.
no one is going to give you permission.
so you know what’s better than waiting? giving that permission to yourself. do the dang thing. and then get up and do it again the next day.

so yesterday during my weekly coworking experience at , my beautiful friend reads me a poem from her book after learning I’m a scorpio.
we spend more time talking about how we’re both enneagram 7s, than we do about our astrological signs. but when she found out I was a november baby, she told me this poem could literally be my about page.
then we pass the book to .bonhamcarter, also joining us in the sunny corner of the second floor deck. she makes the same face as lana when reading this poem...
scroll to the third photo to read it, and tell me if you agree that’s me in a nutshell 🙊🙊
(side note: these friendships are on my list of the top 10 things about 2020. having their genius minds in my corner is a blessing I’m thankful for on the daily.)
tomorrow’s podcast episode is going to be called: “don’t get it twisted.” 🎧
for the first time I’m going to open up about having two businesses at once, and how one pays for me to build the other.
I’m also going to talk about how it feels to juggle the two, plus having a full and rich life on the fringe. I thought of this episode while roasting marshmallows on a random wednesday night, and knew it would be an important topic to record.
don’t get it twisted, evolving your business isn’t easy. and the ‘gram is a place where the pretty, polished moments are immortalized to paint one big picture that’s missing a lot of detail.
this episode will pair perfectly with a walk, and it’ll be ready for you by lunch.
sound like something you’ll tune into??
