Now that it's passed Midnight and officially Aug 13th, I want to wish a most sincere Happy Birthday to my one true partner in so many of life's adventures. Without Wendy Sieglein Leonard, sometimes I think I would be lost. I've never met someone so dedicated to the well being of others, that she often sacrifices her own happiness just to make others smile. She changed who I was, many years ago, into who I am today. I like who I am, because of her. No card, no gift, no meal or weekend getaway could ever express how she makes me feel, or what I want for her in life. She has paid some heavy dues along her journey, and I can only hope I've done my part to be the best distraction, the best travel companion, the best business partner, and most importantly, the best friend I can be. It goes without saying Blondie, I love you, and Happy Birthday!!! Enjoy your one month of being the same age as me 🎅🏻❤️🤶

I love what I do and who I get to meet.

Today, I made a new memory. A young lady in her teens gifted me with a coin today for spreading joy. In the last 4 years she has gifted 4000+ coins from CA to NM and up and down the east coast mostly to police members, fire fighters and service providers.

Thank you!

So, as I sit here at the North Pole South, as I call it, I get the opportunity to reflect on the last 2 months. There were so many wonderful things that happened, several people I really missed because I chose to scale down my events this year, and overall a true sense of Joy in my heart that I made it thru another season, and gave others the hopes and dreams, by creating the memories that will last forever. I want to thank so many people for helping, and being a part of our brand. Gerri Lynn came on board as our newest Elf and did a fantastic job. My Brothers in Red from the Polar Express at the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, Charlene Getner for her continued Elf support, and those folks who at 630am this morning, met with me, Sean Marsh and Mark Brydge at the Shelter, so we could together bring some Christmas magic into the hearts of those struggling. But thru it all, my rock, Wendy Sieglein Leonard was there every day, making sure I had what I needed, to do the things I do. She once again perfected the role she was born to do, Mrs Claus. Nobody gives back or does more than she has and will continue to do. Starting the Believable Foundation was a huge step for us, and without the support of our Board Members Gerri, Marsha Wight Wise and Mark Nettleship, we wouldn't be able to do all of the things we did this year, or plan to do moving forward. We have already begun working on our Christmas Trees for the Kennedy Krieger Institute and their Festival of Trees in Timonium. This year's theme (2024) will be the Moose, as in "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmoose, everywhere you go!" Say what you want, that was Lorna Lee Orick idea and I more than love it. There will be a huge toy drive in early March in Rehobeth Beach, at the Santa Shell-abration. The DelMarVa Santas and the Believable Foundation are co-hosts for that event. Another huge toy drive will happen again in Cape Cod in May with the The North East Santas and Believable Foundation. Mrs Claus and I will continue to teach at Santa Schools around the country, and we already have Memphis and Lancaster on our schedule. This life is one that has no rest. We work 365/24/7 to try and bring some Hope into everyone who crosses our path. I'm good with that. It needs to happen, and each and every one of you are welcome to join our ride, and be a part of our journey. The pillow cases we donate to area Pediatric Units, that broke the 10,000 mark this year. Not too bad for 4 1/2 years. Love to all of you, and of course, Merry Christmas. BKM

Twas the night before Christmas
And at the North Pole
Mrs Claus was remembering
Their sweet little souls.

The children had hugged her
And said goodbye with a tear
She won't see them again
Until the end of next year.

No more pictures or stories
No more long list of names
Gingerbread scented snuggles
Or cute Reindeer games.

She will think of them often
And hope they'll remember
The moments they shared
That fun day in December.

She hopes that this Christmas
They may stop and pause
And know how truly loved
They are by Mrs Claus 🤶 💖

A little holiday humor…

20/12/2023

I never knew the true origin of Rudolph. How beautiful!

As the holiday season of 1938 came to Chicago, Bob May wasn’t feeling much comfort or joy. A 34-year-old ad writer for Montgomery Ward, May was exhausted and nearly broke. His wife, Evelyn, was bedridden, on the losing end of a two-year battle with cancer. This left Bob to look after their four-year old-daughter, Barbara.

One night, Barbara asked her father, “Why isn’t my mommy like everybody else’s mommy?” As he struggled to answer his daughter’s question, Bob remembered the pain of his own childhood. A small, sickly boy, he was constantly picked on and called names. But he wanted to give his daughter hope, and show her that being different was nothing to be ashamed of. More than that, he wanted her to know that he loved her and would always take care of her. So he began to spin a tale about a reindeer with a bright red nose who found a special place on Santa’s team. Barbara loved the story so much that she made her father tell it every night before bedtime. As he did, it grew more elaborate. Because he couldn’t afford to buy his daughter a gift for Christmas, Bob decided to turn the story into a homemade picture book.

In early December, Bob’s wife died. Though he was heartbroken, he kept working on the book for his daughter. A few days before Christmas, he reluctantly attended a company party at Montgomery Ward. His co-workers encouraged him to share the story he’d written. After he read it, there was a standing ovation. Everyone wanted copies of their own. Montgomery Ward bought the rights to the book from their debt-ridden employee. Over the next six years, at Christmas, they gave away six million copies of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer to shoppers. Every major publishing house in the country was making offers to obtain the book. In an incredible display of good will, the head of the department store returned all rights to Bob May. Four years later, Rudolph had made him into a millionaire.

Now remarried with a growing family, May felt blessed by his good fortune. But there was more to come. His brother-in-law, a successful songwriter named Johnny Marks, set the uplifting story to music. The song was pitched to artists from Bing Crosby on down. They all passed. Finally, Marks approached Gene Autry. The cowboy star had scored a holiday hit with “Here Comes Santa Claus” a few years before. Like the others, Autry wasn’t impressed with the song about the misfit reindeer. Marks begged him to give it a second listen. Autry played it for his wife, Ina. She was so touched by the line “They wouldn’t let poor Rudolph play in any reindeer games” that she insisted her husband record the tune.

Within a few years, it had become the second best-selling Christmas song ever, right behind “White Christmas.” Since then, Rudolph has come to life in TV specials, cartoons, movies, toys, games, coloring books, greeting cards and even a Ringling Bros. circus act. The little red-nosed reindeer dreamed up by Bob May and immortalized in song by Johnny Marks has come to symbolize Christmas as much as Santa Claus, evergreen trees and presents. As the last line of the song says, “He’ll go down in history.”

It’s important to share about some of the amazing people I meet in my journey. Yesterday at the Christmas in July craft show I met a remarkable 8 year old girl. She was dressed in her cheer uniform and she brought 8 boxes of chocolate bars to sell to support her cheer squad. Each box had 60 candy bars. Though her mother was with her, she is the one who talked comfortably with each attendee on whether they would buy one ( Would you buy a candy bar to support my cheer squad? They are each only $1 and I would appreciate it very much.) She thanked every customer and made direct eye contact.

As I passed her she caught my attention and said “Mrs Claus, when I sell out I want to tell you what I want for Christmas as I already know. I’ve been good all year and will continue to be.” I told her that Santa was in the back of the hall and that I hoped she would visit and tell both of us.

An hour and half later she came to the sleigh having sold all 480 candy bars. In case you are curious, her Christmas wish is for a big dolly, half the size she is.

I can’t wait to see this young lady grown up. She is going to do great things!
