York wanted to share this:
I see this banner on my way home from work everyday but today it made me reminisce about growing up in Cedar Bluff.
I was born and raised on Old Kentucky Turnpike and have lived here most of the 66 years the Lord has blessed me with. I look back on the years and realize the wonderful memories this small sleepy town has given me and I would not trade them for anything.
I was able to walk to school everyday, Charlie Kitts paving the way to and fro. I went to Warner’s Frozen Foods after school to see who had killed the biggest deer that day or whose hog made the most sausage.
My friends and I played in the Clinch and rode “car tops” down the river. I rode my spider bike with a banana seat over to The Higginbottom/Bane Mill to visit with the manager, Mr. White and we sat by the pot belly stove. Coy Horn’s auction was where I bought glass plates by the box full to play frisbee with until I saw the blue lights of Charlie Kitt’s cruiser. Mommy and Daddy Rat’s arcade was where I played pinball for hours with my friends or by myself. I played on Glen Hagy’s Cedar Bluff Blue Devils football team, I can still remember the cheerleaders chanting
“ WE’RE ROUGH, WE’RE TOUGH, WE’RE FROM CEDAR BLUFF”.
I know things are forever changing and evolving but Cedar Bluff was once a town where kids played on the streets and had places to gather.
I am no longer content with the division in our town. As a member of the town council I want to make Cedar Bluff great again! I want the banner to ring loud and true, UNITED AS ONE,
