Today is the day! Brian VanderSchuur and I are off to Leslie Mi for the 2024 Midwest auctioneers round-up and the Midwest auctioneers championship!

Here is a look at my 2 items for the championship.

It was a hot one today! Saginaw county fair with Mr Jason Marsh.
Auction #3 of 4 this week! Tomorrow I’m headed for Owosso.

Big hay sale today in Ravenna! If you need hay hurry over we start at 3:30. Livestock sells at 5pm.

Last night met two mile markers. For me it was my 42nd auction sale for the year. I am a half way to my yearly goal!

Last night also marks the 40th year and counting that Art Smith Auctioneers has conducted the Berlin fair 4-H auction!

We cannot thank everyone who supported efforts to raise funds for Tyler Roden and his newborn following the loss of their fiancee and mother, Chanse, enough. Tears aren’t something you typically see at the stockyards, but they were flowing last night as the community came together for a great cause.

The special heifer pictured below sold a total of 15 times last night to raise $10,700 through the ring. Several individuals contributed additional donations and Ravenna Auction added $1,000 bringing the total donation to the Roden family to $12,335.

This effort took an entire community and we’re proud to be part of it. Some very special individuals played a key role in making this happen as it wouldn’t have been possible without the initial calf donation from Paulen Farms/Claytop Holsteins, the initial sale organization by Stacie Lafferty and the initial purchase by Hersh Trucking, LLC/Roy & Tracy Hershberger. Thank you to everyone who contributed:

To end the bidding in an incredibly special way, Eric and Allison Egeler made the final sale ring purchase and committed to feeding the calf out, reselling her and donating all of the sale proceeds to the Roden family.

Join us for the Michigan Auctioneer Championship, Michigan Ringman Championship and MAA Benefit Auction! The Michigan Auctioneers Association (MAA) will host this great event that showcases some of the best auctioneers in Michigan’s Auction Industry!

The general public and media are also invited to attend the Michigan Auctioneer Championship, Ringman Championship & Fun Auction! The event will be held on Friday, February 2 from 6:30 to approx. 10:00 p.m. (Limited Seating).Men and Women will compete to find out who is the Best of the Best! The Top Auctioneer will become the Michigan Auctioneer Champion and will compete at the International Auctioneer Championship in July.

This event will feature many great items for auction as well as some great entertainment showcasing the best auctioneers and ringmen in the industry!

This Auction Event is Open to the Public for free admission.

For the past couple of years I have set goals for how many auctions I need to work in a year. Last year 2022, my goal was 10. This year my goal was 20. Today was a big day for me in multiple ways; I sold livestock professionally for the first time and I achieved my goal of 20 auctions.
With 3 and half months left in 2023, its looking like I will be able to exceed my yearly goal again.
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has made this possible!
I would be amiss if I didn't also extend my gratitude to my friends and family for all your kind words of encouragement!

Hay hay! It's been in the works for a couple of weeks now. As of today I will be selling hay at the Ravenna sale barn every Monday. Many many thanks to my friend Luke Meyers for the referral!
