Let us break free the stereotypical thoughts ✨
Manjamma Jogathi is a dancer of Jogathi Nritya, a folk dance form of North Karnataka. In 2019, she became the first trans woman to be the president of Karnataka Janapada Academy, state's top institution for folk arts. In January 2021, she won Padma Shri award for her contribution to the field of folk arts.
Let's know about Narthaki Nataraj, She is a bharatnatyam dancer, who became aware of her feminine side in the age of 10. From being the first transgender artiste to have ever received the prestigious Padma Shri award (2019) to now becoming a member of the State Development Policy Council (SDPC) of the Tamil Nadu government, Narthaki Nataraj has never restricted herself to the assigned gender labels and roles in society.
The 'dancing queens' is a brainchild of a Transgender activist Abhina Aher which was thereafter built with Urmi Jadhav and Madhuri Sarode Sharma.
They were founded in 2009 and launched in 2013. The gay and transgender people are often called as queens, hence they got the name.
Days like these makes me realize, how beautiful the world would have been, if everyone celebrated each and every human's art and uniqueness despite all the differences, everyday.
Happy International Dance Day❤

Samtvah is an initiative by the Post graduate students of Kristu Jayanti College, Bengaluru. It emphasizes on providing a platform for the Transgender community to share their art, values, cultures and beliefs among the public.
Even with the support of governmental policies, there are several other opportunities that are missed out by a transgender person in their life due to their gender identity. A change is necessary not just in terms of policies, but also in terms of the attitude of the public towards the community. Let's not just propagate Samatvah, but draw on Samatvah.
