462km in Cape Town 🇿🇦

I’m a 2:29 marathoner and recently ran 462km kilometres in 21 days on a 3 week training camp in Cape Town in preparation for the 2024 london marathon and here’s 3 things I learnt.

1) Training in the heat is tough, electrolytes were my best friend as well as early morning starts – this was key to making sure I could hit my training effectively. I’m not familiar with super early starts, but this was a must to make sure my sessions were of the same standard as in my home environment.

2) If you relax, smile and commit to it – you can do really, really hard things. For example I ran 24 miles solo on my 24th birthday, that’s almost 39km – of course it was tough but when you look up, smile, and realise that you can change anything by changing your mind – it makes a whole lot of difference, I even got a tiny little smile tattoo to remind myself of this.

3) Have fun with it. Running has been a huge part of my life for over 15 years, and at points, it’s broken me and I have hated it. I have learnt a lot and I promise you – if you have fun with it and as cliché as it sounds, enjoy the process and not just the destination, you’ll go a whole lot further.

Lots of love,
