Welcome to "OK, Boomers!"
Well...let's own it. We want to be "OK," don't we? Well, I do! Because, if you're an "OK Boomer," you can do more things, have fewer aches, pains, and illnesses, and be functional longer. Alive is one thing, functionally fit is another.
So, are you like me and need more exercise? Well, I have a couple suggestions:
1) Play this Hip-Hop music video on your phone (or pick some other upbeat music you like) and bounce to the rhythm as you do chores around the house. I call it "Hip-Hop Housework."
It really doesn't matter how you look, it only matters that you move yourbody and get your heart rate up for 3 fifteen-minute "recess" periods every day.
2) Remember walking or riding your bike to school and back every day? Try this. I used Googlemaps (ask your grandkids to help you) to figure out how far my childhood house was to the school I walked to every day. I found out it was 1.2 miles. Next, find a coffee shop or convenience store that is half that distance away. So, every morning, start walking (or biking) to "school" again. So, this morning I walked .6 miles to the coffeeshop, had an iced tea, then walked back.
Actually, I upped my game a little by buying two one-gallon water jugs and carried them home in my rucksack up the gentle incline to my house. You don't have to have a step climber machine or gym membership. Just buy water and walk!
For my Noon recess (I have a fun alarm programmed into my phone at 10, Noon, and 2pm), I "danced" while holding 3 lb. hand weights (just use soup cans, if you don't have them). My 30-something son was quite amused watching me. But, I don't care.
My 2pm "recess"was "Hip-Hop Housework," just folding and putting away laundry while bouncing and moving to the music.
At 5pm I will "walk home," making the loop around my neighborhood, down and up the small hill and over to the park and back.
So, join the fun!

Nature. It's still out there, and on every social media platform I am hearing people getting ready to go camping, boating, fishing, hiking, backpacking, picnicking exploring, surfing, biking, you name it...it's Summer and there's no better way to heal our grieving hearts and stress-worn bodies and minds than to experience Nature. So, make a plan and get out there!
If you need ideas about where to go, BrenSports.com has links to nonprofit sites that can help you find options near you. Many favorite national parks are already booked, but, that doesn't mean there's nowhere left to have an adventure!
Try the "Discover the Forest" link on our links page. It's a resource created by the Ad Council and the U.S. Forest Service, to help families find fun, safe, and educational places in nature near them.
Another great information resource to find places to go is the app called "Alltrails" that offers information on alk kinds of trails in Nature, from an easy stroll to a rigorous, multi-day challenge.
If you got out of shape during 2020+, just begin again! Start walking evey day. Build up those soft muscles and burn off that pandemic pudge.
