20 LIFE-SAVING MEDICATION TIPS YOU PROBABLY DIDN'T KNOW.

1. Paracetamol will work faster on an empty stomach.

2. Eating oily food and taking malaria medication like Artemether/lumefantrine (e.g Coartem, Lonart etc) will make it work better.

3. Don’t take NSAIDs (e.g Brufen, indocid, Diclofenac) on an empty stomach. They will irritate your stomach.

4. Dexamethasone and Prednisolone increases blood sugar and should not be taken by someone who is diabetic (If taken, the blood sugar should seriously be monitored). Talk to your healthcare provider about that.

5. Prednisolone interacts with birth control pills warfarin, NSAIDs & Digoxin always tell your prescriber drug history.

6. Don’t take take Dexamethasone or Prednisolone for weight gain. Using it for such purpose will only harm you. They are highly prescription 💊 drugs and works by reducing your immune system and are only given when benefits of using them outweighs the risks. Using it on your own is bad and very dangerous.

7. If you are taking Magnesium trisilicate (MMT, Polygel) and another drug, take the Polygel at least 3hrs before taking the drug or 2hrs after taking the drug.

8. Take tetracycline 2hrs before or 6hrs after taking an antacid(e.g MMT, Polygel, Gaviscon , Relcer gel etc.)

9. Take tetracycline 2hrs before or 3 hour after when taking zinc containing products(e.g Multivitamins).

14. Don’t take more than 2tablets of paracetamol at once. It’s also important u know that the highest daily dose of paracetamol you can take is 3000mg/day and that’s 6tabs (i.e 500mg). Except u are being supervised by a healthcare provider, above that u’re doing damage to your liver.

15. Don’t take Ciprofloxacin for menstrual pain. Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic and not a painkiller like paracetamol or mefenamic acid.

16. Taking Diclofenac for ulcer pain is suicidal. Diclofenac is a painkiller yes, but it can cause ulcer so it’s wrong to take it for ulcer pain.

MENSTRUAL CRAMPS

Menstrual cramps (dysmenorrhea) are throbbing or cramping pains in the lower abdomen. Many women experience Menstrual cramps just before and during their menstrual periods.

For some women, the discomfort is merely annoying. For others, Menstrual cramps can be severe enough to interfere with everyday activities for a few days every month.

Menstrual cramps may be caused by identifiable problems, such as Endometriosis or Uterine fibroids. Treating any underlying cause is key to reducing the pain. Menstrual cramps that aren't caused by an underlying condition tend to lessen with age and often improve once a woman has given birth.

SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of Menstrual cramps include:

Throbbing or cramping pain in your lower abdomen that may be intense
Dull, constant ache
Pain that radiates to your lower back and thighs
Some women also experience:

Nausea
Loose stools
Headache
CAUSES
During your menstrual period, your uterus contracts to help expel its lining. Hormone-like substances (prostaglandins) involved in pain and inflammation trigger the uterine muscle contractions. Higher levels of prostaglandins are associated with more-severe Menstrual cramps.

Severe contractions may constrict the blood vessels feeding the uterus. The resulting pain can be compared to the Chest pain that occurs when blocked blood vessels starve portions of the heart of food and oxygen.

Menstrual cramps may also be caused by:

Endometriosis. In this painful condition, the tissue that lines your uterus becomes implanted outside your uterus, most commonly on your fallopian tubes, ovaries or the tissue lining your pelvis.
Uterine fibroids. These noncancerous growths in the wall of the uterus may be the cause of pain.
Adenomyosis. In this condition, the tissue that lines your uterus begins to grow into the muscular walls of the uterus.
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). This infection of the female reproductive organs is usually caused by sexually transmitted bacteria.
Cervical stenosis. In some women, the opening of the cervix may be so small that it impedes menstrual flow, causing a painful increase of pressure within the uterus.

RISK FACTORS
You may be at greater risk of Menstrual cramps if:

You're younger than age 30
You started puberty early, at age 11 or younger
You have heavy bleeding during periods (Menorrhagia)
You have irregular menstrual bleeding (metrorrhagia)
You've never given birth
You have a family history of dysmenorrhea
You're a smoker
Dizziness

TREATMENT
Pain relievers. Your doctor may suggest taking over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) or naproxen sodium (Aleve), at regular doses starting the day before you expect your period to begin. Prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as mefenamic acid (Ponstel), also are available. If you can't take NSAIDs, acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) may lessen your pain.

Start taking the pain reliever at the beginning of your period, or as soon as you feel symptoms, and continue taking the medicine as directed for two to three days, or until your symptoms have gone away.

Things you may want to try at home include:

Exercise. Studies have found that physical activity may ease the pain of Menstrual cramps.
Heat. Soaking in a hot bath or using a heating pad, hot water bottle or heat patch on your lower abdomen may ease Menstrual cramps. Applying heat may be just as effective as over-the-counter pain medication for relieving Menstrual cramps.
Dietary supplements. A number of studies have indicated that vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B-1 (thiamine), vitamin B-6 and magnesium supplements may effectively reduce Menstrual cramps.
Avoiding alcohol and to***co. These substances can make Menstrual cramps worse.
Reducing stress. Psychological stress may increase your risk of Menstrual cramps and their severity.

Type 2 diabetes, also known as adult-onset diabetes or non-insulin-dependent diabetes, occurs when the body's cells become resistant to the effects of insulin or when the pancreas doesn't produce enough insulin to maintain normal blood sugar levels. Several factors contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes:

1. **Insulin Resistance:** Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas, and its primary role is to regulate the absorption of glucose (sugar) from the bloodstream into the cells for energy. In type 2 diabetes, the cells become resistant to the action of insulin, preventing glucose from entering the cells efficiently. As a result, blood sugar levels rise.

2. **Genetic Factors:** There is a genetic component to type 2 diabetes. If you have a family history of the condition, you may have an increased risk of developing it. Certain genes can make you more susceptible to insulin resistance and the development of diabetes.

3. **Obesity and Sedentary Lifestyle:** Being overweight or obese is a significant risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Excess body fat, particularly around the abdomen, contributes to insulin resistance. Lack of physical activity and leading a sedentary lifestyle also increase the risk of developing diabetes.

4. **Unhealthy Diet:** Consuming a diet high in refined carbohydrates, unhealthy fats, sugar, and processed foods can contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes. These foods can lead to obesity, insulin resistance, and elevated blood sugar levels.

5. **Age and Ethnicity:** The risk of developing type 2 diabetes increases with age, particularly after the age of 45. Certain ethnic groups, such as African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Asian Americans, have a higher predisposition to developing the condition.

6. **Medical Conditions:** Certain medical conditions, such as polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) and metabolic syndrome, increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. These conditions are associated with insulin resistance and hormonal imbalances.

7. **Gestational Diabetes:** Women who develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life. Additionally, children born to mothers with gestational diabetes may have a higher risk of developing the condition.

It's important to note that while these factors increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, not everyone with these risk factors will develop the condition. Making healthy lifestyle choices, such as maintaining a balanced diet, engaging in regular physical activity, and maintaining a healthy weight, can help reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes or manage the condition if already diagnosed.

Here are 20 facts you should know about anthrax:

1. Anthrax is a serious infectious disease caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis.

2. Anthrax occurs naturally in soil and can infect animals, including livestock, sheep, goats, and deer.

3. Humans can contract anthrax by handling infected animals or contaminated animal products, or by inhaling or ingesting anthrax spores.

4. There are three forms of anthrax: cutaneous (skin), inhalation (lungs), and gastrointestinal (digestive system).

5. Cutaneous anthrax is the most common form and is caused by contact of anthrax spores with the skin. It presents as a small, painless black ulcer.

6. Inhalation anthrax is the most serious form and is caused by inhaling anthrax spores. It can cause fever, cough, shortness of breath, and chest pain.

7. Gastrointestinal anthrax is caused by ingesting anthrax spores and can cause nausea, vomiting, fever, and bloody diarrhea.

8. Anthrax can be treated with antibiotics, but early diagnosis and treatment are essential.

9. Anthrax can also be used as a biological weapon. In 2001, anthrax spores were sent through the mail in the United States, killing five people.

10. There is a vaccine available to protect against anthrax, but it is not routinely recommended for the general population.

11. Anthrax is a zoonotic disease, meaning that it can be transmitted from animals to humans.

12. Anthrax spores are very hardy and can survive in the environment for many years.

13. The first known description of anthrax was in 1570 BC by the Egyptians.

14. Anthrax was used as a biological weapon in World War I.

15. The largest anthrax outbreak in human history occurred in the Soviet Union in 1979, killing over 60 people.

16. Anthrax is endemic in many parts of the world, including Asia, Africa, and South America.

17. Anthrax is rare in the United States, but cases do occur periodically.

18. Anthrax can be diagnosed with a variety of tests, including blood cultures, skin biopsies, and chest X-rays.

19. Treatment for anthrax typically involves antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin or doxycycline.

20. The prognosis for anthrax is generally good with early diagnosis and treatment.

If you suspect that you or someone you know may have been exposed to anthrax, seek medical attention immediately.

There’s no generation of confused men than the one we are in.
They demand respect but can’t lead.

They want submission but can’t love.

They want to be in charge but can’t provide.

They say their women must be traditional but they don’t know anything about our traditions.

Clearly we are in charge now because you have lost your way and your confusion is confusing, so seat down and watch us lead that way nobody gets hurt.

CIPROFLOXACIN (AND OTHER FLOUROQUINOLONES) CAN CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO YOUR BODY....

Ciprofloxacin is a broad spectrum antibiotic, effective in treating a wide range of bacterial infections

However, due to serious harmful effects it can have, it should not be used for infections where other antibiotics are equally effective. It is reserved for severe bacterial infections that do not respond well to other antibiotics, and for serious conditions such as typhoid & anthrax.

Serious harmful effects that have been associated with the use of ciprofloxacin include:

(1) Damage to tendons (tendons are fibrous tissue that connect bone to muscle): Tendons of the shoulders, hands and ankles are usually affected and you will feel pain in these areas. Other areas can also be affected. The tendons may rupture (get torn) resulting in difficulties in moving the affected parts. The patients most susceptible to tendon rupture are the elderly, patients with rheumatoid arthritis & other connective tissue disorders, and patients taking corticosteroids (e.g. prednisolone, dexamethasone)

(2) Weakening of the walls of the aorta: This results in outward bulging of the walls of the aorta (aortic aneurysm). In severe cases, the wall of the aorta gets torn (aortic dissection; a life-threatening condition that can cause sudden death)

(3) Nerve damage: Presents as numbness, tingling, pain, and weakness of arms or legs

Examples of other flouroquinolones: levofloxacin & moxifloxacin

TAKE HOME MESSAGES

》Avoid self-medication with antibiotics

》Avoid flouroquinolones in mild bacterial inections

》Avoid flouroquinolones in pregnancy, lactation, children, patients with epilepsy & patients with certain heart conditions

If you experience symptoms of nerve or tendon damage while taking a flouroquinolone, stop the medication immediately & see your health care provider
