THIS IS A DAVID MANNERS APPRECIATION POST:

Today to mark the kickoff of Pride Month, we celebrate Canadian-born Rauff de Ryther Duan Acklom— better known to us as David Manners— a dedicated actor featured in almost 40 films, but who is best remembered as the young romantic lead in a trio of tentpole Universal films DRACULA, THE MUMMY, and THE BLACK CAT.

Unhappy with the roles he was being assigned, Manners left his lucrative acting career after 1936 to live full-time on his Mojave ranch Rancho Yucca Lima with his partner Bill Mercer. Post-Hollywood, Manners published both fiction and non-fiction books. He lived to be 97, dying in 1998.
