With 5 days left until the election, here are my top 5 priorities for the Yankton County Sheriffs Office:

1. School Safety- Using my extensive background in grant writing, I want to provide additional resources to our schools with a designated SRO and DARE instructor to educate, protect, and build relationships with our youth.

2. Drugs - Using money from the South Dakota Asset Forfeiture Fund, I want to bring a K9 to the YSO to help form a Drug Task Force with other local agencies so we can not only slow drug trafficking but deter other crimes as well.

3. Equipment and Training - Our citizens deserve the best trained deputies possible. We will strive to go above and beyond the required hours so deputies can attend training they see beneficial. I want to outfit the deputies and patrol cars with modern equipment. Our deputies should have modern technology at their fingertips as well as body cameras to promote transparency.

4. Social Media - I promise to utilize social media to inform the public of the activities of the Sheriff’s Office as well as provide information on major events, arrests, press releases and other public safety concerns. We will also promote community involvement from our employees. It is also my goal to modernize the sheriffs office website and post all current inmates.

5. Longevity- I have a young family in Yankton County. I have strong ties to the community, and donate my time in many areas. I am here to stay. I have a long term vision for the Sheriff’s Office and want to help our community thrive for years to come!

“It is fitting and proper that we devote one day each year to paying special tribute to those whose constancy and courage constitute one of the bulwarks guarding the freedom of this nation and the peace of the free world.” - President Dwight Eisenhower.

Veterans Day is set aside to honor the brave men and women who have served. Memorial Day is a special day to pay tribute to those who lost their lives serving. Armed Forces Day is a day set to thank ALL who serve.

Today we recognize members of our Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard and Reserve forces.

Today and every day, we honor their patriotism, their honor, their service and their sacrifice as they took an oath to protect our country.

To everyone who has served, we salute you.

This week is National Nurses Week. As a law enforcement officer, I get to see many of our local health care workers behind the scenes. They care for people who need the best care possible. The nurses in this community provide them with exactly what they need.

Nurses work nights, weekends, holidays. They work long hours, under stressful conditions. Being a nurse takes a special person and I’m so proud to work alongside my family and friends that work this important profession.

Thank you for all you do for our community!

No one knows more about what it takes to be a successful law enforcement leader more than John W. Harris. With over 47 years of law enforcement, John had seen this profession change over the past half decade as he has gone around the country, leaving his mark.

Former Chief of Police for:
-Yankton Police Department, SD
-Pleasant Hill Police Department, MO
-Springfield Police Department, IL
-Evanston Police Department, WY
-Sahuarita Police Department, AZ

John was also the Assistant Chief for the Tucson Police Department in Arizona. He is now a Municipal Judge in Wyoming.

I am proud to receive the endorsement from John W. Harris. A well known Police Chief who is known and respected across the country.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! I wouldn’t be the man I am today without special women in my life such as my mom Janet Crissey and mother-in-law Cheryl Livingston.

A special thanks and appreciation goes to my wife Kim Crissey and mother of our four children. She’s been the rock and foundation while I’ve been out campaigning and greatly appreciate everything she does for us and our family!

06/05/2022

Please take the time to read the endorsement letter from Police Chief Michael Schurch with the Beresford, SD Police Department.

In the past, I've had the pleasure of working part-time in my hometown of Beresford, SD and alongside Chief Schurch when shifts needed to be filled. I'm happy to have so many brothers in blue from across the state of South Dakota!

Thank you!

As the previous School Resource Officer for the Yankton School District, and as a past Vice President for the Bon Homme School District, I would like to say THANK YOU to all the hard working teachers! You all have done such an amazing job and play such an important role for our youth.

I made so many friends, and met so many wonderful people when I was the DARE Officer, SRO and board member over the years.

If elected as your next Sheriff, I would like to continue to build positive relationships between our local schools and law enforcement in Yankton County. My goal is to implement a DARE and School Resource Officer program so we can further grow our communities together.

By having officers in the schools, at athletic events, and involved in the lives of our children, we can help create a better future.

This week, it is National Correctional Officer Appreciate Week. I want to thank not just all correctional officers, but especially the Correctional Officers at the Yankton County Jail.

Correctional Officers are a group of individuals who are integral to our justice system. They are often under appreciated, and rarely placed in the spotlight.

Yankton County is fortunate to have a facilty that is utilized by many surrounding local, state, and federal agencies. This facilty is maintained by local staff day and night. This week, we honor those individuals.

If elected, I have exciting plans for the jail that would provide employees with more training, better equipment, and promotional opportunities that will help you grow in your professional careers.

Thank you all for your service!

01/05/2022

I'm pleased to receive an endorsement from Chief Deputy Maurice Waltner with the Hutchinson County Sheriff's Office. Hutchinson County borders Yankton County to the northwest. Maurice and I have spoken about our visions for our two counties, as we both seek to win our Republican nominations for the office of sheriff. Please take the time to read his endorsement. Thanks!

As your next Sheriff, I promise to hold training in the highest regard. As citizens, you deserve to have deputies that are well-rounded, and proficient in their duties. I cannot insist others train, unless I lead by example.

I pride myself on being a highly trained law enforcement officer. Throughout my career, I have worked to gain the best and highest quality experience possible. I have attained countless training certificates. I have now gone beyond that, and I enjoy training others. I am currently certified to train deputies and officers in RADAR, LIDAR, ALICE, Taser, DARE, DARE Mentor and First Responder Disability Awareness.

As an ALICE instructor, I have worked with the schools and many local businesses to adopt plans and strategies for dealing with the potential of an active shooter on the premises.

As a DARE instructor and a DARE Mentor Instructor, I work hands on with students to combat peer pressure while interacting with them on a personal level. I also now train law enforcement officers on becoming DARE instructors across the state. I believe that strong communities should partner with others to create partnerships that are mutually beneficial. Currently, I am the only certified DARE Mentor in the State of South Dakota.

I want to lead and combine training with local agencies to not only establish strong law enforcement partnerships, but to combine resources and time which will ultimately save taxpayer dollars.

Throughout my career dedicated to training others and making myself the best officer I can be, I have noticed an absence of Yankton County Sheriff’s Deputies at in-person trainings. I wish to change that by again, leading by example. I wish to create a culture of excellence at the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office. It is my vision that our deputies will gain quality experience and are highly trained. It is my goal for those deputies that they may go out and better not only the community, the state or the region, but also better themselves.
