Do it yourself (DIY) efficiently
Our lovely neighbour, who is a builder, offered me all his leftover Resene paint to redecorate our cottage.I did as he suggested and strained it through an old pair of stocking tights as he some of it had been around for more than a while. Then I had great fun mixing part tins together until I had enough to paint each room. I had fun making up my own names for the plausible and surprisingly fashionable results like “dirty merino”.All of it worked out really well except for the kitchen/living room which had a turquoise green coloured carpet. When I painted a sample on the wall it looked as if a heavy smoker had been living in the room for at least the last decade. This colour was definitely “nicotine”. Undaunted I purchased a large can of white mixed that in and “a trace of nicotine” was born. And so it was that no paint was wasted and I painted my walls for the cost of one big tin of paint. If any other greenies are tempted to give this a try be sure to make sample swatches first!
