Are you craving a warm cup of tea on this chilly Chicago night? (or, even if you live someplace warmer) Green tea is known for its role in health and longevity. In holistic medicine, it's immune-supportive properties are used to help people with challenges such as cancer, as well as heart, brain and bone health. While many times people are treated with highly concentrated green tea extract when they have a diagnosed condition such as cancer, it's the daily cup of tea that is perfect for prevention. Green tea has EGCG and polyphenols, which support immunity and help the body repair damaged cells, and theanine, which supports focus and concentration, working with the caffeine for a gentle stimulating effect. Everything we take into our bodies bathes our cells - and this green tea is something good we can do to support our immunity. I love to have mine with agave or local honey but many people have it without sweetener or mixed with another herbal tea (infusion) like jasmine or peppermint. I'll post more in the upcoming weeks about supporting immunity. For now, I am feeling really grateful for the hands that tended and plucked these leaves and all those hands that made it possible for me to enjoy this tonight.
