My first time working with Apex ultra steel, developed in part by and supplied by .at. 5.5 mm was a thick starting point for a kitchen knife but tapers thinly to the tip and the edge. Working with it you can definitely feel the tungsten, vanadium and chrome but I was suprised how though it is. It fell tip first just after glue up into the concrete floor and was just fine.
The Balance is great and it doenst feel heavy at all. Handle in bronze and wonderful Desert iron wood.

Desert ironwood ist just a treat. You don't even have to put in that much work to make it look nice but if you do, oh boy it gets beautiful right quick.
Big blade made from 1.2419.05 steel. 4mm thick and ground basically to zero.
That should sort out my needs in desert ironwood for some time.. Thanks
More of the good stuff..
8 of 8. Stainless kleine Rosen damascus steel and stabilized burl.
3 of 8. Stainless ladder damascus and stabilized burl.
2 of 8. Stainless wild damascus an stabilized burl.
1 of 8. Stainless ladder damascus. Stabilized burl.
There is a story to this set of steak knives. The customer is from Germany and his wife stems from Russia. So this set combines the two origins. The stainless damascus steel is from , from the wonderful state of Hesse. The handle wood stems from a source in the Chelyabinsk area of Russia and is stabilized and dyed.
The knives are held in a velvet lined box, initialed with the customers surname.
I am very happy with how they turned out. The biggest challenge for the costumer will hopefully be picking a favorite. I think I found mine..
The second of the two. Stabilized birch burl, german silver and stabilized beech. They come in a small presentation box.
One of two steak knives in stainless steel. This handle is made from walnut, german silver and stabilized beech.
The "set". That's one that's going to be hard to separate and even harder to give away.
An now with prettier pictures. And a presentation box; black lacquer and gold leaf.
Again with better pictures. The figure on the wood is just way too nice. With that color changing and the nice chatoyance it's really one of the more beautiful pieces I've worked with.
Again, preliminary shots. Carbon flat twist damascus from . Stabilized Koa from (from my "personal" stash of good stuff.) and rosewood as a spacer.
Some preliminary pictures with more to come. Niolox stainless steel blade, octagonal handle made from stabilized curly birch and a small piece of Koa. Still missing the logo.
A quick peek at a knife my brother and I finished recently. It's good to spend time together and I am happy to show him a few things I've picked up over the years. 1.2442 with a hamon, faux ivory and some burl I had lying around.
