The worrisome concern and foresight of our very own PRAI Pres/Chmn Ret Gen Van Luspo regarding our monthly pension and all our benefits therein from the government.

This what will happen to us should any of the Presidential Aspirants who will win in this election and will COPY what the late former president Benigno Aquino Jr was contemplating to implement on our pension.

What a Government?

In his SONA 2013, President Pnoy said, among others:

“Kailangan ng sistemang tutugon sa obligasyon ng lipunan sa ating mga sundalo’t kapulisan; malamang po, GSIS ang hihilingan natin ng tulong para rito. . . Nananawagan po ako sa Kongreso: Pag-aralan po nating muli ang PD 1638 at RA 8551 upang maiangkop sa panahon at sa pambansang pangangailangan ang pensyon at benepisyo ng ating pulis at kasundaluhan."

What does that mean?

We know for a fact GSIS is the government agency that manages the contributions of civilian employees of the government which source the fund to pay their pension when they retire. These civilian employees are the ordinary employees which are not similar to the military and other uniformed personnel (MUP) tasked to secure the sovereignty of our country and to maintain order that the people may live in peace.

But with order of Pnoy, does it not reduce our MUP to being similar to being an ordinary employee?

Do you agree in a government then which treats its military and other uniformed personnel just like ordinary employees and not pay their pension upon retirement yet demand their services, even die, risk their life and limb, for the security the country?

Why should we die for a country whose government is like that?

Patton is better when he said, “The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his.”

It is not the kind of government we saw when we entered the service. It is not the government we signed a contract and sworn our allegiance with and vowed to support and defend, so help us God!

It is with sadness to inform all PRAI Chapters’ officers and members, from the Regional down to the provincial and city/municipal chapters, of the passing of our NPRAI member of the Board of Trustees and the Treasurer of the PRAI Foundation whom I fondly call Sir Toti Manalo this morning. Let us all pray that the Lord Almighty grant him eternal rest. May he rest in peace, we pray!
